try to get to the grotto at night/after dark when its not too crowded...while there please light a candle and pray for all of your IE brethren--we need it! (note: i've driven my car right to the lot next to it on thursday nights--can walk right over to the admin (golden dome) and basilica while your there. to me they have always been special at night while its quiet and peaceful.

unlike others I would avoid legends on game day---big lines, lot of aggravation in there once your inside (i.e. waiting forever for service/drinks/food).

go to the Backer on Friday night (instead of Saturday night) if you have the mrs with you its a total shitshow postgame.

I always grab joyce lot parking passes for game day/tailgates. worth it to me to be in joyce lot on gameday despite the postgame hassle getting out of there. whole lot is going crazy--its great.

we once asked and got into hesburghs office back in the day not sure if still can.

check out joyce if u can you can walk right in and also theres a poor mans book store in there. lots of stuff but not like THE book store. p.s. highly recommend doing book store any day but Saturday!

How much nutritional value is there in the typical food voucher? I know that a reasonable amount of "roughage" is recommended, but paper as a substitute for a hardy Irish Stew ... ???

Zero calories in a food voucher. I'm on a diet, so it works well for me!

my wife bought us tickets for the NC State game for our 5th year anniversary...i have never been to south bend and will be in town thur/fri/sat and leaving sunday..parking i figured for gameday i will have to uber from hotel if i don't have parking pass? other suggestions? will i be able to find parking on friday anywhere to do the typical campus tours? we are visiting the campus thursday and want to go to brian kelly radio show(anyone ever go?), fri- gug, stadium tour, pep rally- sat players walk, drinking and game.....any suggestions about what else....best place for beers on game day if you aren't at a tailgate?

thanks in advance!

Here are some restaurant options that I highly suggest:

Taphouse on The Edge (used to be called Between the Buns) has the best burgers in town. It's right off campus, on 23.

Nick's Patio is your best friend, at 2AM. Fantastic, divey, 24-hour greasy spoon that looks like it's stuck in the past.

Rocco's has the best pizza. I will fight anyone who argues otherwise.

LaSalle Grill is still the best restaurant in town, but I mourn the death of Club LaSalle (upstairs used to be a cigar/martini bar, now it's a gastropub.)

That whole Eddy Street development, was new to me, but it's a nice hangout area. O'Rourke's was a chill place, during the Summer. I imagine it will be crazy on gameday.

Don't even sweat the Friday parking. There is a ton of parking on campus.

Not even the best pizza on that block...my bro lives there and makes a sweet Ginos frozen. Blows Roccos out of the water

Taphouse has NOTHING on The View burgers. Try the Becky.

Oh man. The View... now that’s a freaking dive. Great burgers though. Not exactly a stop for a visitor.

Hell man.. The View is great.....short staffed, greasy bar food and strong cheap drinks. My favorite dive in town. Becoming somewhat of a hipster joint though with the building going on around there...and a way better option than the bars around campus.

Also a huge fan of Jay's Lounge in Niles...but it's not the dive it used to be.

OTiI's fried chicken makes me happy as well.

PA, just a couple of thoughts. I parked on a guys lawn for 20 bucks on the south end of campus this weekend. Straight shot back to 31 after the game. We traditionally grab a pint at O'Rourkes and hit the bookstore across the street. $5 shipping home if you don't want to carry anything around.

yeah, i don't want to have any bad experiences for my 1st time there...no flask for me

Buy a couple shooters at Belmont before the game and put them in your back pocket. I’ve done it for years without ever a single incident. Including this past weekend.

Yes sir. Airplane bottles are the trick. Buy a coke and spike it up. I've taken them in the last 5 years with no issues. Especially if you are wearing a poncho you can put the cup under it and pour in the good stuff.

Also, here is a cool link for game weekend events Just click the add to itinerary button and at the end you can have a nice print off of the events you want to go to and the times they are happening.

Catch a soccer or lacrosse game while you are there if they are having any.

all depends on how well you hide and if people around you have the snitch itch.

but all it takes is one trip to the bathroom pregame to see all the minis laying around to know its rampant in the stadium.

but in all the years ive been going i couldnt begin to tell you how many people ive seen the usher come grab and escort out because someone had to have one more shot mixed in their pop. so yes, they are very serious about it, if they catch you or if someone throws you under the bus.

Fair enough.

My brother brought a friend who snuck in a pint. His group got booted and ND threatened to take away my grandmother's season tickets over it.

Perhaps it depends on the section.

Went to The View during a pub crawl we did. Yeaaah, not really a place I'd suggest to a SB-virgin.

Just touchdown at orourkes

If you want to assume mass quantities of alcohol for a low price, Brothers has their non-gameday deals in place still on Thursday night.

When I was out there last week it was $4 green tea shots, 1 dollar mini bombs, $8 32 oz pitchers of long island, and I think $3 on all draft beers.

This is all accurate. O'Rourkes (where the BK radio show is) is good for beers too. On Thursday and Friday you can park in the garage in Eddy St commons for pretty cheap (first hour is free) as well, but you can find road parking for free.

Legends is a fun place to go to as well, which is right across from Eddy St Commons towards campus.

I'll send you a pm later with some other stuff. Also, give me a shout when you're in town. I work over there and maybe I can sneak away to buy you a beer.

If it’s at the right time, I’d be down to meet up with you guys as well. You still have my number from the group text with Freeman?
