I don't think Les is as bad of a coach to let him go now and pay him 15 million weis bucks.

I think Les is a good coach but has been bridesmaid to Saban for years now. They are turning into a stagnant Georgia.

I'm surprised that Jimbo would consider the job, not saying he is - I don't know. Only reason I would see him leaving is because he wants to be in the SEC.

Word is Jimbo doesn't get along with the admin at FSU.

LSU is a relatively young team this year and has plenty of talent. But I agree. Les hasn't been able to get the most out of that talent recently. His QB situation is inconsistent at best. Worse, his interior linemen are getting owned and that's just not LSU football and I think the combination of those two factors have the Tiger faithful in an uproar.

That would shock the hell out of me. First Syracuse can't afford to take a flier on a young up and comer. Although it looks like he could be a good coach he does not have enough coaching experience to take over at Syracuse. On the other side he would be crazy to take over a team that has been trying to rebuild for a long time. That would be a poor place to start your head coaching resume.

It would not surprise me at all if Syracuse hires him. I'm not saying it is a good thing, but it goes along with the thinking they have had there.

I think AD's and donors have to be uncomfortable with what just happened in Memphis and Houston. By offering $3M a year, they have essentially created a new floor that will only garner additional money grabs by agents. Look at the list and schools below and think what amount of $$$ potential new schools need to dish out to make it worthwhile for the coaches to change jobs and the ripple effect it will have on coaching salaries moving forward (top level assistants too).

Here is a list of coaches that reportedly make less than $3M a year:
Mark Stoops - Kentucky
Todd Graham - ASU
Paul Johnson - GT
Larry Fedora - UNC
Kyle Wittingham - Utah
Paul Chryst - Wisky
Frank Beamer - VT
Pat Narduzzi - PITT
Gary Anderson - OSU

Notable coaches reportedly making $3 - $3.5M per year
Jim Mora - UCLA
Bobby Petrino - UL
Butch Jones - UT
Rich Rod - Zona
Jim McElwain - UF
David Shaw - Stanford

Notable School Openings and the reported pay of coaches that got fired:
Gary Pinkel - $4.1M
Sark - $3.9M
Golden - $2.4M
Paul Rhodes - $2M
Scott Shafer - $1.5M

Well think of this way. At FSU, he shares the state, undoubtedly the second best state after TX for recruits) with two other big name programs in UF and Miami. At LSU, there is just LSU and the people there worship LSU football.

And honestly, Fisher has crap for morals as proven with crablegs but how many headaches come out of FSU with their culture there? And of course, Fisher originated at LSU.

Let's be honest, he's only sharing with UF these days.

Idiotic.

@AdamSchefter: A buyout of LSU coach Les Miles' contract is "a very good possibility," a high-ranking source tells @schadjoe.

This caught me way off guard.

I guess I see both sides of it but I wouldn't give up on him yet. My philosophy is always this: when a guy is still attracting top talent, give him a lot of leeway. If he's won a natty, that helps.

I think either UGA or USC decide to take Les or he ends up at a place like South Carolina. He has been too successful to take anything less than South Carolina, and that might even be insulting to him.

I agree that I think Les deserves a good job with his resume'. I do think his age is going to work against him though. I don't believe South Carolina will hire another 62 year old coach and I can't see GA going that route either.

UGA is not going to have an opening. As to S. Carolina the last two hires have been Holtz and Spurrier so they apparently like older coaches with great resumes.

A. Different AD. The new AD has said he wants some young energy infused into the program.

B. They are tired of getting beaten on the recruiting trail and the number one thing Dabo was selling against USC was the age of the coach and that he was going to retire at any moment(He was right!).

They would be wise to go younger. Definitely agree with that.

I think anything less than an offer from an elite school and Les takes a year or two and does the TV circuit until one opens up.

Just made me think that with Schefter reporting this maybe some inklings of a NFL possibility...?

I think he is too old to do that. If he wants to coach again it will have to be now.

Just looked it up. Didn't realize he is 62, would have guessed mid-late 50's. Even still, he would be 63 at the start of the 2017 season. I don't think it's that far-fetched.

If Les walks, there will be a run on LSU's recruiting class the likes of which we have probably never seen.

Still can't understand why LSU thinks they can do better.

Lets Miles is officially on the hot seat.

He isn't going anywhere just yet. He has a young team and next year will be the year he either gets it done or he gets the heat from the LSU admin.

Nailed it. I knew a few weeks ago.

I can't either. I get that the last few seasons have been frustrating, but firing him will definitely hurt in the short term, and then it may take them several tries to find a guy who can compete for national championships again. Makes no sense.
