How many points did they give up against UM last year? Against Georgia? Was it 40 or 50? Can't recall.
A) Read my post. He has his success the second year.
B) You mean against two CFP teams, one the defending & eventual repeat national champ?

Really weird flex.
Nice try.
Move along.

I think ND needs a pick or near pick really early in the game to make McCord start thinking a bit more. He's coming in confident, need to not let him build on that early.

Other option would be a "harper" type sack/hit where it rattles him a bit as well.

Either way, we gotta let him know, NDs D IS DIFFERENT THAN WHAT YOU'RE USED TO!

Can’t believe y’all let this sit for hours!

Both teams have concerns on the OLine. OSU has bigger concerns-their running attack has not been very good where the Irish rushing attack has been extremely good. Both are concerned about the Dline with many QB pressures but small sack numbers.

Irish stack up well with this team.

QB and RB advantage, Irish.
Secondary advantage, Irish
WR advantage, big time OSU.
Everything else seems rather equal.

Heart and desire will win out.

He left for OSU before that game.

He has a history of turning defenses around everywhere he goes.
Okla St was a scoring machine that couldn’t stop anyone. Then he got there and made them consistently top 20. They suck since he left.
And year 2 is when his defenses take off.
I think they are #1 this season so far.
Dang. Sorry I asked.

Wasn’t Dabo & Urban both WR coach before getting HC gigs?
I'm guessing this is a rhetorical question.

Dabo, Lord Florida, Harbaugh, Coach O and Fleck. Three of them have national championships. None of them were ever a coordinator.

I'd say we're clearly dealing with exceptions versus rules with this group, especially in terms of how some of them came to find jobs in the first place. Hartline seems like a very good recruiter at a powerhouse program, and one where he actually played. He spent some time in the League, which can only benefit, but I don't quite understand the hype outside of recruiting.

I'm pretty sure it was defensive coordinator from Iowa state you are thinking of that we were about to hire but he wanted to bring in his own staff I think Knowles was already locked up

This is where I am at. We also have not won a non-rivalry big game in God knows how long. Clemson with an asterisk, unfortunately. So, while i think we can do it, need to prove that we can.
The last game we played Clemson at home we smoked them right out of the stadium in all three phases. Gave Dabo a terrible beat down. Took any last remaining shred of DJ Us confidence and Bane’d it over a knee which is why he is at Oregon State now.

That happened to Buchner and Pyne

DJ is at oregon state starting, they are 14th in the country, and he's had a really good start. So he clearly has confidence and needed to leave whatever is going on at clemson.

My point to all this, whatever is going on at clemson is not happening at ohio state

He just went 14-30 with 2 INTs against the first opponent with a heart beat...

did he, my bad if that's accurate, i saw his total stats for the season and they're 3-0. Still an improvement vs clemson. Just looked, he did throw for almost 300 on those 14 completions and did have 2 tds on the day.

Not a great day, but still a winning one. I think my main point is valid still, he's playing better than at Clemson

I answered your original post before seeing your follow up where you listed those 2 and others who have done it.

Is that really true? That ND hasn't beaten Ohio State since 1936?! (I just read a Forbes article headline stating this). I know we don't play them that often, but wow, we need a win on Saturday! It would be awesome since other than last year's game, they have been pretty much kicking our butts that last 20 years or so.

Wasn't there a long period where OSU didn't want to schedule ND as to not lose the loyalties of Ohio's catholic population or something?

yes, it’s true. Wood Hayes made it a point not to schedule ND b/c both programs recruited similar blue chip prospects and he didn’t want them getting the upper hand should OSU lose. They finally scheduled a home & home for the 1995 & 1996 season. OSU won both comfortably. This was Holtz’s last two years at ND. They didn’t meet again until the Fiesta Bowl after 2005 season & then again in the Fiesta Bowl after the 2015 season.

South Bend has had several big games over the years, but this one feels different. There’s been a buzz around the whole city, not just campus. Notre Dame Stadium is always great during night games, but I get the sense that it’ll be turned up to a whole new level on Saturday.

Not sure if it has been noted but apparently the crew for the game is Blackledge and Noah Eagle...which I'm all for.
Correct. This is an ND home game which would lead fans to assume Jac & Jason in the booth. To me it’s further proof that the ND broadcast team is simply a “minor league” or “farm system” for the NFL. I believe both Jac & Jason have their sites set on the NFL in terms of broadcasting games. They see this as a stepping stone. NBC knows ND fans will tune in no matter what so put the 3rd rate announcers on the game and let them get seasoning. ND should demand better.

I'm from SB and I've seen it mentioned by a few people I know that agree with you.

If the Irish can win this game I think it would be absolutely massive for rejuvenating this fan base and the program.

I think the crowd is really going to bring it on Saturday night.

With all due respect to Jac, I think he’s closer to calling high school football games in northern Indiana than even sniffing the NFL.

I am seriously considering buying a book, hiding in the basement, recording game, and getting a good nights sleep and then check score sunday AM and watch if we won. I am a heart attack waiting to happen every game I watch and my wife’s out of the country so afraid I may die or stroke out and nobody find me for a few days if I follow my usual watching patterns.

Not sure if it was already stated, but is this game going to be ACC officials?

**Edit - hard to find online, but eventually located the answer on IB Nation Sports Talk - ACC OFFICALS confirmed

I thought at one point the agreement was the opposing team brings their conference officials, but I could be wrong. I hope that's the case cuz the ACC officials are shit.

Smoke some weed
Well i used to back when it was cool now everyone does it and eats gummies and that kinda feels like watching grown ass men vaping some banana berry ass mist. I know what the marlboro man looks like and its not someone hunched over sucking a robot boxes dick and blowing candy mist…oh wait this was about smoking weed … i do digress

I couldn't really think of all of them off the top of my head, but when you cobble that list together, you have three guys who have won National Championships. Then you have Harbaugh, an entity unto himself. Then there is Fleck.

Harbaugh's first job was San Diego. FCS.
Dabo was interim and got the big seat at Clemson.
Orgeron was interim at SC, became interim at LSU and got the big seat at LSU.
Meyer got the BGSU job because they were a mess and no one else wanted it. Lou Holtz flat out told him so. BGSU took a shot and it paid off.
Fleck got WMU in similar fashion. That program was trash and they took a shot. It paid off.

Hartline's path might not be like any of these. Maybe somebody in Power Five just hands him the keys, but that isn't quite the norm. Then again we're not in normal times.

Back to the game. When you look at this ND defense to this point, I think they have enough to slow down Ohio State this year. If CJ Stroud or Justin Fields were QB, I'd feel different, but it's at home and I think they can do enough to limit the ground game and disrupt McCord. But I'm taking the over.
