Love what Finke has done for us in his career.... but ummm yeaaa really wish we had a talent to take over his place. And possibly even more importantly, keeps Finke off the field?

10. Notre Dame (7): Voters will have to really feel strong about what they saw from Notre Dame to drop the Irish behind the likes of Texas and Oregon. I think when it comes to comparing losses -- and yes, it's that team of year where that kind of thing matters for the top 10 -- there isn't a "better" loss than against Georgia in Athens.
Safety was sitting on Finke. He would've been decapitated. Book played well.
Nice neg rep.
I guess so,
because I saw a QB give what he could with what he has
With a QB like Book, you are never going to beat the very good teams. Just wont happen. With a QB that cant throw a deep ball, defenses can play tight.
I don't know what to say about this run game. You can have a 2 star RB and move the ball. The inability to run is on the OL. And I point directly at the OL coach. Move him to recruiter or something because clearly, he cant coach run blocking. He has far superior OL talent to Wisconsin and they run all over everyone. Can we get their OL coach? I mean, who the heck wants to live in Wisconsin???
With a QB that has a wet noodle arm and an OL that cant push Ball State around, you just wont play with the big boys.
Luckily, we have no more big boys this year left on the schedule.
Not really. If Book steps up and fires at Finke as Finke comes out of his break it’s a first down, assuming Finke makes the catch of course.
I think this game helps to confirm that this team/program is very good, but just a top tier QB away from winning games like this as others have said. This is nothing against Book (who plays his heart out) but he’s just not quite enough to beat the elite teams like this without playing a near flawless game and having some serious breaks go his way.

We might just beat a better team then the long-haired kid called Clemson. Or Remember the Titans wanna-be.With a QB like Book, you are never going to beat the very good teams. Just wont happen. With a QB that cant throw a deep ball, defenses can play tight.

lol... some of the comments are hilarious.
We were in a position at the end, on the road, playing a top 5 team, to win. And that was without a RB, and really only one WR of any substance... Yet Book isn't good enough to beat a team like that? Good lord.
No doubt. Give the kid some weapons. He’s basically running the offense w/ one hand tied behind his back.
How many other "elite" programs with semi-realistic CFP hopes would Book start on? Not Alabama, Clemson, UGA, OSU, or OK. Prior to this year he may have started on LSU because they've been QB starved seemingly since the beginning of their program playing football. Florida's been looking for a QB since Tebow graduated so he'd have a shot there. It was nice all week seeing all the usual haters on ESPN and other channels actually give ND a lot of props. Herb, Des, and even Finebaum were complimentary. And the only names they gushed over were Book and Kmet.
No one is saying Book is Joe Montana, but the kid doesn't have a noodle arm (like one of the silly post below says), and he flat out moves the chains. And that says a lot given skill player support he has around him right now. I doubt any of our RBs would start for any of the top 5 or even top 10 teams. I doubt any of our WRs except for Claypool would start. Actually, I think some of the younger guys might start for good teams, but that's a BK thing.

Book is a good QB. He can pretty consistently get your program to 10 wins. On a team like WSU with their scheme he could put some pretty studly numbers and win 9-11 games there but he's not a QB that can shatter the glass ceiling ND finds themselves under. The last play of the UGA game highlights that. He flees the pocket and loses his cool at the first sign of pressure. Stepping up into a collapsing pocket is what separates good from great and if he does that he finds Finke wide open.
What did Finebaum’s stupid ass say?

He is what he is. A nice high end 3-star kid. He's the Brad Johnson of college football. He won't lose games. But he isnt an X-factor in any way. And Notre Dame needs one at that position if we want to win.
Exhausted reading continuously about Ian's limitations. It's just my opinion, and therefore worth less than a fart in the wind, but for me Ian Book has it in him (WITH PROPER RB and WR help which he does not have) to win ANY game.
There are more things to elite Quarterbacking than running around like Michael Vick. And Book is quite dangerous even at that. Book's ONLY true limitation in my view is that his height makes him want to slide in the pocket even when the pocket is secure as is. Kelly said exactly that a couple of days ago. Fortunately he has great feet and smooth instincts for this.
We COULD fix that too, by having Patterson and Banks grow better into their jobs --- which, given our pass-only offense limitation vs Georgia and THEIR elite athletes, was still pretty good. Georgia KNEW we were going to pass. We still did it pretty well against all odds. It was no accident that commentators praised Book after the game.
1. No explosive big-play RB
2. No hard-hitting in the holes RB
3. No real take-the-top-off proper route running receiver
4. Twitchy Left Tackle
5. Rookie Center
6. High ceiling but not-quite-getting it Left Guard
How about fixing THOSE things before calling out Book for being not good enough? Book/Long have truly solid performers in Claypool, Kmet, Kraemer, and Hainsey --- and Finke/Keys in slot. That's only HALF an offense to count on being high end good.
Fix the Left side of the line (very possible --- we have the necessary studs), the RB position (PLEASE!!!) and one really dangerous receiver (I keep hearing about "X" "Y" "Z"; well get their butts on the field if they're good), and then see what Ian can do with those cards dealt to him. This is NOT Ian Book's fault.
Yes. The REAL stick-out bad one was a first quarter WR sweep/reverse (I believe) with Avery running it. Kraemer and Hainsey were out there in front angrily looking for work and making a ferocious moving wall, but Banks, who was also theoretically in position, paused and actually turned as if looking back to see what was happening, and the Georgia defender ran by him to stop the play WAY prematurely. This pushed us off the field. Kelly went right to him and had a jawboning.
They might honestly not be that good. Their offense is quite self-destructive. I'm a little worried about ND having now watched Georgia play uneven at times since our game with them, and watching UVA's offense stink up the joint. I'm not sure our defense is as good as we think it is, and we all know the offense has flaws.
