Actually, Koyack had a nice block on the TD that McDaniel took in. Did a good job of kicking the linebacker out. Niklas absolutely destroyed a couple guys on that same play. Needs consistency.

I guess I missed that one. Consistency would be great. It would help in providing the same with our run game.

ND should just do as Stanford do and bring in a 6th OL to Block with Troy in the TE2 spot. Somebody gotta find out what the deal with Welch is though, hes on Field Goal but MIA on Offense.

I know they had a week off, but Boomer looked much better throwing the ball to weeks ago with Bell. Giving them the extra week to prepare doesn't bode well for us either. What worries me is that we're going to have to score to win this game and i simply do not see that being the case.

sorry for being debby downer Philly

imo we're going to have to play outstanding defensively and Brindza will have to be outstanding again punting the ball to give us a chance.

difference with that though is they usually have a fullback in there as well, so it really turns into no secret that we're running the ball. Plus they have a decent athlete at QB that can play action boot and let's face it....we don't have that guy.

Really dont understand why BK can't recruit 2 preffered walk-on fullbacks or so. They cant be that hard to find can they?

I think we use the same gameplan as we had against MSU personally. We are going to push it vertically all game long and hope it forces them into some man coverage and out of the box to run the ball. Difference this week is Tommy is actually going to hit a few.

As we all know he didn't hit many last week but he was consistently overthrowing (when have you ever said that about him). It wasn't sporadic misses. Another week of timing work and I believe he will drop a few in.

Does that equate to more points? Not sure, but I think it at least will help us flip field position and keep the ball away from their offense.

I can see this one going either way personally.

Yeah, I was just curious from a ND fan's perspective, where it ranked on your list. Mainly was trying to gauge your guys' thoughts to see how amped up the atmosphere will be. Great stadiums are always good - but it's better for certain teams/games. I was curious if this is one of the bigger (biggest?) home game of the year for ya'll or was just a so-so whatever game.

I get all the coach speak - one game at a time, yadda yadda - but I'm not sure you can not look forward to certain games over others as a fan.

Everyone is excited about OU coming to town. As mentioned, one of the storied programs in college football, so you'll get an amped up atmosphere. There's just so much hate and history with USC that whether they are win-less or undefeated they are always the biggest game of the year.

I don't see them doing green jersey's. This rumor pops up every year. Besides, if you're going to use them as a motivation factor, you do it like Lou did. The team had no idea they were going to wear green. They warmed up in the traditional blue and when they went into the locker room for the last words from Holtz, they found the green jerseys hanging in their lockers and changed right before coming out for kickoff.

I've been under the impression all these years that you don't pass on a team to force the man coverage, teams switch to Cover 3 or something if that's the case.

Michigan State was loading the box and offering the man coverage up as part of their game plan.

I doubt that Oklahoma has the defensive ability that Michigan State had. I think it'll come down to third down execution for both sides.

I agree. While I would like to see some new wrinkles, we've seen the same offense for three weeks. The only real change I noticed was the jet sweep motion was put back in against MSU and it had a positive outcome.

but the crossing routes were abandoned which was frustrating to see. ND was crying out for a slot receiver with speed to make that Defense pay for leaving a LB or SS in man on that threat all day.

How do OK's DBs compare to MSU's? Are they capable of playing us as physical as MSU? You know they will be physical with DD since he was largely shut down. Better a 15 yard penalty than a 40 yard pass, right?

I think the physicality threw us off our timing and I think other teams will try the same thing, gambling that refs won't throw that many flags (even when the fouls are there).

Bogs made a good point elsewhere about Tommy pretty much NEVER taking the underneath routes, even when more open than the long throws. I like to think BK and Co. understand the 3 & out frequency needs to be high on the list of things to fix.

I agree and especially in away games when the home crowd will get on the backs of the refs. Let's hope they will be brave and make the right calls!

Well I think you know more about football than you are leading on...TE's are nearly impossible to cover. LB's can't keep up with them, DB's aren't physical enough, and TE's can usually catch the ball with you doing chin-ups on their arms. This should all happen in the middle third of the field. Not sure why we aren't looking there. But I agree...we need that second TE to emerge.

This is what I was thinking while watching the MSU game. The deep ball wasn't working too well (tight coverage, Tommy over-throwing). Was there something that the MSU defense was doing to make the short pass game a non-starter? I didn't see any 6'7" MSU linebackers that could challenge Niklas for jump balls. Can some of you X&O experts shed some light on why the Irish aren't trying to chip away with short, quick pass plays? To me, it's like they aren't even trying to do it. It's either WR screens or deep shots; nothing in between.

I doubt that Oklahoma has the defensive ability that Michigan State had. I think it'll come down to third down execution for both sides.

zone coverages are usually used to stop the run at least on the teams I have played for. I believe this to be similar to ND's defense last year. You have to hit the vertical routes against the zone as well as sit in the holes on the third down conversions to get them out of it.

once they go man its hard to stack the box (formation dependent obviously) and create the running lanes.

Some teams will choose to run right at you (standford) in order to create the passing game (play action, roll out). I don't think we are anywhere close to being that kind of offense.

I don't have any clue what Ok likes to do as far as bringing pressure, zone/man. But i feel that since we arent built like a stanford offense we have to go about it the other way and outside of what 6-7 plays all year we havent hit and the running lanes havent been created (oline has its own issues but not what we are discussing).

this is all in my opinion which is worth about as much as my vbank account.

Sooner Report: Countdown to Notre Dame - Oklahoma Sooners

Stoops praised the MSU pass defense. Look for them to rough up our WRs right? I think Davaris will come in p!ssed and have a big game. Also think Corey earned some more targets and will make the most of it.

No secret, make Rees pass a lot and you have a better chance of winning. Then again, you can say that of most teams.

Apparently they're trying to have a green-out in the stadium. No way it works haha. Would be cool to see though. If they can't do it in the JACC for a basketball game where they hand out free shirts to everyone, no way it'll work in the stadium.

"the shirt" is green so that will certainly help. should be in 70s saturday so you wont have what i call the "coat effect". stadium should have quite a bit of green.

Reading some more articles there and I'm definitely amped to watch this game on saturday. Everything out of OU so far this week has been very classy and I know ND fans were treated very well in Norman last year. Its match ups against great programs and great fans like this which will make ND and its fans forget about Scum very very quickly after next year.

What I have read, Oklahoma fans treat big non-conference games as a craps shoot. They don't have delusions of BCS Championships this year so the real goal is winning the conference. Win or lose, this game prepares them for the conference slate and is a nice novelty to boot.

Maybe that mentality is why they are 1-9 all time vs. ND?
