Mentored Kansas State cornerback Terence Newman, who was a consensus All-American in 2002 and recipient of the Jim Thorpe Award
Helped Newman capture the 2002 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and become the fifth overall selection in the 2003 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys
Oversaw a defense in his second season at Kansas State that ranked sixth nationally in total defense (283.1 yards per game), seventh in pass defense (174.6), eighth in scoring defense (16.3 points) and 17th in rushing defense (108.8 yards)
Served as the Iowa State associate head coach, secondary coach and special teams coordinator from 2000-01
Member of the Iowa athletics department for 13 years (1987-99), including 11 years as anassistant coach (1987-94, 1996-98)
