I think this will end up speaking to the talent of Duke-ee and Northwestern.

We can't be concerned with the things we can't control.

Duke is one of those programs that's far above average currently but bc their name is historically bad they still get little respect...

Yeah, they're not good.

Now 2-3 after blowing a 21-0 lead and losing 38-31 to North Carolina.

This is so great for Paul Johnson's ego. He's still trying to get VanGorder's bag off his chin. I credit BVG and Elliott for his team's demise.

The good news is that hopefully they will fire Paul Johnson will get fired and we won't have to worry about facing the triple two times in one year anymore

OR, we hire Paul Johnson and run the triple option ourselves.

Either way we only gotta play against it once

I'd be down with that. The beauty is in the simplicity and the repetition/execution. The Triple Option could be a great offense for our student athletes to run again given the class loads and what not. Keep the playbook smaller and work on the execution, while destroying everyone else's knees instead of our own.

Gotta love Paul Johnson screaming to get away from the ball after the blocked FG...what a biatch. And what a wonderful turn of events for the Irish!

I have a completely speculative opinion about GT. GT was pretty good but needed a little time to get the rookie skill positions [other than the excellent QB] in full flowing synchronization with the spontaneity aspects of the Johnson system.

Then along comes Bobby Elliot with his weeks long scouted scheme to stop them. And we stuff them [other than the two gimme off-pattern passes to the fullback very late in the game.] Elliot's "film" gives everybody else the method to ruin the GT offense --- plus, and I think that this is underrated on IE, playing ND is no treat, and we beat up our opponents for four quarters no matter whether we fans see that clearly or not.

Result: GT is really up against it for three weeks before Johnson and his team can adjust and begin to feel good about themselves.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're very threatening from here on out.

Great finish to the FSU game. Coupled with USC upset of Utah, Irish should be climbing in polls even though idle.
Key now is to play one game at a time, and win out. Baylor/OK will result in a loss for one of them (hopefully Baylor), and UM could take down Bucks.
Winning out = playoff

Starting WR just up and left the team.

Said he didn't want to play football anymore.

yikes

Michael Summers has left the team, according to coach Paul Johnson. "Just said he didn't want to play anymore," Johnson said Monday. Summers started 7 of 9 games this season and was second on the team in receptions with 12.

Probably doesn't want to play because they never throw the ball.

Frickin GTECH - win a damn game.

And the quote of the GT fan convinced they would beat the Irish, (with the logic lowdown of all time!) runs through my head, "Because GT is just a better football team!"

I believe that GT ran into a perfect storm of problems this year.

A). had to play us early with Bobby Elliot planning against them for several months, and it worked;
B). we physically hurt them;
C). we gave others the game plan against them;
D). they had SEVEN of their A-Backs hurt during the season;
E). just when they seem to be getting it back together, they run into Bud Foster. "Foster will figure it out", my brother says. He did. NO offensive points after the first quarter. Even the QB got banged up.

Sad for ND but things happen. A perspective we need to keep better in mind about our own team.
