Plus I REALLY wish we'd get Navy off the schedule. tired of being banged up after playing them now couple that with playing a bigger and more athletic triple option team is just begging for more devastating injuries.

How many times are you going to post this same worn out argument? We aren't going to take them off of the schedule and we have debated this (including you) a million times.

You get stuck on something and post it a billion times until someone reacts. It's annoying.

Thank you for reacting. Didn't think it was that big of a deal. Sorry you are having a bad day.

I would be having a lot better day if I didn't have to re-read the same post over and over from you.

Especially about removing Navy from our schedule.

What's the beef dude? Really you want to start arguing over this? Let's be civil here. If that's big of a deal I will try to refrain from repeating myself, but try to learn to relax.

Why would you make the switch, Sherm? IMO, Onwualu has played really well so far.

Martini more of a run stuffer than Onwualu maybe, and didn't Martini play quite a bit, and well in Navy game last year?

What game was it that Martini came in for Morgan and played really well? Was that Navy? I can't remember.

I'm thinking he came in for him during Northwestern, but I'm probably wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

Was it against L'ville when Morgan was ejected for targeting?

Onwualu isn't exactly a slouch against the run and I think he's played great so far (and before the season started, I thought Martini would push him for time). Right now, he's just playing too well to bench.

And he's really exactly what you want against the option. A smart, disciplined player who is a sure tackler and hustles to the ball.

Think we'll see Rochell inside and Day at DE? Maybe hang Jaylon outside of him and play them both on the wide side to encourage things to the short side of the field?

Yes, thanks.

I do agree that Onwualu has played pretty well and would be disappointed if he isn't given the chance in proving himself worthy of playing against Navy.

That's a good idea. Rochell and Cage on the inside is a lot of beef.

pkt, I'm guessing we'll play a 1 deep safety, so you might just get your wish.

I think you'll see that in effect because Shumate/Tranquill will almost certainly be in the box.

That may be a little dangerous as Thomas is a better passer than what Ga tech has had in the past. Them CBs better be on their game if you load the box.

Even with Thomas being a pretty good passer, I really think we should go man on man with our corners with Redfield as the only deep help. I would rather get beat a couple times deep than give up 5 yards a play all day to the triple option.

I agree that its dangerous but its what works. VT has had very good success, relative to others, against the GT over the last few years and this is precisely what they do quite a bit of. A lot hinges on the CB's playing well but thats what KVR and Luke are here for. Time to earn your keep. After last week its easy to lack confidence in those two plus Redfield but not sure I like the other options better. Maybe start the game with some more conservative calls and if you aren't having success then start to bring the S's into the box.

If the Irish can win the battles up front at the point of contact then it makes it easier for the DBs and deep safety. Va Tech has had their success in large part due to just that. Let's hope the Irish wins way more of those battles than they lose. And who knows... maybe this is the game the secondary steps up big time and locks them Ga Tech receivers down. I don't think Ga Tech has great WRs so that should help out.

The bigger issue, IMO, is how disciplined the safeties play. Tech will make us pay if our safeties start moving forward before their QB crosses the line of scrimmage. If they are disciplined enough to wait for the QB and then come up in run support, Tech will have a tough time hurting us with their pass game. If Shumate or Redfield start head hunting the pitch, they're going to light us up over the top.

Stop the dive
Play disciplined and read your keys
Force turnovers...strip and score

I really want to see us play a 4-4 defense against an option team.

Our scheme in the past has had safeties/corners very involved on the pitch idk if that will be an adjustment.

staff will have to decide who's more dangerous the FB or QB b/c that's usually who you have two or three guys on in the triple. if it's a good QB I always found it risky to only have one guy responsible for the QB.

bottom line is we have to win 1st down. anything 3rd and 3 or less is a win for GT.

we'll need to put them in a lot of 2 and 8's to control the game.....much easier said than done.
