I always try to tune in to Kelly's body language and tone to get a feel or speculate how the week is going etc.

This week I would say Kelly is not having fun at all.

What a stupid question.. I swear some reporters just ask a question so they can tell their editor that they did... How do you want Kelly to answer that

"No, he was horrible in practice" or coach speak "Yeah we saw it in him but it was his job to bring that to the game"

I think the media guys were asking stupid ass questions and kissing MSU's ass because of their physicality. It just seemed like that was the only thing about MSU that they cared about and he was getting annoyed.

Please let Jay Hayes and Coney play in lieu of Trumbetti and Martini this week with it being a physical team. I'll be happy if they make one of the changes, but I think it's obvious they're better against the run. Jay Hayes I can't say much about other than he's healthy, but Trumbetti just cannot get off of a block on a run play. I really hope the coaches are seeing this.

Very young team. He said that they usually just go over it on tape, but wanted to actually go over the mistakes this time. I'm a fan of it

Yeah, I was moreso curious why this was the first time this happened, especially given the massive amounts of defensive confusion we've complained about in the BvG era. Perhaps BK is trying to take the teaching / coaching into his own hands, which I'm a fan of.

It was offense, not defense

Have we seen any of Jay Hayes to have a reason to believe he is some savior to our Dline play?

No, but I've seen enough of Trumbetti against Texas' run game to realize he's the 2016 Joe Schmidt on rush defense. I'll take the field against what I've seen from him.

And Hayes was noticeably better than Trumbetti all spring/fall, so if he's healthy (which he must be since he's taking snaps), what are they waiting for against another run team...

I'm not sure that anyone is saying he's the savior of our DL. Big difference between that and hoping that he plays to improve our run defense.

Kelly noted in fall camp that he is really good at the point of attack, which is important in the run game. Against a run heavy team in MSU, that becomes more important.

This. At this point he's a good athlete for his size but not a football player or at least one that I think should be starting on a top 15 football team. At times he makes a nice move off the ball and then just seems to flail his body towards the ball carrier or blocker.

I'd go into this game with the idea that we'll play Cage, Rochell, and Jones at the same time. With a rotation of Bonner (thought he looked pretty good against Nevada), Hayes, Trumbetti, Tillery, and D. Hayes at various times given down and distance.

its def NOT what we have seen from Hayes but ENOUGH of trumbetti that he has just regressed completely...in freshman campaign he had a burst...each year he has gotten slower, and non existent except i think last year's pitt game when he had a sack(memory could be cloudy)....

he is getting eaten alive by blockers, unable to shed and when the film has been broken down he is even taking himself completely out of the play...same thing has been happening to martini...quite sad actually especially for upperclass to be regressing

OMG this is what i keep yelling at my tv about....he is in a position to make a stop and almost takes himself out of the play but then dives at the legs and they just run through the arm tackle attempt

Literally the word Flail comes to mind (such a weird word, lol), most times I watch him try and make a football move, like a tackle. He's in position because he is such a gifted athlete but doesn't seem to want to actually hit folks.

Not going to make this call yet as he's just a sophomore and another year in the weight room, gaining confidence might help. However, it has crossed my mind that he might've been better off at OT.

Just checked the depth Chart for week 3 on 247...and Coney is listed as the starter at WLB. I too like this...a lot. Trumbetti is still the starter at WDE but both Hayes' listed as back-ups

If only he wanted to hit swoopes in the backfield in 2ot instead of exploding into the backfield and waving :(

I think Coney has probably supplanted Martini full-time, with the possible exception of the triple option teams.

Wonder how much of this is on Gilmore.

Me too. I can't say I have a strong opinion about it one way or the other at this time. But I think we at least have to consider the possibility that its not the match we thought it was.

I've always been of the mindset that coaching college kids is just as much about getting them emotionally prepared as physically. Therefore, good motivation can play a big role in performance. If he can get them up to the task this week, it'd go a long way in helping his case.

Think it has more to do with the scheme change under BVG. He was recruited to play CAT in Bobby D's defense and just doesn't do seem to fit the attacking scheme as a DE.

EDIT: Now I realize you were probably referring to Tillery. Personally, I just think he's soft.
