I think it's only a matter of time unfortunately(and not much time) before Kiel passes Hendrix. It's going to happen quickly. Hopefully, Kiel passes Rees too.

He's already passed Rees. You and I have passed Rees.

My thoughts:

No team in the nation with a defense as good as ND will ever play Navy.

The first time in at least ten seasons, the second team scored, (twice).
I believe, before the last long run, Navy had less yards rushing in a game since 2007. They have played the likes of South Carolina, and Oklahoma since then. I think we can say our run defense is going to be up to par.

The secondary worries me a little, and the PAT team shiit the bed, but other than that we looked excellent in every facet of the game. The front seven was ferocious, and Manti Te'o played like a man possessed today. I think it's going to be a fun season.

It's a lot easier to fix a PAT problem than it is to fix a rezone turnover problem

Does anyone else think we should start every season against Navy? It gives us extra time to prepare for the option, it lets us establish our running game early due to the size advantage we have with linemen, and with the extra running it's a good game to break in new QBs. Thought?

Haven't seen Brown in. I was hoping to see him a bit too.

Brown played a couple series in the first half but I didn't really see he in the second half too much.

Thought Cam looked great, some serious cutting ability and great balance/strength.

Let us see you cover better when your defense is in a 4-2, with at least 8 in the box and option being all you are prepped for. The adjustment was fast and they remaind shut down after that drive. And they went to long cleats and tore divots up on a five week old field. No excuses, but this sure was a tough venue for speed.

Gig'em.

They would us.

If we didn't need the backup reps, I still say blow their *** out.

Yes, and have Michigan open against Bama.

Being stuck in a television-less and internet-almost-less apartment in Wheeling, I didn't have the pleasure nor the perspective on the game as you guys did, but... I find it difficult not to be extremely pleased with the start. Last year Navy scored 21 points or more against every team on their schedule [except us] --- three mighty cheers for Coach Diaco. Last year only one team [except us] scored more points against them --- at least two-and-a-half cheers for Coach Kelly. We pushed them around and have not always done so. Three cheers for both lines. We got turnovers and never did so recently. Three cheers for the front seven.

Golson wasn't brilliant, but he was good. The runners were good. Cam McDaniel proved that he is a player. Tyler Eifert is a defensive nightmare, even though we didn't go there as effectively as we should have.

As to the DBs --- we'll see. Diaco said to himself: Navy cannot beat you if you stack up their run game. He loaded up against it and stopped it. Diaco said to himself: Navy cannot beat us with its passing game if I have our guys play conservatively and give up no big plays. That happened. Diaco said to himself: Navy's offense stops itself with negative plays if you force it to go long fields. It did. Sounds to me that the defense did just what Coach wanted it to.

Quite happy.....

To the people who suggest taking a knee instead of running a rushing play.... most real ball players that I know consider the opponent taking a knee as an insult. A passing bomb or an extra field goal is different.

I was just saying that after today's game really the only part of the team I don't have full confidence is the secondary. I'm not worried yet, because I understand the focus of the D was on Navy's option rather than their passing attack, but I think it's also hard to watch this game and, at the moment, be confident that the pass D can shut down or even limit QBs like Matt Barkley and Landry Jones. I understand that the pass D will get better, especially as Russell gains game experience, but I was simply making the observation that the secondary was one of the few negatives today.

Looking at PU and then MSU, i think we can contain purdue and stop Bell. From the MSU-BSU game it seemed like Bell was their only real weapon, if we can stop him we can shut down their offense

Don't look too deeply into this though. It's true that ND will do better against Bell than BSU as long as they are healthy but BSU almost certainly has a better pass d than ND does right now. What's going to be key is whether they can cover the TEs like Sims who is a talent. If they can do that, they should be solid. MSU's D also looks very solid at stopping the run, BSU did nothing against them all game offensively.

Anyone know what they will do with the game balls from today? I really like the shamrock with the flag of Ireland in them. Any chance they will be for sale or auction anywhere?

Just home from Dublin. What a wonderful day!!!! Sunshine in Ireland. Band in Temple Bar at 10.30am. Great atmosphere at ground and a win without too much anxiety and stress,

Great O-line performance.

Running backs show great depth - even down to Cam.

Koyak needs to catch easy balls.

WRs didn't show me anything really. Good to see Brown Neal and Ferguson on the field but would have seen more thrown to them in final quater.

Front 7 really good. Secondary the worry we thought they might be.

The one disappointment of the day was no licienced ND clothing available to buy anywhere in Dublin. Some sales and marketing man messed up badly.

One game ball went to the OLine and One to the DLine I read. No idea about the rest.

Riverdance it ain't. Hell, it ain't even the dance what wannabe Irishters in the states think of as an Irish Jig or step dancing. It's more like what like what I might do after a wee bit of Guinness and Jameson.

I'm just glad that he didn't run.

Alabama did just that last night against much better athletes, and did it extremely well. Obviously we're not Alabama, but just saying, it can be done.

The secondary is a concern, there's no doubt about it. Extremely thin, 2 DBs with not a lot of experience, a freshman starter, and they got beat a lot in the air against subpar athletes (yes, they were on islands a lot, but they still got beat by guys that aren't even 1/10th the athletes that USC and OK will bring).

Hopefully they'll continue to get better...

Two things I want for my collection - the helmet in your avatar and that shamrock football, hopefully they'll have them through the bookstore soon.
