Overall happy w performance....Russell slipped jamming receiver and almost got back to him....rather him b physical and get the gametime now b4 we get some seasoned qbs and wrs.....we r getting pressure but not wrapping um up in backfield...

But our secondary looks bad. I understand what Diaco had planned for today....but come on. The front 7, while great, can't bail you out the whole time

Better get it fixed. Because there are some teams on our schedule that are licking their chops.

So like in a week then? Not panicking but definitely worried about pass coverage. If I am clinching every time Miller throws I don't know what I will be doing when we play an actual QB.

I am not worried about our db's; I think today's performance is first of all about the coaches telling them to play off, and more importantly the field turf. I don't think we have the turf solution. If we get it, we should install it in our stadium for an edge!

Observations

*Kelly/Martin are playing to our strength: Good offensive line, good stable of backs with little dropoff.
*Daniels is going to be good.
*It's been a long time since we've had a "take it to the house" tailback like GA3.
*Golson is accurate and can extend plays. He will experience some growing pains.
*I would be surprised if we don't have a roll out package for Golson at the goal line that we won't show in weeks 1 and 2.
*Our front 7 is good, though I wish we had some more depth with our down linemen.
*We will need a speed rusher against MSU/OU/USC. Does Prince have what it takes?
*Motta is slow. Every passing team will pick on him.
*I expect that our corners won't be doing a lot of press coverage this year. We will give up some long, frustrating drives to good passing teams.
* Eifert will catch fewer passes, but its nice to have him as an option in clutch situations.
* I expect Neal to play more and more as the season progresses. We need more speed on the outside at WR. The key for him will be his ability to block.

They're basically giving them the short passing game. Not a big deal. The one deep ball Russel slipped. We look way better than Stanford or Michigan State did in their openers in my opinion. Any trivia buffs know when was the last time a ND D lineman took one to the house?

I agree with all of this. Especially concerned about Motta. I think that Russell can improve but I'm not sure how much better Motta is going to get

Wow...O line looks pretty good. GA III and theo....very nice. Receivers are ok...DD made me want to kick him...but it could have been confusion. EG...I could have accepted an int. mid field...the one thing Kelly stressed, decisions down there...he blew it. Otherwise he looks very good.

D line looks nice...Dbacks...given how they've been told to play...I really can't say much. Manti looks active...seems a little quicker even for Manti. I hope Diaco lets Dbacks play straight up in the 2nd half so we can see something of them.

Purdue is going to chuck it A BUNCH no matter what because of our front...so if the dbacks don't shine in this game...it isn't all bad...wasn't going to change much...and maybe it will serve as a little self-eval fodder to raise theirt game...again, lets see them play straight up though, and not in a "mental" prevent.
