I'm surprised anyone would head to A&M at this venture. Sumlin seems like he's on the hot seat with the way they've struggled the last few years, and their starting QBs are even bailing.

Tennessee football coach in trouble or no? will butch jones get fired?

Should and will are probably two VERY different things. If Jones really called the player who helped the assault victim a traitor, then he absolutely should be fired immediately. Given UT's apparent efforts to sweep it all under the rug and circle the wagons, I don't expect it to happen though. Any coach who covers for players who assault women and doesn't immediately kick them off the team has no business in the profession. If Saban did something like this, I'd want him gone yesterday.

Will be interesting going forward. From what I have read, it appears the player's grand jury testimony in 2015 isn't matching his affidavit filed in the sexual assault suit. Nonetheless, if Jones did indeed call him a traitor, then the school will be under tremendous pressure to cut ties with him. Actually doing it may be something completely different however.

Wow... this could be bad for Butch Jones.... real bad....

Drae Bowles, the lawsuit says, saw Jane Doe IV in November 2014 crying in a parking lot and drove her to a dorm. While in the car, the woman called 911 to report an allegation of rape, and an ambulance picked her up at the residence hall.

The next day, a teammate allegedly confronted Bowles in the locker room about the report of rape. When Bowles explained what happened, the other player punched Bowles in the mouth, accusing him of not supporting the player being accused of rape, the complaint claims. A fight ensued.

According to the complaint, Bowles then called the coach to tell him what happened.

Not surprising. The article I linked above was on the front page of CNN. If true, you cant have a coach that allowed his players to attack a player for defending a rape victim. Then telling that player that he betrayed his teammates by addressing that one of them was a rapist.

What gets me is the whole dog and pony show UT just did regarding the long list of rapes on campus the other day. Then they fire one of the coaches on the panel days later? Pathetic.

Edit - Not real, Panda? Well... he should be fired.

Mother's financial woes a motivator in Peyton Barber's decision to leave Auburn for NFL Draft

Barber's mother isn't necessarily homeless, though the living situation -- five people crammed in a small apartment -- is not ideal. Like most mothers, Lori Barber does not complain.

"Homelessness is a strong definition," Lori Barber said. "Do I have a home of my own? I do not. Do I have a bed of my own? I don't. Where we're living is a little crowded, but we're making it work. We're taking our 50 cents and stretching it out to make it a dollar."

While battling ADHD, Peyton Barber maintained 100 percent attendance at school and was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll at Auburn University three times. These are the stories fans don't see on the football field.

Kudos to any school who helps kids get an education and work their way out of situations like these.

Summary of other Alabama coaching moves:
Alabama replaced Kirby Smart (DC) with former Georgia DC, Jeremy Pruitt. Mario Cristobal is now their recruiting coordinator and will coach OTs and TEs. Bobby Williams (TE coach), who's worked with Saban since Michigan State, moved to off-the-field position. Brent Key (UCF's head coach in waiting) will coach the interior linemen. Derrick Ansley, recently promoted to Kentucky's co-DC in January, was hired away to become Bama's DB coach. (Rumors were that Kirby Smart wanted to hire him at Georgia.)

Most had ties to Alabama. Jeremy Pruitt was their DB coach from 2010-12. Brent Key is a native of Trussville, Alabama. Derrick Ansley grew up in Alabama and was a defensive graduate assistant coach with Alabama in 2010-11.

When UCF did not hire Key as their new HC, UCF paid out $700,000 to him since he had been their "head coach in waiting".

SEC--best conference (it should be as its semi pro mercenary football with guys on campus to win football games only) SEC-- best conference for co operation from administration to get guys on campus to win those football games and keep them eligible SEC--conference with a fan base that could not care at all about what the rest of the country thinks about its 'student athletes' and how they win those games as they are just concerned about propping up southern culture--of course this is just my opinion and I'm sure all the southern football fans that use this forum to pound their chests will have a lot to say about my take but I don't really care. You should have the best teams, you should have the best conference, you do have a fine winning record the last 10-15 years and if college football stays in its present condition the sec will flourish. Long live win at all cost college football. Enjoy it boys you've earned it.

Got to hang with Josh Dobbs's (Tenn QB)father yesterday. We were in a meeting with several Wells Fargo execs (he's VP of something at WF) who are trying to win our business.

They invited me to a Boy Scout event that WF is sponsoring at the CFB hall of fame that is honoring several folks including Josh (he's an Aerospace Engineer Major), Dikembe Mutombo, and others.

I knew Josh was a smart kid, but Aerospace Engineering.... good lord. Just thought I'd drop this here since most of the time we are digging on the SEC for academics...

I seen a piece on him on the SEC Network about what he was involved in with Aerospace Engineering. Pretty impressive stuff. Kudos to Josh.

Yeah, very impressed with Dobbs. AE is a major that is extremely challenging without any extracurriculars for very smart people, and to do it with football is no mean feat. Every now and then, you see a kid shine brightly in a place where most kids don't. Craig Krenzel at OSU, Myron Rolle at FSU, and Barrett Jones at Alabama come to mind as similar poster children for programs that routinely land more football players in jail than in high-paying jobs. Kudos to such guys for really taking advantage of their opportunities in life.

As usual, your comments precede you. There are several scholar athletes in the SEC each year and the list of names would probably surprise you. But then again, the Minnesota Gophers have had several scholar athletes - primarily during Clem Haskins tenure as basketball coach there. Enjoy.
