I still scratch my head when I read through all these articles on the coaching search... (My family drives me to follow most things UT/OU, so I’m really interested in this one…)… Just about every article has a line like this in the opening paragraph: “Saban is off the board, he just signed an extension”… Okay, fine,… then you go down the ‘valid list’ of candidates, and easily half of them have also just recently signed extensions… lol… Am I just really missing something here???

Heard them discussing the same thing on Jay Moore sports yesterday. He was questioning why several potential candidates on the rumor list were still listed even though they had just signed extensions. He then asked why Saban wasn't on the list, especially since his contract doesn't have a buyout clause.

No reason was given for the suspensions.

Dickson, the Tide’s alternate “jack” linebacker, has appeared in 10 games this season with 2.0 tackles for a loss.

Kamara, a true freshman, has not seen this year and was expected to redshirt. He was sidelined for multiple weeks near the end of preseason camp after undergoing a knee scope.

Kamara was not with the team during practice leading up to the Tide’s game against LSU game on Nov. 9 for “behavioral reasons,” but Nick Saban said at that time he was optimistic that Kamara would return and could see action this season.

Things don’t look as good now, and the Tuscaloosa News’ Cecil Hurt said Thursday that Kamara may not be back with the Tide.

Word out of T Town is that they were suspended for altercations with assistant coaches - one verbal and one physical. Kamara may as well pack his bags.... he gone.

Are you surprised by it?

Besides he served his time in the minor leagues, maybe now he'll appreciate what he has.

Yes I am surprised. You can say what you want about Saban, but he has been pretty heavy handed dealing with those that don't comply. Moreso than many other coaches out there as well.

I actually have been thinking a lot about the Texas job recently and how quiet that it's been. I've been thinking that in regards to Fisher and Malzahn but I guess I wouldn't blame Texas fans for holding out some hope in Saban.

I still look at it as everyone is still an option until they sign a coach. I don't see either NCG coaches leaving until after the game and I thought I read Saban doesn't have a buyout. It just seems way to quiet right now.

Yeah, it's been far too quiet, though if they had something in lace you'd have to assume it would leak....

Doin' the Alabama coaching shuffle

A day after Texas and Alabama swapped defensive line coaches, the coaching shuffle continues in Tuscaloosa. ESPN reports that defensive backs coach Greg Brown will step down so that Director of Player Personnel Kevin Steele can return to the sidelines. Steele will take over linebacker coaching duties from defensive coordinator Kirby Smart who in turn will take over instructing the secondary.

Steele turned down a chance to become Bobby Petrino's defensive coordinator at Louisville for the chance to stay on Nick Saban's staff. He previously served as Saban's DC before heading to Clemson in the same role. After 4 seasons in Tigertown, he returned last season to serve as Director of Player Personnel for the Tide.

Brown came to Alabama after two years as Defensive Coordinator at Colorado as well as many other stops. He leaves after one season and may be looking to get back into the NFL coaching ranks.

Is the kid really petty enough to transfer just because Kiffen didn't recruit him coming out of high school? Or am I misreading?

well if you weren't recruited by the current oc previously he might be feeling he is already behind the 8ball and wants to get a fresh start...i don't think it's 100% that, but there is already as tommy pointed out a pecking order and he wasn't a part of the top 2

Thought Tommy and Bishop might get a kick out of this article from The Onion: High School Quarterback Starting to Suspect that Friendship with Nick Saban Founded on Ulterior Motives

700.jpg

LUFKIN, TX—Despite enjoying the constant attention and lengthy chats on the phone every night, 16-year-old quarterback prospect Colby Spear told reporters Thursday that he is beginning to suspect his friendship with University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban was founded on ulterior motives. “Coach Saban introduced himself to me right after I started breaking the passing records at my school, and it did seem kind of weird, but I just assumed he wanted to make friends with someone who loved football as much as he does,” said Spear, adding that Saban, like all the other adults he knows, mostly just marvels at how fast he’s growing and asks boring questions about his plans for college. “Still, I can’t shake the feeling that he wants something from me. Maybe it’s the way he’s always complimenting my intangibles, suggesting I’d be great in a pro-style offense, or telling me I’d look really sharp in crimson and white.” Spear, who did not want to rush to judgment, reportedly plans to run his theory past some of his other friends, specifically Louisiana State University football coach Les Miles when the pair meet for lunch next week.
