I moved here from PA 20 years ago. Didn't like them at first but now I love them. Prefer them with syrup but shrimp and grits really are fantastic.

Here's the deal with grits. If you have to load them with syrup, honey, gravy, peanut butter, butter, cream or anything else, then they can't be that good. lol

I grew up in SW Ohio and now live in SC. I absolutely love grits. I can eat them on their own, cheese grits are the bomb, and shrimp and grits - ooooh weeee them's good eats!

Oh, and I loved them before moving to SC.

Hey, I've a question : Aren't grits cooked, baked or fried in a loaf mush? Does anyone else remember having mush as a kid? Sliced it with butter and syrup. Don't remember it as terrible. What ever happened to mush.

Best breakfast material I ever had was on a vacation when I was eleven years old, in Jackson Hole, WY. Went out fishing first thing with an friend of my Grandpa's that knew some of the original mountain men as a boy, including "Liver-eating" Johnson! Told me stories as we fished for trout, took 'em back, cleaned them and made sour dough flap-jacks.

As we sat to eat, he described what mountain man his "start" came from. He kept it in the root cellar cool and damp, and got it out and worked it as needed. Said the original mountain man put it in the big cargo pockets of the buckskin britches they wore. Walking worked the dough enough. So the original start of the dough we had for those flapjacks in June of 1968 may have been as early as 1830!

(At least that is what Vigo said, and Vigo and my Grandpa Wild Bill were two of my best role models for my gift of hyperbole!)

Real men do not put ketchup on a good burger. A good burger's flavor needs to be accentuated with things like bacon, mushrooms, cheese and onions. Ketchup is used to drown the flavor of shitty burgers.

Grits done right can be tasty but you have to drown that shit in something as has already been pointed out.

Okay, that was an example for argument purposes. I actually don't put ketchup on my burger but I do put mayonnaise on my bread.

It is still good, but definitely has diminished some over the years and most of the time you can tell they just rushed through throwing a pie together.
