Everyone assumes that the two weeks since the investigation concluded without any updates MUST be due to ND's inefficiency in administering a judgement.
Why does nobody assume that the results of the investigation were horribly bad for those players and ND has spent the last two weeks working its butt off to mitigate the impact on the affected players? Can anyone offer a credible piece of evidence to suggest the latter assumption is any less valid than the former?
And as far as the impact on recruiting...Ask the kids at the Michigan game last weekend how much they spent thinking about 5 suspended players who clearly screwed up (if they had been exonerated via the investigation, they would have been immediately reinstated) versus how much fun they had watching the Irish take UM out behind the woodshed.
Kids don't look at suspended players and think that could be them someday. Nobody assumes they'll get caught with their hand in the cookie jar until they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar.
Saturdays like ND v. UM have far more impact on recruiting than a handful of player suspensions ever will. Does anyone think that UM could effectively negative-recruit against the Irish this year?
Hoke: ND is really strict, kid.
Player: Yeah, but they kicked your butt even without their star players.
Hoke: [chokes on hot dog]
The best way to counteract negative recruiting is to beat the coach who is talking smack. Let's keep some perspective here.

i know i am going off topic again, [nothing new for this thread, but is there anywhere on IE that you can wager Vbucks on College or NFL games?
Dought it.
I’m married to Nicole.
Nicole is married to me.
We both have sex with Avery, though only when the mood’s right.
He's married to Clee Torres.
.So he's the guy that found Clee Torres.
Have't sent, but considering this email:
"Hi there,
What on God's green earth is the hold up with the 5 suspended student athletes? The investigation ended over two weeks ago. Have you no precedent for handling potential academic violations?
I purchased the remainder of what is season tickets a week ago, presuming your office was competent and wouldn't be holding players hostage the whole year. I'm not thrilled to find out that significant players are being punished without being deemed guilty.
If they're guilty, punish them. If you cannot prove their guilt, release them. The time table you're operating under has become laughable and holding student athletes hostage while you spin your wheels on something that no doubt has precedent is embarassing.
Sincerely,"
Hello, ND Administration, how may I help you?

Hello? Hello?
And for the record, this has been a failure on Jack's part as well. As the "CEO" of the athletic department he sure has left his commodities out to dry. He has been very quiet in this process and a failure, IMO.

That's not the role of the Dean or the Academic Honesty Committee. Their role is to see the evidence and then render a decision, not to try to mitigate the decision. This has taken as long as it has because someone somewhere doesn't want to make it a priority. For two weeks it has been sitting somewhere and no one has communicated with the student or with their families. There just isn't an excuse for the university at this point. None.
Rendering a decision that is commensurate with the severity of the crime but offers a path toward resolution and, potentially redemption, is the very definition of "mitigating the impact."
The second half of your response is pure, 100% conjecture on your part, from the outside looking in, and is no more or less valid than any other theory projected thus far.
Judging by the tweets from DD and his father I think we can conclude that they haven't been part of the process thus far and have not been informed of any hearings or otherwise. So yeah, I guess it is conjecture but largely based on the information that the Daniels' have been providing.
