They're not in meetings either. We have to assume they know nothing about the Rice game plan. I doubt they play this week unless reinstated today or tomorrow. Too much info to process without a full week of practice and meetings.

What are these four doing with their time? They we be going to classes when they start right? That's gotta be really wierd for them to be wolking around campus if that is the case.

I hate this thread but I'll post:

At Scout there is a guy saying there are no more football players involved (assuming current), there are other athletes involved (no basketball though) and wins will be vacated. Of note the moderators and long time members (including the writers) have said this is a credible source. O'Malley also noted credible sources can be wrong but this guy isn't running his mouth inappropriately. This same guy also knew of the initial report 5 days before it became public. TIFWIW.

So is he saying wins will be vacated by the other sports but not football?

DD doesn't strike me as a great student of the game in the first place...

Eff that noise. I want everyone held fully accountable but that's self-punishment above and beyond what's necessary or reasonable. Vacating wins would only be appropriate if we knowingly played ineligible players or if we were in a "lack of institutional control" situation. The very fact that we're HAVING this investigation means neither of those things are true.

Who's call would it be to vacate wins? That'd be Captain Jack, right? Not Jenkins.

I would assume football because that was the main discussion but it could also mean other sports. I cannot be sure. Remember though O'Malley noted credible sources can be off some in the details but this guy's source has proven to be correct overall. I just wanted to pass along the info.

I would be so pissed if I were one of these players and also innocent.

I think "innocent" is going to prove a relative term. To me, the most hopeful scenario is that there was something inappropriate going on that didn't rise to the level of outright cheating. The investigation could be justified, while not undercovering anything that merits suspension or worse.

I highly doubt the gameplan is so specific that KVR couldn't assimilate back in. Same with Ishaq. Since DD was nursing a groin or back or hammy or something, I'd just keep him off this week and bring him on for Michigan. When DD is healthy, he's a beast.

We'll know within five days, hopefully.

There are no more football players involved above the previous 4? Or there are no longer any football players involved?

I hope this doesn't turn institutional.

I don't know what situation I'm more frustrated with, this or dumbass Josh Gordon. I just want some answers so I can start the grieving process.

I disagree. Every game plan is specific - it's why you game plan each week.

And it's not just the game plan. They're watching film on rice, learning their tendencies, creating a strategy to win one on one battles, and then going out to practice to see it live.

It's hard to play against someone without a full week of practice if you have access to film and meetings. I don't know how you could play at all if you have no access to any info.

No additional current football players are involved. Only the 4 we all know about.

Not necessarily yet. Really if only 1 of them is guilty but ND could technically vacate wins if they so choose.

Did the source provide a hypothetical outcome?

I know this is a huge generalization, but I feel like the game of football gets much simpler as you move away from the line of scrimmage. Blocking schemes and blitz packages are all very specific week-to-week, but I feel like it's much easier to tell a cornerback or a wide receiver to go out there and just be an athlete.

Yep, we disagree. Game plans are specific but they don't all of a sudden change the fundamentals and you'd have a hard time convincing me that Cole Luke and Devin Butler with 2 weeks of game prep are better than KVR with half a week. Same with Ishaq.

Hey Ishaq, we are going to twist next play. After that, stunt. Go.

It's that easy, huh?

What do fundamentals matter when you don't know your assignment?

Rice isn't going to make it easy on the defense. They're going to use to use play action, motion, shifting, formation and quick snaps to keep the defense guessing.

Let's assume the pre-snap call is man (we're blitzing) and then Rice sends a man in motion, bringing trips to one side of the field. Schmidt checks the blitz off b/c of the formation change - now we're in a zone. Ball is snapped quick, KVR shows off his great fundamentals, plays man, and jumps all over the five yard out. Unfortunately, the slot receiver is running a corner route to the deep zone he should be covering. He's taking it for six while fans are bitching about Austin Collinsworth being "soooo fucking slow he can't even get to the sideline".

Next series, Ishaq is supposed to stunt. Man comes in motion towards his side and the stunt is checked off. Ishaq gets the call, knows not to stunt but he's lined up in a tight five technique b/c has going to shoot the inside gap. He needs to move to the outside shoulder a bit to make certain he's not hooked. Ball is snapped and that motion receiver, the one who lined up awkwardly close to the line of scrimmage, comes crashing down to bury him and seal the edge. He had great form, though. Stayed low and fired off the ball.

Fatigue will increase mental mistakes as well. These guys aren't completely out of shape after two weeks but they're no where near game shape. It'll be hot and humid on Saturday, and they'll be sucking wind carrying all those pads/wearing that helmet.

The only way a team like Rice can come to SB and win is if we make too many mental mistakes. I'll take the guys who know exactly what they're doing this week.
