Obviously not a doctor, but from a lay persons perspective it reads like she had several mental issues messing with her. Not placing any blame, but I wonder if her parents somehow planted the seed for some of this? Both professional doctors so you would assume there was some expectations from them at an early age whether intentional or not?

She seems to had a personality with an extraordinarily high achiever with self-imposed high expectations that she began not being able to meet. A silver medalist in Olympic cycling, violin talent that would be a first chair, a phenomenal memory, the mathematical ability to go into computers at Stanford, and a close loving family, including being one of triplets, who were in touch with her and she with them about her feelings as she began being unable to meet her goals. Verging on the obsessive. Her siblings do not seem to have had the same difficulties. One suicide attempt for which she was hospitalized and had counseling, undoubtedly with follow up. She attempted it with nitrous oxide, which may have had a lasting impact on her brain.

Inside Kelly Catlin’s amazing rise and tragic fall

Kelly Catlin journal: Trying to balance grad school and pro racing

This may have been due to changes after the brain injury from the concussion. Depression can be a chemical change for which there are medications. Schizophrenia can manifest itself around that time with voices, which can also be treated with meds. People can stop their meds. Family said she was "obsessed with success." The stress she felt with being unable to achieve all her goals seemed painful. "like juggling with knives" she could no longer keep in the air.

She could recite 400 digits of the mathematical constant Pi without hesitation. “Her feeling of self-worth is tied up in being a full-time graduate student and pro racer and wonderful track rider, and when things became bad, it became a real crisis for her,” Mark Catlin, Kelly’s father, tells VeloNews. “A lot of us would say, ‘You need to take a time out,’ and her approach was like, ‘If I can’t perform everything at the same time, then I have no value.’ If she couldn’t live up to her internal standards, she killed herself.” (From one of the sources above)

I'll bet the family tried to tamp down her expectations, possibly leave Stanford to concentrate on a few goals that gave her satisfaction and contacted doctors as they felt she may be spiraling down as well as get her to seek intervention. She also seemed to be a very private person who did not value group discussion or have a partner. It does not seem to be that street brain-affecting drugs were involved.

A combination of factors that profoundly affected those around her.

I had read that. I was referring to her early years when everything is formed when I was referring to her parents whether it be intentional or not. Pretty common for twins and triplets to only have looks in common, so it doesn't surprise me.

The concussion could have contributed. My father in law was in his 90's and mentally was pretty normal. He fell and hit his head. After that, he was in full blown dementia. It was like someone flipped a switch.

Sounds like she needed to be under close family and medical supervision until they could get it figured out. Regardless, a sad ending.

I remember when he was announced as the HC at ND. I was excited because I thought he would do some good things at ND, but alas he had a losing record. RIP John.

Gets me to thinking about those days. Things are really different now. If coaches now come in and suck they get fired, buyouts get paid, and the school hires another coach, pays another buyout to his former school, and pays the new guy more than they paid the guy they just fired.

Mac struggled because he inherited zero talent and couldn't (wouldn't?) turn over his roster before eligilbility expired. Some even think Digger did it on purpose; that is filling up the roster with subpar players while knowing he was leaving.

As the world mourns the loss of Notre Dame Cathedral, the literary world is also mourning Gene Wolfe, who passed away last night.

Author and Grand Master Gene Wolfe, 1931-2019

His The Book of the New Sun tetralogy and The Fifth Head of Cerberus are, in my opinion, among the great works of twentieth century literature, never mind the genre of science fiction.

Chet Coppock legendary sportscaster in Chicago died after a car accident from about a week ago. I remeber coppock when he came to Indy in the 70's. He was the lead sportscaster for WISH-TV (CBS). You either loved or hated Coppock.

Crusader is probably a little misty eyed this morning.

This.

Coppock was like Chicago's version of Bob Costas. I remember him on Channel 44 when I was really young, He had a show called Sports Rap, he also did the announcing for Roller Derby which was as big as AWA wrestling in Chicago. He later was a sports anchor on channel 5 - WMAQ, Chicago's NBC affiliate when I was in high school. I read in an obit that his anchor when he was in Indy was Jane Pauley before the Today Show grabbed her. MJ always gave Chet a good interview. He must have like the way Chet said, "I'm joined here tonight by the incomparable, the one, the only... Michael Jeffrey Jordan."

Chicago radio/tv/sports personality Bruce Wolf used to do a character called Chet Chitchat which was a cross of Coppock and long time Chicago sports announcer Chuck Swirsky. We would all do our best to talk like Chet Chitchat.

My first nickname in sports given to be by my 4th grade coach... Hondo. Probably the guy who I would've hoped to be compared to because afterall... being compared to Larry Legend was foolish if not blasphemous. Hondo and Bobby Knight were the last good things to come out of Columbus.

RIP gentlemen.

Peter Mayhew, better know as Chewbacca on screen, passed away on 4/30:

https://www.facebook.com/thewookieeroars/photos/a.598766583496408/2375211635851885/?type=3&theater

The family of Peter Mayhew, with deep love and sadness, regrets to share the news that Peter has passed away. He left us the evening of April 30, 2019 with his family by his side in his North Texas home.

Peter was the man behind the mask of Chewbacca in the original Star Wars trilogy, episode 3 of the prequels, and the New Trilogy. He fought his way back from being wheelchair-bound to stand tall and portray Chewbacca once more in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. He also consulted on The Last Jedi in an attempt to teach his successor. He put his heart and soul into the role of Chewbacca and it showed in every frame of the films from his knock kneed running, firing his bowcaster from the hip, his bright blue eyes, down to each subtle movement of his head and mouth. But, to him, the Star Wars family meant so much more to him than a role in a film.

The relationships that began then grew into the friends and family that he would love for decades to come. As the films released and became more well-known he had his eyes opened to the possibilities of what he could achieve with his role in the Star Wars universe. For more than 30 years Peter traveled all over the world spending time with his fans and friends. Peter developed lifelong friendships with the other cast members and his fans while on the convention circuit touching the lives of millions. As he realized over the years the impact he could have, he became heavily involved with the 501st legion, Wounded Warriors, Make-a-Wish, and other non-profit organizations.

To this end, he established the Peter Mayhew Foundation, supporting everything from individuals and families in crisis situations to food and supplies for children of Venezuela during their recent road to freedom. He not only provided funds but became personally involved with each individual, family and cause he supported.

As he grew older he continued to “soldier on” as he put it and was completely in his element around his fans and supporters. He grew great strength from the energy of his family, friends and the fans he knew and loved.

He is survived by his wife Angie and three children. His kindness, generosity and care will live on in the Peter Mayhew Foundation with Angie taking the helm as his voice.

There will be a memorial service for friends and family held on June 29th and in early December in Los Angeles there will be a memorial for fans set up with his family in attendance, personal effects, and collection at EmpireConLA.
For additional information, information on the memorials or to offer condolences email ryan@ReelAppearances.com

Rather than gifts and flowers the family asks that you consider donating to the foundation so that they can continue his efforts to help the community. You can donate at http://petermayhewfoundation.org/make-a-donation.php

When he and Harvey Korman teamed up, they could barely finish a script without cracking up. RIP Tim.
