I think VanGorder is a pretty good coach.
That being said, I'm somewhat leery of guys sporting mustaches in the last 20 years...not named Tom Selleck.

I'm honestly baffled by the people wanting Orgeron & Tosh Lupoi. That's like wanting Trooper Taylor.
I am not as recruiting literate as most of you. Explain the meaning of this tweet. Why is the timing "interesting"?

BK will be limited in his damage control... trade 'interesting' for 'buttsecks painful' and it makes thing more clear...
it just sucks because we can't really explain the changes f/f w/ the recruits...can be easily negatively recruited by coaches saying you don't know who ur coach is going to be, no relationship etc

Tosh is close to Trooper. Orgeron isn't on that level.
The problem I see with Ed O is that he is a large personality that I don't think BK would prefer to deal with. While Ed O has been a HC, he's also never been a DC. He has HC aspirations again and I don't think BK would like it if he did a 1 and done or even 2 years and done type of a situation.
And how long is this period? And meantime other coaches can poach away? That seems to be an unjust rule (re no contact) in terms of not allowing a head coach to discuss/answer a verbal commits legitimate questions re the coaching change.
I thought the dead period referred to coaches reaching out to the recruits. If the recruit reaches out to the coach it is allowed. Can anyone confirm is this is correct?
I thought he was asst HC and DC at USC under Kiffen?
He was DL/RC for USC. Clancy Pendergast was the DC.
I believe any phone/mail contact is fine, no matter who initiates it. The "dead period" is dead in that the coaches can't make in-person contact at the recruit's school or home.
I thought the point of the Jake Brown tweet was that this is a good time for assistant coaches to leave the staff because it's not like we'll be short bodies on the recruiting trail; no one can be out on the recruiting trail anyway.
Maybe others are right that the point was that no one can go reassure recruits about the lost coaches face-to-face ... but I can't think of any recruits who committed because of the strength of their relationship with Martin or Diaco. It's not like Alford is leaving. I just don't think losing Diaco and Martin matters that much from a recruiting perspective.

But isn't it just as hard to negative recruit during dead period as it is to be recruiting during dead period? Ponder that young Grasshopper.

CanadaLovesND posted on the Pinstripe Bowl thread that Kerry Cooks was appointed DC for the bowl game, fwiw
That's because the list of names people are familiar with in the coaching ranks goes about two dozen deep. It's all they know.
Brian Kelly has been a head coach since 1991, over that time he's encountered hundreds of coaches. His Rolodex is more than likely absurd at this point. He's got the connections and feel for the landscape to hire himself the stud assistants he needs to win. He's done it over and over throughout the years.
There is a 0% chance he hires Ed O. I'll give anyone 1000000000:1 odds on it.
