A lot of reasons animals run, but that was odd to see. I might be naive, but I'm not buying that this means a supervolcano is going to erupt. In fact, that volcano may be dying:

Yellowstone Animals Fleeing Park 'Raises Fears Supervolcano Set to Erupt'

While volcanic activity at Yellowstone has been frequently debated, as have what would happen if the volcano were to erupt, recently researchers have suggested the volcano may be dying.

Ken Sims, from the University of Wyoming, said air and water samples taken from the world's largest volcano suggests it could be dying.

After measuring the acidity in water samples and radon in the air, they found that rather than erupting, the volcano may be on the verge of extinction, the Star Tribune reported.

It's on CNN too.

I'll tell you what, we better hope that the earthquake is just causing some phenomenon, because Yellowstone is a super volcano. It would be a world altering event. One we certainly do not want to happen.

If you hated this winter for instance? How does a few years of cold sound? Ash sweaping the country? Crops and livestock dying en masse?

It would be an environmental and economic disaster.

Stuff like this gets my attention, because animals do somehow sense stuff we can't . Yellowstone blowing would be catastrophic . Hopefully they were just following the lead of a stupid buffalo.

You are right wooly. Massive lava dome under Wyoming. Really bad for the planet if that ever acts up.

Personally, I don't think there is anything to this story. However, on the other hand, I don't think the evidence convincingly makes the case enough to declare this "false" by Snopes.

I know geologists don't think there is enough evidence to say animals can predict seismic activity. But if you have dogs or other animals, there is no doubt animals know in advance of weather changes or earthquakes. Dogs definitely have a sense about things we humans cannot detect. Why would bison or other animals be different?

Personally, I am more concerned with a volcano like Mt. Ranier than I am with Yellowstone, but it is still an interesting situation.

Maybe the bison were just hurrying to get their affordable care applications in on time.

Obviously it would be nice if we could communicate with these animals and get a better idea what the cause of their fleeing was.

Thats why you need an intermediary, someone like....

I think the bison were on their way to Colorado.

That video was pretty disappointing for a "herd fleeing mass extinction" or whatever. Looked more like an intro to a half assed Wild West show or rodeo or something.

Real!

Conclusive proof that Eishenhower's Interstate Highway System killed the cities.

The white bison left Yellowstone in the 50's and 60's. Now the rest of the herd wants a piece of the pie.

Makin' tracks for I-20.

Reading all this stuff got me into looking at the geology (again) of Yellowstone. Its such a neat geologic location. Anyway I forgot about the hot spot that has been identified there and I came across this image which shows the movement of the land relative to the hot spot (similar to the Hawaiian islands) as well as the older hot spot locations.

Very cool image of whats happening below the surface.

The video's absolutely real, unedited footage of bison running into the park. Two weeks before the latest rash of earthquakes. Which is also the time this got re-posted as bison fleeing the park.

There's also the hacks at the US Geological Survey:
Changes in animal behavior cannot be used to predict earthquakes. Even though there have been documented cases of unusual animal behavior prior to earthquakes, a reproducible connection between a specific behavior and the occurrence of an earthquake has not been made. Because of their finely tuned senses, animals can often feel the earthquake at its earliest stages before the humans around it can. This feeds the myth that the animal knew the earthquake was coming. But animals also change their behavior for many reasons, and given that an earthquake can shake millions of people, it is likely that a few of their pets will, by chance, be acting strangely before an earthquake.

I've now got my tin-foil hat on because my dog has been acting strange the past two days lol. We've had storms the past two nights, but she usually doesn't react to weather at all. Maybe she's just getting in tune with her weather senses.

Those buffalo do a better job of staying in their lane than my gf.

I liked it when one of the last ones was starting to drift into the other lane and corrected themselves before the car got there.

Animals react so much on instinct and if one gets spoofed for whatever reason, it's not unusual for the entire herd to react. I'm not questioning the geology, but my uneducated guess is that these guys are simply following one that got spoofed.

So, you are saying that someone might have done a humourous imitation of a buffalo and that caused them to all run away? lol I'm assuming you meant spooked.

I think that was Irish Pat in that video. They edited out the part where he calls the scientist and tells him he is a stupid fuck.

Hahaha I LOL'd in the office at this one. Well done.

I don't know what that biologist is smoking, but you can tell that isn't a dog with mange. I would think the DNR will want to take blood samples and see what they can find out, but you never know with those guys.

The DNR in Indiana refuse to acknowledge that a few cougars are now roaming parts of Indiana even though their pictures have been taken by those motion activated cameras used for hunting.

Right before the 5.4 last week my cats were sleeping on the couch. During the quake they slept on the couch. Post-quake they were still knocked out. They only warn me when they're out of food.

Hey now. That's a disaster in its own right. Reps for your cats.
