Former Stone Temple Pilots lead singer Scott Weiland was found dead tonight. Lifelong ND die-hard like a lot of us.

That's horrible. I know he struggled with addiction for since well...forever. One of my all-time favorite bands. All my childhood favorites have had tragic endings. Nirvana, Sublime, and now STP.

Channeling his inner Joe Montana for Huntington Beach Edison back in the day. I was told at the ND Club of OC that his dad is an alum and might be involved with the club if I remember correctly

I popped my cherry singing Plush for a buddy's band in Evansville, IN back in the day. Probably the biggest thrill in my life.

RIP Scott!

I watched the ND-UCLA game where Quinn led us to a game winning TD with his father years back. Awesome guy that seemed to genuinely love ND and loved his son. Sad day, but rock n roll takes them fast. Rip.

Well this is awful. RIP Scott. Core was such a great album.

The first time I heard this song I was blown away. Great sound, great vocals, deep precise phrasing of music.... What a great way to open up the album:

He just had a interview recently where he said he had been sober for 13 years. Obviously he may have been lying so TIFWIW.

Damn though. Loved Stone Temple Pilots. I guess I know what I will be listening to on Spotify at work today.

IDK if he was still using, but even short term hardcore drug use wears your body, mind and spirit out. I hope he stayed sober though.

I just texted my wife and told her. Her response was... "well he sure held on didn't he?"

Shit. Loved his music with STO and Velvet Revolver. Dude was truly a great frontman. Saw STP in concert twice and both times they were great. Extremely bummed to hear about this. So sad that these guys can't defeat their demons with all their wealth and all the resources available to them.

I think that makes it easier for them to put themselves in those situations and before they know it, it's too late. Much like Shannon Hoon form Blind Melon.

Love STP. Have seen many concerts at Carb day for the 500, STP was by far my favorite.

Wow. This is crazy - RIP Scott. Also, realizing I'm now getting the bulk of my non-ND news from this site as well. Thanks?

What a shame to hear this news . My second favorite rock star of all time. Scary to think of where his soul is right now...

Weiland was a hardcore ND fan. His dad was an alum who, IIRC, played football (albeit as a walk-on).

Plush was the first song I ever truly loved, and STP has always been my favorite band. He played on campus at Legends in 2006, and I got to watch from the front row.

Can't say I'm surprised to hear of his early passing, as he's always struggled with addiction, but it's still saddening. I hope he finds the peace in death that so eluded him in life.

My cousin graduated high school in 1998. She was huge into STP, Smashing Pumpkins, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and so on. She lived with us for her 4 high school years after my aunt, her mother, passed away. She's the older sister I never had. I remember her always blasting STP in her room and standing with my ear against the door because it sounded amazing. This was when I was between the ages of 5-9 roughly. I could sing every song from STP and Smashing Pumpkins thanks to her. I just loved it.

I always thought Scott Weiland was just something else. His voice was so distinct, and the way he let his emotions out while singing was really amazing to me. When I was in high school I had a day of the week, I believe Wednesday, that I would dedicate to the 90s grunge/metal/alt groups. While today is Friday, I'll be making sure I turn on some STP on Pandora on my ride home from work.

RIP.

Yes. Funny story. Some years ago a buddy and I were hanging out at Legends on the ND campus the day before the ND/PSU game. We saw a dude playing guitar in an ND jersey. My buddy goes, "That looks like Scott Weiland."

And you know what? It was him. He played Legends later that night.

Can I just say I really like that uniform!

I also wish those mesh jerseys made a comeback, but they won't. Would be cool to see a team do an authentic throwback with them.

He's my favorite frontman. His style, his voice. Guess I'll drink to him and watch my bootlegs this weekend. I haven't seen a decent interview of him on YouTube from this year, poor guy just struggled through them

It always bothered me that people would joke about sTp being a bad knock-off of Pearl Jam. Vedder and Co. are great, but sTp was better.

And it's really not even close in my eyes. Pearl Jam has 2 of my favorite songs of all-time with Black and Yellow Ledbetter, and Vedder is great, but it was always Mike McCready on the guitar that made that band for me. As far as front man and showman, Weiland was the best. He was the epitome of rock star in my eyes growing up and only a couple of others were on the same level, at least for me, from my youth. Just really sucks to lose a piece of my childhood.

Big fan of Stone Temple Pilots. My buddy from high school produced their first 5 albums. Sure he's bummed out today after hearing this news.

I keep looking for hoax posts.. Sad sad day. Regardless of sobriety that life style can wear your body down. Hope he finds his peace now.

I've never understood that argument. I don't think they sound alike. They came out in the same era, and have been grouped together in the grunge genre, but STP really isn't that grungey IMO.
