Cool, now someone ask him about White and Finke.
Throw in Gilman.

Would have been shocked if BK moved on from Book. I think odds are Book is the starter next season too.
Only way that happens is if PJ is a flop.

I listened to the II podcast today and they discussed QB. Set aside your dislike of Sampson or the 2 Tims b/c they’re just relaying what they’ve learned from practices & what coaches told them.
Phil struggles reading defenses. So if you want him to go in and throw go routes to Lenzy & then run RPO w/o the pass option, that’s as good as it will get & he will get killed. He’s light years behind Book in that respect.
Also in the BGSU game, they reminded us that when PJ went in he was running plays off the Dummy play card before BK called a TO & chewed his ass. I had forgotten that b/c I’ve been blinded by the LB corps & run game improving so much and just thought it was a funny anecdote that we could reflect back on when he’s the starter.
But they all 3 agreed w/ all fans and understand the frustration as to why Book won’t throw the damn ball or give up after his initial read is covered.

Seems a little contradictory on their part but that's kind of par for the course with them.
What good is that doing Book? What defense is Book "reading" and reacting too? What progression is Book going through that is benefiting this offense?
Our offense is seeing zero value in Book "reading" a defense because he refuses to act on what he's reading (if that's what we're saying he's doing). I'd argue that Book isn't reading anything. He's not processing information and acting on it. How is him zeroing in on his primary option to then abandon the play, any different than Jurkovec doing the same? The difference is one guy is 6'4 with a big arm and above average athleticism.
Like I said, this wasn’t about those 3 beat writers personally, just relaying what coaches told them regarding Phil. They never said Book was ideal. You hit the nail on the head in that he may be reading the defense but he’s not reacting other than getting happy feet & bailing out. He doesn’t see the other 3 receivers coming open b/c he’s looking down and abandoning the play. He showed the ability to read defenses in the Citrus Bowl & his first five games in 2018. After that, it’s been hit & miss to downright pathetic.

He's looked fine when hes been in though. Not terrible, not great. He can get the team down the field as well as Book has shown. I would guess the best way to improve reading defenses is to...play in games and read defenses? What exactly is Book doing out there? I'm not sure hes reading much beyond fleeing the pocket after 2 seconds.
So none of our QB’s can read defenses. Sweet. It’s been an issue with basically every QB outside of Rees and he didn’t get much better at it after his Frosh year. He came in with most of those smarts. That’s a big coaching problem. How you can’t fix that in 10 years is a joke. Besides a few games here and there all ND does is beat crap/avg teams and lose to ranked teams.
This is just such a fucking joke. I know you're just the messenger, and I appreciate you posting this. But the idea that Book can "read defenses" is a total lie. The dude refuses to see and/or throw to guys that are often wide open. He *never* throws on time for anything that isn't a short pass to one side of the field.
OK...this post nails it. He doesn't trust himself. The next time he reads the defense will be his first time. Guys are open ALL the time. We don't have crazy receivers who get sick separation...but they get open. And if you know what is going on defensively you should be able to hit them. My biggest issue with Book is that he is scared shitless back there. The next time he steps up with authority and delivers a bullet even though he is going to be drilled...………..will be the first time!!! I'm so convinced that the dude is ruined. Doesn't make him a coward...just makes him useless when you need him the most. Still a great guy. Let's see if Phil is a little less shell-shocked. Though our biggest games are behind us.
For the record..
You heard it here first.
Brendon Clark is the QB under center in Dublin next year.
