Now, pardoning racist traitors, letting said racist traitors implement Jim Crow, voting to uphold Jim Crow and having a presidential ticket that throws in with southern segregationists is doing “just a little bit too”? That’s dumb as shit. That’s doing a lot.

Were a lot of democrats racists? Sure. Here’s the thing though, the whole fucking country was racist as hell including a significant portion of the GOP. Racism was fucking rampant. It was however, Democratic admins beginning with FDR that began to actively dismantle that while the GOP began to actively embrace it.

The realignment that took place beginning in the 40’s where racist southerners began to migrate to the GOP is pretty cut and dry and GOP operatives that helped shape that strategy have openly acknowledged it.

As to the Klan. There were three distinct iterations of said group. The first was post reconstruction and yes mostly southern democrats. The second was a national phenomena post “birth of a nation” and per my previous post included a lot of northern and mid west republicans. The third was the modern Klan and included southern Dixiecrats who post 64 aligned with the GOP. David Duke would be the poster child for this.

The GOP is just as guilty of being a bunch of racist assholes as anyone and it is shameful as fuck.

The only people who widely accept that spin are Democrats trying to change the narrative. The bottom line is that the racist history of the Democrats is an absolute, undeniable historical fact. Doesn't mean all Dems today are responsible for that past - far from it - but that IS the long history of the Democratic party. No amount of spin, "but Republicans did something" deflection, or twisting, or attempting to rewrite history changes that. Best thing you can do is say, "Our party was wrong in the past and we're trying to do better now" and then do better.

You make some good points. It's no secret that the democratic party infantilizes blacks. They've been doing it for 60 years. Some things are self evident.

The whole country(both current parties) has a terrible racist history. The civil war was painted as a states rights issue by the Confederacy. Which aligns with current Republican party. I agree I'm not a fan of the lefts stance on how the view different minority groups. But I think you're being a little disingenuous with the historical background of both parties and how their policy stances have shifted.

All of the things that Bishop states were supported by Democrats can just as easily be said of Southerners instead. Southerners supported slavery, founded the KKK, Jim Crow, etc and were against the Civil Rights Act.
Southerners used to be Democrats, but now they’re Republicans. Just replace ‘Democrat’ with ‘Southerner.’ Yes, it’s really that simple.

Today, Black people with a party affiliation are virtually all Democrats. Black elected officials are virtually all Democrats. Some good points. I don't think anyone wants this to be an echo chamber, that's no fun. I see a ton of that on the Surly Horns Texas forum, they have separate boards for each side basically and they just SPEW unbridled hate, conspiracies, unfiltered propaganda, and general nastiness without any recourse. As you can imagine, one of the boards is in complete meltdown mode the last two weeks as if Armageddon is on our doorsteps. Some are taking serious steps researching how to leave the country and where to go, it's way overblown. While I don't think what we have here is perfect, I also think it's 100% more level headed compared to what they have going on over there. Echo chambers can be really bad, it can reinforce some good things, but it also reinforces the bad and when things go awry it leads to more disbelief and excessive hopelessness for those that can only see one point of view.

I hope nobody leaves personally. In 4-8 years we can expect there will once again be a flip of power, maybe even sooner depending on how midterms go. It's the nature of our two party system. No matter how dystopian they paint the future, or how dire every election is, the reality remains that life goes on no matter the result. 95% of the policies passed in Washington rarely affect the everyday lives of us Joe Smiths living our lives in the suburbs. That's just the nature of government, at least at the macro level. The things you tend to see happening around you are often more local.

I'd take this a bit more realistically if it didn't come from the guy who repeatedly called Trump supporters on here magats.

No one wants this to be an echo chamber. That would defeat the point.

I don't know if Goirish41 and Cack entered the witness protection program, but I also don't recall any Trump supporters leaving IE entirely after the 2020 election either. Take your ball and run home I guess?
