August 17th, I think we are going to see some mighty awful numbers for the Irish. Think 12 or 13. Associated Press won't be as nice as USA TODAY. I still don't see how we aren't 8th or 9th. Granted... working from behind is a good mindset for the team.

I would imagine their average star ranking is still among the top five or so in the country... that alone will get them a spot in the pre season polls.

If USC had our record last year and we had their record last year...do you know what happens? They would be pre-season number one and we'd be unranked. That could never happen though. No wait....

Not arguing anything... just stating why they are still coming in ranked...

Other than last year, we've undershot our number for about a decade. I'm having a hard time being outraged. Hoping to prove them wrong.

A couple of quotes from this hack:

The AP poll is a sign that football is right around the corner, but it is also a chance for fans to go at each other. You can never get these things right.

Notre Dame fans will continue to think the Irish are unappreciated.

Notre Dame once again has the talent to win a majority of its games. Whether that happens is another question.

I have no problem with the guy ranking us #9. But when the communist insinuates that we will be lucky to have a winning record? THAT is Notre Dame fans continuing to think the Irish are unappreciated? What a load of BS.

That's why he writes on bleacher report. I can count on my hand the number of good articles I have read there from their "contributors." If I want hometown slush articles I have much better sites to go to. Just my thoughts...

Right with you Bro...we're in violent agreement.

Man you have a way with words!

Someone needs to pull out the over-rated calculations. FSU #1. Texas on it. We were actually slightly to the good, with last year, very good.

T Town, what do Bama fans think is the biggest hurdle to landing in the sec title game? With Manziel in trouble and lsu replacing a ton of talent, would you be shocked if you guys didn't make the final four?

I think the A&M game on the road with JF at QB early in the year is the game most Bama fans looked at as THE game. The OL has to gel and many think it will take a while to get them where they need to be. The secondary has to play better as well and we are not deep at CB. If JF does not play against us then I think the LSU game is the next big test. Even though it is at home and LSU lost a lot of starters, the Tigers always play us tough. It is a brutal game every year and this year should be no different. After that, it is a matter of getting to the SEC title game and beating whoever shows up from the East.

Complacency is still the primary concern overall. Many fans remember the 2010 team and the fact that they were by far the most talented team that ended up not playing to their talent level. It is a long, hard season and there will be other things to overcome I am sure. Worse case is if AJ goes down. We do not have a capable, proven backup. That would be the ultimate game changer IMO.

Really? Data please. As I recall, we've been fairly consistently overrated. Doesn't mean I don't love us. I've bought it all. And I've been frustrated for about 15 years.

What surprises me about your team is the 'disease of more', where assistant coaches want more money/power, younger players aren't willing to wait in line, etc..., hasn't led to increasing dysfunction over time (like urban's teams at UF). What's Saban figured out that other coaches haven't?

A good chance at contributing to the $51 million currently in the NFL if you decide to stick around probably

In fact, the year on the magazine involved a team ranked top 5 that ended with 3 losses and a #17/19 ranking.

Find me a year in which we ended the year ranked higher than we entered the year (other than last year). Glad to be wrong.

Winning cures most ills most of the time. It is hard to say why a player will come and be third or fourth on the depth chart. As far as assistant coaches... they know what is expected of them when they sign. Most former coaches have said that Saban's "perfectionist" approach does take a toll. Saban does take a bad rep sometimes and his constant chatter about "the process" gets old, but he wins. And winning usually works. As far as the Urban thing... Saban runs the program with an iron fist. Urban allowed his players to run the program with their much talked about inner circle.

Dude, that train has been rolling for four years... one full class... a few full classes ago, give or take, their head coach considered taking a 'better job' at places like Kansas...

Castles made of Sand, even enhanced with deer antler spray, always tumble at some point.

When Mark Ingram won the Heisman, he stood up and started hugging his family and coaches that were seated in the audience. When he hugged Saban, Saban whispered in his ear that he wanted him to visit with the team's psychologist as soon as he arrived back in T-Town...and then he said congratulations!

The Top 12 Most Consistently Overrated College Football Programs Of The BCS Era, Statistically | College Spun – Social. Local. Consumable. College Sports.

Feel free to pick it apart, but I remember this article floating around on here months ago. You would think we would be on the list (as the article notes), but we aren't.
