Lost in what sense? Are they going to the national championship? No, definitely not. Can they still make it to a BCS bowl? Definitely. This team went 8-5 under Tommy with a much worse defense, a worse offensive line, but better running backs. Tommy has obviously improved since then, and I still don't see why a 9-3 at worse season is considered lost.

We also no longer have any of the guys Tommy threw to. He had some juju with Eifert and Floyd, Toma and even Goodman that we don't have any more.

Also just lost a couple of NFL-caliber RBs.

Should be interesting tomorrow. Could see us anywhere between #7 and #14 honestly.

I can think of 12-15 teams that in theory could be ahead of us:

SEC: Bama, A&M, LSU, Florida, South Carolina, Georgia
ACC: FSU, Clemson
Big 10: OSU
AAC lol: Louisville
PAC-12: Oregon, Stanford
Big 12: hopefully none, but OU, Texas, OK St could all be ~15

Im gunna go ahead and say we land at #7. Seems a little high given that we lost our QB, but the polls are often kind to us haha

I think #12, the loss of EG, will cost us the top 10 I think.

Ill say #9. Our defense and the shiny gold Helmet keeps us inside top 10.

Preseason polls, vital to where a team is going 60% of the time, everytime.

#13 is my guess, it will be nice giving espn something to talk about other than baseball and steroids but they will talk about it to the point of insanity.

thankfully camp and preseason nfl games are just around the corner.

I'll go with ND preseason #9.

Anybody know when the AP releases their poll?

Btw its Football Month

I know!!! Was thinking yesterday while paying my mortgage..."this will be the last payment I have to make before kickoff". Pretty much every monthly occurence will be that way until Temple comes to town. :)

That makes moving up to # 1 almost impossible. Damn near clipped us last year.

We did it last year. I don't think we get to #1 even if we started in the top 10 because of O$U's soft *** schedule.

I agree that we won't get to #1, but it won't be because they started unranked

Who said OSU is going to make it all the way? If we handle UM, I am going to root for them for the first time ever over anyone, (at least since SCar last year.)

Well nothing is ever guaranteed but O$U has the best chance out of everyone to go undefeated IMO. When a trip Northwestern is one of your toughest games, you know your schedule is soft

Agreed, it's going to be very manageable for OSU to get to the title game. You never know in college football of course, but I'm hoping for a decent BCS game for us and to hopefully break the BCS drought.

I'm not buying the OSU undefeated talk. If they manage to go 11-0, they travel to Michigan two days after Thanksgiving and then may have to play them again seven days later in the Big 10 championship game. If not Michigan, then probably Nebraska. Winning 25 games in a row takes a different level of focus I'm just not confident they have. December 7 should be a fun day in college football.

I like the idea of being in the top ten with five top 25 teams on our schedule. That constitutes plenty of opportunity to rise high in the standings IF WE EARN IT. Five top 25 teams [I'm including Arizona State, legitimately, I believe] allows us to evade stupid arguments about soft scheduling that almost all other powers have to answer. Additions of BYU, Pitt, Michigan State firm that toughness up nicely. Purdue may or may not be mediocre, but the national vision is that they are a major program. Service academies plus Temple then indicate that the "bottom" of our schedule is better than almost anyone else's bottom.

Pretty good, methinks, for a team with questions at QB [again] and offensive dazzle generally. What this is saying in reality is that the people who know a little about football almost all see:

1). Kelly as a genius, who will always surprise somewhere on the field; and
2). "We gonna be Beast!!!" [to quote a lamented absentee] on Defense.
