I remember an interview w/ Bevaqua when he was hired regarding Coach Holtz. As y’all know, Pete was a walk-on at ND. He was told by someone who asked Coach Holtz about his time at ND that Holtz said he “Had a heart of a lion”. Later Bevaqua learned that is the phrase Holtz used when describing a former player that he couldn’t recall but wanted to say something positive about the person.

I can't hear the 1812 Overture without thinking of Lou. They still do it every game of course since he left, but I feel like it's always tied to him first and foremost.

I had the pleasure of having dinner with Lou on multiple occasions, thanks to a close mutual friend. It was always at our friends house. Nothing fancy, just casual dinners. I had never met Lou before but he treated me like he had known me since I was a kid. I never met a more quick witted human. The thing that always stuck out to me is that he always remembered me and treated me like I mattered. Which is crazy to me because this man had met and was in constant communication with more people in one year that I have been in my lifetime.
RIP to not only the greatest ND coach of my lifetime but to one of the greatest people I have ever had the honor of meeting.

Minor note on people dressed for funerals. Everyone looks like they belong.

I attended my friend's wife's funeral last summer in my lawyer costume. The widower and I were the only men wearing neckties. Is this because society is just that informal? Or is it because it was 100 F Arizona so the standards do not apply?

The last funeral I attended was dead of winter in OH. I was the only person wearing a suit and tie.

I think it’s just society being informal which is kind of sad. I always wear a suit and tie as a sign of respect for the deceased and ceremony.

I had to borrow a suit for my fire department interview, 12 years later I still don’t own one of my own. Funerals or a wedding I’ll respectfully wear a nice pair of slacks and a button up. Most likely it’s a generational thing but I’ve never felt under dressed attending an event. I’m just not a suit jacket kind of guy

The necktie has to be one of the strangest mens fashion customs. Men willingly wearing something that could be used to choke themselves seems a foolish decision. A Google search says they were introduced in the 1600's, popularized in the 1800s.

In the business world, I only am asked to wear one about once/ year.

I think the fact that they have become so rarely used has led to a lot of people just not owning a suit anymore or owning one and then they realize that they are too fat for it when a relative dies 10 years later.
Every man needs to have a suit. Other people expect that you are taking it seriously.
You can get one at JC Penny that looks 95% as well as a tailored one.

As for the size, well, I get two or three sized pants per jacket

I didn’t realize Penny’s was still in operation much less sold men’s suits. But I agree w/ your sentiment. Doesn’t have to be Canali, just get something affordable & find a good tailor. A good tailor can make you look like a million bucks in a $200 suit.

Excellent point. A well tailored suit from the mall looks much better than an ill fitting suit from Savile Row.

Maybe we should normalize beach funerals. Shorts and flip flops approved

I just had to bury my Grams last month. Hadn’t wore my suit for like 5 years. Wasn’t pleasantly surprised that it still fits like a glove.
