So if I am at work and I can't post a link because the county blocks a lot of stuff I can't post it? Because Twitter is blocked and I am not smart enough to be able to enable from my phone.

GK beat me to the bump... you are not allowed to grab any content (including paraphrasing) from another site without attributing it to the source and providing a link to the content.

From now on, we're going with zero tolerance until people start strictly adhering to the guidelines. From this point forward, a first offense will result in a one week ban. A second offense will result in a two week ban, and so forth. We clearly laid out the guidelines and expectations for posting, and they need to be followed.

I understand the rule against direct quotes without attribution, but a "there's a rumor that recruit xyz might pull the trigger this weekend" doesn't violate any copyright laws. Facts of themselves are not copyrighted content. Attribution in that case is more courtesy than CYA protocol. Why the harsh stance for something that doesn't really open the site to liability?

News isn't going to break in the middle of the night.

Yeah, you're totally right. The 24-hour news cycle has been a complete myth for the past 30+ years... Right up there with gravity and the moon landing.

Gravity turns off at night. That's why you get taller when you sleep. The moon landing occurred in the middle of the afternoon. Those are terrible examples.

Screenshot it on your phone. Then post the pic.

I'm not LAX (or GK), but the idea is that we want to do everything we can to make sure 247, or any site, really, is getting the proper credit/attribution/clicks they deserve when their content is brought to this site.

It's not about a harsh stance in the face of something legal/illegal; it's about making sure we're fostering a friendly relationship in the greater ND news community as a whole.

Classic "disagreeing with GK just because..."

Recruiting news does not break overnight. And certainly not major news. Name me one big recruiting story the last 5 years that broke between 1am and 4am. I'll wait.

The point is that we aren't going to permit someone to post stuff without links just because he happens to work the graveyard shift and must use his phone.

I am not asking for special treatment or any special rights.

I am just trying to find i posting info a certain way is ok.

EXAMPLE ONLY Per Loy @ 247 John Cooper (my name) is being interviewed for recruiting coordinator for Hillbilly State University. Is this ok?

1) I apologize if I came across as being negative towards you. I was just saying we can't give anyone leeway just because they have special circumstances.

2) No, that example is not ok. You must provide the link.

For tweets:

When you get information from a tweet, please embed the entire tweet in your post. If that is not possible, you can still post the information, but if the account you got the info from is a reporter or recruiting site you should still give their name. This rule only applies when the tweet does not contain a link to the story.

EXAMPLE:

Per Loy at 247, Bob Stoops is on campus right now.

If there is a link in the tweet, the tweet MUST be embedded, or at a minimum, the link must be included in your summary.

I'm on board with the rules of posting. I just disagree that recruiting news doesn't break overnight. What if something is reported way late night on the west coast? Wouldn't that be the middle of the night on the east coast? Whatever, agree to disagree. Again.

Could a mod possibly update with clarity the clarification of clarity that was previously clarified but deemed unclear?
