Will I get a refund of the 30,000 vBucks I spent to get unlimited rep???

Oh, what the hell – it's only vMoney.

I apologize to all those I've repped in the time I've had the feature. It was not my intention to short change anyone.

I'm an auditor....this is my job

You should head on over to the Department of Neighborhoods, and then the entire city government...

...if you have time, the county could use some work.

Please and thank you.

Buster was entirely too happy with his growing rep-power-to-post ratio above. Should we all gang up and send him red-bombs, or let it go because we like him so much??

Dilemmas of the off-season.

I would but the retaliation red-bomb would cripple me

Spare him this time. Though we do need to coordinate a red-bombing on someone. I've been waiting for just the right post from Grubl to call for it.

hahah not quite.

In fact, and dripping with irony, the only reason I has such a boost is because I went on a tirade against useless cops and received enough rep to nearly fill the page....and then NDinLA wisely throw the infraction hammer my way for being wayyyy too harsh to a poster who is a cop.

My infraction-to-post ratio is now infinitely higher. My e-reckless is growing too...

+1

I didn't even click on the "why do you tweet at recruits?" thread because I assumed it was just someone bitching about it again, I missed out on a great thread.

Brings this to mind:

"Smack WhiskeyJack, He bought a Shotgun
For HE was in the mood for a little CON-FRON-TAY-SHUN
Well he saw the posting Quirk
And he went about the Work
He couldn't take no more of the Jerk
So he shot down his REP-YOU-TAY-SHUN.

Now JPHAM the Chief he stood for Law and Order
He sent out LA and Tate to patrol the Border
From his bulldog's mouth
As his posse all spread out
He said we gotta fight
To clean up the Site
For our Wives and our Daughters.

You can't talk to a Man
With a Shotgun in his Hand
Shotgun in his Hand...."

This has probably been asked but i'm not going through 300 posts. What affects the two numbers?

I don't know the exact mechanics, but some of this has to be as Mr. Spock would say: "Simple Logic". Whenever someone gives you a positive "green" rep for a post, your "big number" grows by whatever that guy's "reputation power" is. If someone decides to give you a negative "red" rep for a post, then your big number drops by that amount. So getting repped by a powerhouse like LA is more advantageous or damaging than being repped by a newbie.

There must be some simple mathematical rule then which translates whatever your "big number" is to the smaller number, which then is YOUR reputation power. If you have a huge big number then whatever the algorithm is will come up with a relatively powerful repping power. If you have a particularly small or negative [see the red boxes below some names] you have no repping power at all. The "mysterious" gray or dull blue box that sometimes shows up is from someone who has too small a big number to positively rep.

.... something like that.

So I was thinking, the 30,000 for unlimited rep is still well spent even though it limits your repping power. Since your reps are unlimited you could actually give more rep points by giving multiple reps than you could with just one.

So if you are feeling bad just rep a couple extra times.

But you can't rep the same post twice... so you'd have to make a concerted effort to go rep a bunch of posts you originally didn't think were so great from the same person haha. I bought it because I was tired of being told I couldn't rep someone because I needed to "spread it around more." It was either Whiskey or wooly... can't remember which... but I just wanted to acknowledge the awesomeness of their posting so badly.......

Also... big shoutout to Irishnuke.... just cracked 100k rep points thanks to our spat in the Chans Cox thread. Couldn't have done it without ya, bud. Picked up a solid 10k points in positive reps to my posts (even with your neg reps).

Who else has cracked 100k besides Hollywood? BGIF? TerryTate?

As Lax mentioned, being able to rep only once per post is a big hindrance to that strategy. In my case, I'd have to rep 16 separate posts from a single user to grant them to same amount of rep that I can transfer without the perk.

^^yeah that's a lot...always a good feeling when you get repped with that much power coming your way.

IrishLax I was excited to see you repped me then I saw you have the unlimited perk :(

It's like getting a huge present for Christmas only to see they tricked you and gave you a gift card ;)

JPHAM is Master of this domain. If he wanted to obliterate any number of rep points or give himself 1,000,000,000, it is within a snap of his omnipotent fingers. Fortunately we live under benign dictatorship. So we all skulk about humble in our serfdom.

Buster had it right though in one way. The number of reputation points that one gathers per post is one indication of what any poster brings to the table in terms of average readability-worth. Whiskey brings about 27 readability-worth rep points per each post. That translates into him putting thought and substance into things he lays out there. My guess is that JPHAM, when he thinks about such matters, is very happy that he has guys like Whiskey as regular posters who bring the "meat" to the table.

This isn't the whole story though by a long shot, as valuable posters like GB and LAX constantly toss in their interesting tidbits on recruiting, which by its nature doesn't always elicit reps back on small bits of news. So reps per post isn't a good measure to judge what they bring to the table either. And we have some pretty juvenile reasons why some postings get reps from the large segments of the troglodyte community.

Rep power to me is sometimes "fun" but also allows older veterans to make a little stronger disapproval/approval point which is healthy for the site, and I'll bet that's why JPHAM continues the system. If all one wants is bulk points, then post a whole lot, be optimistic, say nice things about Notre Dame, and occasionally actually do some work to bring new information to the table. And be willing to back off when we're wrong.

You have to think too that Whiskey's "27 readability-worth rep points per each post" is a little diluted with the unlimited reps perk. If I rep him for a great post I am giving him only 100 reps compared to say 600 if I didn't have the perk. So my guess is that his rep per post average is higher if adjusted accordingly.

We all know that Walter is box full of knowledge.

Whiskey is quickly climbing to my post total as well. I used to have the most posts per day of any poster, but my activity on this site has slowed down tremendously since about the time we shelled out those IE awards.

I need to get back in the game. I definitely have to get more reps too. He's kicking my *** in category with nearly twice as much points received apparently. I have just a meager 75k.
