1. This wasn't as bad of a performance as most fans think. We should expect our opponents to give their best effort when playing against us and Purdue did that tonight.

2. Our offense needs to start the game better. This is the 2nd week in a row we couldn't get anything going on our first few drives. Play calling is too predictable.

3. Defensively, we must improve our tackling.

4. IrishPat and Title2114 should be banned from posting during games.

I think you should be banned from posting at all just for using the excuse "our opponents give their best effort when playing against us". You dont think every single top 25 team's opponents don't give them their all? What a joke that is.

I don't see why people are freting our OL. They actually played pretty well. Purdue didn't have much of a pass rush other than safety blitz or a LB shooting through the open gap.

In the run game, Purdue had 8 or 9 in the box for majority of the night. It's hard to block 9 when you have 5 (+2 with TE).

OL played well.

So it's not possible that Folston is really enjoying his time now that he is a full time student at ND and wants to stay and get a degree?

Look at it this way: It's cold, the girls are ugly, there's no sunlight, classes require serious work, the dorm dances suck, and he's not getting playing time. Oh and the food and reckers is overpriced.

Awful run blocking.

So....your argument is that Diaco, the assistant coach of the year, was bad at his job last year as well. Right?

Gene Chizik won that award, and Charlie Weis was getting coach of the year awards after 2005. Awards mean nothing. He is not good at his job. There was just ridiculous talent last year and a lot of it is gone.

I'm OK with blitzing . . get to him G-DAMMIT! Reesus is scary good . . . like he scares me then he's really good. Davaris Daniels head in his keester for 2.5 quarters then wakes up. Thanks God, cause he was studly. Chris Brown is under used and under rated. Can we release Cole Luke. That is #36 right. He is aweful. Can we release Kavrie Russell. that is #6 right. He is aweful. GAIII kick returns only. Seriously. the above posts are spot on. One of these stud taile backs are gonna transfer. They should be carrying the load. GAIII is aweful in the back field. Carlisle was disappointing with the game on the line. I love Cam, but seriously. I'm talking about two potential All Americans in Folston & Bryant. Really I love Cam, but seriously. I love Fairley and hate him all in the same breath. All the LB's suck except Smith. He's a trooper. Grace will be good, but definately not ready. And bed'not nobody say nuttin' 'bout Sheldon Day. I loves me some Sheldon Day.

Now this is a guy that is drunjk

Your spelling is "aweful". Cole Luke is true freshman. Russell has had some bad luck, but is still a true Soph.

1. Last week GAIII, this week Troy...we got to do a better job at catching the ball

2. Need to figure out play action pass and anticipate/jump short routes on D.

3. Tackling needs to improve...and the angles that go with it.

4. Need to stretch the field earlier than we did taking a few shots down field to keep the opposing D honest

5. Get Bryant some touches unless he is having trouble blocking, figuring out the offense, holding onto the ball, or catching the ball in practice.

6. Mix in a punt-block to give TJ a chance and keep the other team from releasing with their ears pinned back.

7. Have Holtz give the pre-game speak so they come out ready to play

Not saying that awards are the be all, end all. I just wanted to make sure we understood your position.

Bob Diaco is bad at coaching defense. That's your premise.

Legitimate question...did our scheme get that much worse in 12 months?

I think it's more that we don't have the players anymore to run the scheme. There is no Manti Te'o to hunt ball carriers like a heat seeking missile or make all kinds of plays in coverage. Result? Look at how many freaking drag routes and screens Purdue ran on 3rd & long for a conversion.

There is no Danny Spond to be technically perfect on almost every down even if he's not going to make a lot of awe inspiring plays. Result? Routinely lost contain, relatively spotty coverage from the DOG LB leading to chunks.

We're playing a mobile QB literally every single week except for USC. Result? The same stuff that has abused Diaco's D since coming to ND is happening every single week... unlike last year where we faced very few athletic QBs and could tee off.

No Zeke Motta to line everyone up and make calls in the secondary. Result? All kinds of busted coverage on crucial downs.

Anyways... either the players just need to magically get better or Diaco has to adjust the scheme to fit what they can do. I don't know if either is possible. But our guys really aren't being put in the best position to succeed right now.

Pretty much. His scheme can't be run well without a player like Te'o or guys like Spond, KLM, and Motta.

Fact is we don't have a five star senior in the middle. All time great hard to replace.

I do not understand what's happened to our tackling in the defensive backfield. Since the day Kelly showed up, our corners flew up and stuck tackles. Even newbies like K. Russell last year. Until the last two games. What the hell?

I honestly don't think the "mobile qb" is the real issue and I think you'll see this defense struggle against USC and other teams with "non-mobile" qb's. We just can't get any pressure and the LB's inside stink. As does our safety play.

The only non-mobile QB we play is USC.

Frankly, Diaco's defenses have gotten abused by mobile QBs to the tune of 20+ points a game since he's been at ND. This is just par for the course the first three weeks. When we can't get pressure/sacks with just our front 3 or 4 it leads to all kinds of breakdowns on the back end.

I don't think Tommy was throwing a very catchable ball for much of the first half.

The run blocking was pretty bad... some big whiffs by GAIII, Troy, etc.

Aren't we supposedly "letting the players play?" Wasn't that part of BK's visit with Bill B? Could some of the Chuck Martin hate really just be Tommy making the wrong call occasionally? Or Tommy making the correct call and GAIII not picking up an obvious blitz?

I feel like our D line is getting great pressure and has been getting held constantly for two games. It's driving me crazy.

After reading the posts,I thought I was at NDNation.Maybe the same posters at both.In a perfect world the players would be perfect. But its isn't and they aren't.I submit that many of these issues will be taken care of by mid season. How many thought this team would be a contender for a NC ? I didn't.I thought 9-3 or 10-2.We lost alot of key leaders on both sides of the ball.Leadership is hard to replace because it has to come from within.

I'm not sure Day is a bad swap for KLM. The guy's playing better than Tuitt right now. And Spond, God love him, will be but a pleasant memory once the light comes on full-time in Jaylon's head. I did not expect to miss Motta as much as we do, though.
