Between the Davaris groin pull throw against Temple and the Davaris 82 yard touchdown in the 3rd quarter (?) today was there a single ball thrown behind an opposing safety?
Play-action long ball to Chris Brown down the left sideline at the end of the first half. It set up the field goal.

But I agree. Daniels cannot be covered one-on-one. Not even by their standout corner, who is an NFL prospect. We should be throwing deep to DD at least 3-5 times a game. If teams want to keep a safety over top of Daniels all game, TJ's route running and quickness will destroy single coverage and zones alike. We really do have two excellent outside receivers.

I thought the pass protection was excellent today. The run blocking was there when we needed it, and when we actually loaded up the TEs like last year. Running 6v7 is NEVER going to work, I don't care who the running back is.

I'm not sure Day is a bad swap for KLM. The guy's playing better than Tuitt right now. And Spond, God love him, will be but a pleasant memory once the light comes on full-time in Jaylon's head. I did not expect to miss Motta as much as we do, though.

Maybe but right now we miss Spond. Jaylon has missed contained a couple of times and looks a little lost. Yes he has great athleticism but he is not ready to start yet mentally.

BK said the freshman running backs will be apart of the gameplan and there is one combined Carry between them. I liked Cam but I just can't watch GAIII back there. Lets see what they can do or like it was previously mentioned they will be gone if they know they are better than the guys above them

First observation: Notre Dame's o-line played its best in the 4th quarter. That last drive was a thing of beauty. THAT is the way to seal the deal against an underdog who is hanging in at the end of the game.

Second observation: The game is different if ND receivers don't drop 5 passes in the first half. That is 100% on their concentration and in my mind that lack of focus comes from taking Purdue too lightly.

The defense played a cautious game especially in coverage, especially in the first half. Purdue completed a lot of short passes against soft coverage on plays when the d-line were putting pressure on the qb. Bennett's pick-6 came when we adjusted to that and tightened up coverage. If there is a criticism of the Diaco plan it might be that he did not instruct the dbs to tighten it up sooner, seeing that Purdue showed no desire to attack deep. The one long ball Henry threw was desperately underthrown (not by design either)

I thought Ishaq Williams and Jaylon Smith looked good. Their athleticism showed.

DaVaris is a huge weapon and Tommy is finding him.

7 point win on the road against Purdue which ends by taking a knee in the red zone, is not that bad.

-How bout a play action pass, coach??? Seriously, are they ever called, or does Rees just check out of them? Is it possible Rees' mobility is so bad, that Martin/Kelly don't even want him trying these plays?

-Did Shumate play any?

-Can a pass play ever be used with Daniel Smith in the lineup? Telegraphing the plays is already bad enough, but when he's in there, it's like the coaches are willingly announcing to the opposition, "Hey, we're running on this play. No joke. We're running."

-I love TJ, but why is he a top target near the goal line? What's the point of having tall receivers and TE's if they aren't being utilized.

-How is Muffburger still the top play-by-play guy for any English speaking television station?

-After 2 weeks, Purdue was the worst team in a bad conference. They almost beat ND tonight. Temple lost to Fordham. Fordham.

-I'm honestly not sure Rees' limitations can allow the staff to change/mix up the offense/play calling that much.

-Next 4 weeks are gonna be TOUGH.

They barely beat Stony Brook in 5OT today. But I think he just got an extension. The Buffalo media doesn't really give a hoot about UB football, but Quinn is starting to come under a little fire.

Ah I didn't know how they were doing. I just thought they looked good against tOSU. Surprised they aren't being successful.

I think Bryant and Folston would both be better options than GAIII.

Still have faith in Amir.

And Cam is just a man.

It's just a matter before one or both of those guys leave. sorry to be negative but get yourselves prepared.

Unlike high school a college RB MUST be able to block. If they can't or won't block I hope the door doesn't hit them on their way out.

This. Rees only completed 2 of his first 8 passes. But five of the six incompletions hit receivers in the hands. We need to focus better coming out of the gate.

Yes I understand it and I don't watch practice but Coach said something to the effect about freshman not playing till week 6. That's is just stupid with our play book these first games we barely have any plays.

They're not going to leave during the season. That's ridiculous. We'll settle in to Carlisle and whichever of Bryant or Folston proves better, with Cam getting crunch time/red zone runs because he falls forward. GAIII is already out of the mix for ground-and-pound type running. Most of his carriess tonight were shotgun shovels to get him open in space.

Then put them in for designed running plays if they can't pass block yet.

And if the QB has to check out of the call (which tommy has been doing quite a bit), have them run a swing route or something easy to get them into space quickly.

It's quite bull****, we signed our best RB tandem in years, and if they don't get carries, one of them is going to transfer for sure.

I think you should be banned from posting at all just for using the excuse "our opponents give their best effort when playing against us". You dont think every single top 25 team's opponents don't give them their all? What a joke that is.

We were playing on the road, at night, against a team who views us as the biggest game on their schedule, which is the case for nearly every team we play. The ND game is "special" for everyone we play. If you've ever played the game, you'd know games like that bring out the best in you.

And, I'm not making any excuses. On paper, ND is a much better team than Purdue. But, guess what? Football isn't played on paper and just because another team's players and coaches make plays or have a good game plan doesn't mean our players and coaches suck.

I'm disappointed we didn't blow them out. I was hoping we'd turn the corner this year and start mauling teams like an elite team should. But just because we didn't run them out of the stadium doesn't mean we are terrible. It's annoying when every single "negative" play is met with "X player is awful", "This team is so unathletic", "I wish BK took the Eagles job", etc.

Yeah, they hung with OSU and also gave Georgia a game last year. I think there is some disappointment that they aren't blowing out teams like Stony Brook and competing better in the MAC. I don't really follow UB football though.

Me and my dad also noticed the Shumate thing. Very strange.

And the worst plays we call are when Daniel Smith runs into the ****ing tackle box and tries to block like a TE. Don't we have TEs to do that?!?!?!

Only one. Koyack blocks a lot but he really shouldn't, his blocking still hasnt improved much. Is something wrong with Welch? Can't he block or something?

My opinions are that we need new blood at RB it's obvious and how can it be any worse than what's there? Can is awesome, but Amir is not a between the tackles runner. On a good note I do think the team showed a little bit of their identity tonight, the D stepped up to make up for Amir's fumble. That really tells me alot about them, they play for each other.....above all else the D had their best series when they needed to cover for a team mates mistake. I could be reading it wrong but that's just my opinion.

I know, I was going nuts watching that. At least have him split wide. Or bring in a TE to, ya know, play the TE position bunched inside.

In either 2004 or 2007, I forget which year, Purdue beat ND (as most teams did in those years) and put the score of the game on the side of their rings signifying the importance of a win over ND to them.

Edit: Think about it. How many teams put the score of "just another opponent" on their rings?
We ND fans take the PU series for granted. They don't. Is it the intrastate rivalry. They beat Ara 5 times. We brag about Bear 4.

Koyak had that one missed block. After Kelly lit into him he had 2 or 3 great blocks.

Michigan and ND played the same way today. Neither team was as emotionally in the game as the other team and it showed. It was the first big game for PU and it was the classic letdown game for ND. If the team plays like this next week, then I will start to panic.

So you don't think a game versus ND is different for a team then against say Northwestern?
