I believed in our QB for the first time in a long time.

He's a first year QB, and he's a redshirt.

Kid's got balls, and he knows how to protect what's important.

He'll be special. Look at Braxton Miller. He wasn't very special last year - I think EG is playing better than he was at this point in his career - but this year Miller is tearing it up. A year of experience, especially for a QB with Golson's potential, especially against this brutal schedule should pay off tremendously.

I told you Brian Kelly was a winner! He just needed the doomsday crew to give him a chance. The echoes have awakened and are cheering her name!! My post game observation is that ND came to do 2 things in 2012: drink milk and kick a$$, and they finished their milk on August 31. Bring on scUM!

No offense to Golson, but he is no Miller. Golson is a MUCH better passer than Miller, already, but Golson can't run half as well as Miller.

I agree with this. Golson seems to take off slow imo.

I was thinking more along the lines of high-potential young QB playing at a high-profile school and gaining experience. But I definitely agree Miller is faster, but I'd much rather have a better passer who can move well, especially in BK's offense.

Golson isn't a running quarterback. He can scramble like an Andrew Luck or Aaron Rodgers but he can't run like RGIII, Braxton Miller, or Denard. Not expecting him to run, but I am expecting him to throw those beautiful sideline passes, run the offense well, and know how to score in the redzone.

I love Tee's tweet: makes fun of Houston in the process.

Great Win

Oline: Played much better we could run the ball this week and Everett Golson had time to pass the ball.

QB: Everett Golson is a player he is very safe with the ball and I like that he can also make special plays which I like as well.

RB: Cierre Wood should be our #1 Rb and he proved that. GAIII will be special and has potential to be special. Theo Riddick is definitely a multidimensional player

WR: John Goodman made a play two weeks in a row. TJ Jones is very consistent so Robby Toma. Was Darvaris Daniels not healthy. We also have very good recievers that are going to be Good. The TEs were important but also dissapeared.

DLine: Special that is all

LBs: We play very well against these teams but I also want to say Manti is an All American

DBS: They are young but they are ready

Shallow thoughts:

1). DAntonio tried to do what Hope tried: stop the run, and refuse to believe that the rookie QB could beat them. He added stopping Eifert to that plan. It was a sound theory. Kelly and Golson were good enough to defeat it.

2). Bobby the D again found the way. You cannot run on Notre Dame, so you better be able to pass. MSU couldn't. The D-Line destroyed almost everything, and the ramped up speed and flexibility of the deeper defenders [including LBs] prevented all consistency from MSU.

3). The defense did more than prevent consistency though; they attacked passes, not just preventing long gains. We are now tipping balls and deflecting. We will now become the elite defense which intercepts and returns for scores. We're inches away from a D which can win games on its own.

4). The offense did what it had to against one of the best defenses in the country. MSU is going to grind up a lot of teams. They could not do that to us. Our O-Line finished the game. That's two monster D-Lines in a row to play [I still think that Purdue's is better, but they are both monsters].

5). Golson is THE quarterback. Opposite opinions are so preposterous that they must be trolling. Golson is a rookie. Think Tyrod Taylor just starting out. He will first become relaxed about the whole game, then properly improvise more, produce astonishingly good plays with extended plays, and then will come the thoughtful but devastating runs. Watch the evolution.

6). Robbie Toma still anchors our receiving corps with his unspectacular and underappreciated but completely dependable presence. TJJones was starting last year for a reason, and gets almost no respect either. Cierre Wood is our best back against thug defenses like Purdue or MSU, while McDaniel probably would be our second if Kelly didn't have the "psychology game" he has to play to keep the whizkids "up". Those whizkids [Riddick and GAIII] are deadly against teams less physical.

7]. Thankfully Kelly and Diaco are coaching and pay no attention whatsoever to some of the crap we have to read on IE. We KNOW Diaco's got it covered, and with our greater speed and defensive comfort-with-scheme, we will severely limit Michigan and win that game. Kelly is still maturing his young offense --- but his ability to juggle about 15 players at the five "skill" positions and produce winning performances with a still-learning QB, frankly staggers my mind.

8]. Unlike teams like Purdue or MSU [and many others familiar to us], this team is a baby with an undetermined but gigantic upside. Whether we grow that fast just this year, well, let's wait and enjoy the ride.

Lots of good comments.

What I really like is that we can't say "so and so" won the game. Everyone is doing their part, doing the little things that add up to wins.

When this offense finds their "mojo", this could be really good.

T'eo personifies what it is to be a captain. No matter what sport you want to discuss -- not just football -- that's what a captain does. No one could blame him for sitting, and in the darkest of times, he played a hell of a game.

I was almost in tears watching his teammates pat #5 on the back as the game closed. You know the shot...he's down on one knees, perhaps sobbing (if not, close to it)....jeez. What an all-around effort.

Nitpicking?

Nitpicking?

Trying to find something to second guess but cant! Kelly called a smart game. I think if the O needed to put up more points they could have. The long ball connecting is just a mtter of time. Chris Brown has got the deep speed. Wood is the number 1 bCk and needs more touches. Ridiick trips up way too easily. The run game has worked better off tackle. Go,son was a few dropped passes and a few missed passes from a impressive stat sheet but he managed the game and so far has put the balls where only his guys can catch it. Tommy will mAke quicker decisions but he comes at a much higher int, fumble and sack risk. Not worth it when you have this D. Day is quick and athletic. We were getting pressure with 3 pass rushers we haven'T had this in Over 10 years and didn't have it with the great Lynch last year. We're better without him and his prima donna attitude. I think Kelly has been holding back in thec play calling and have been keeping it conservative. Did love the misdirection draws and throw backs. Can't say anything negative about the D but feel as though Bennet is not the best we have back there based owhat I've seen so far. Total team effort but I think we can do even better! Love to heR all those getting on our band wagon. All the hacks at espn (Robert Smith, Herbie, and desmond can eat sh-t).

Just heard Slaughter is out for the season. not good news but like what I've seen from our backups.....next man in.

I agree with the notion that we could have put up more points if needed. I think we held a lot back once we were up 14-3. With the way our defense was playing, I think Kelly felt comfortable.

I still keep thinking back to that Chris Brown route. Man, I would have just gone absolutely nuts if they connected. So close..they will get it soon.

Back from East Lansing. Easily the best "away" experience of my life. So blessed to have been there. The kickers were awesome. Just great game overall.

That halftime speech by BK seriously pumped me up. Holy crap, I'm pumped to study for my freaking exams tomorrow haha. Also, Cierre is beyond a shadow of a doubt our #1 RB and I hope he proved that to all the people I've seen on this board who say that he "dances" too much. Bullcrap - he makes plays and almost never gets shoestring tackled, at least not with anywhere near the frequency of Theo. Fantastic win. Absolutely dominant.

Agree with your assessment of Wood, but no need to demote Theo. Kid's been running hard and throwing blocks for us as well. It's nice to have the versatility in our options.

Does anyone think this is part of Golson playing ultra deliberate, almost like he is still over thinking his steps? Or have we really seen his top speed on the run?

I think he's a good runner, but he's also looking to extend the play and pass. So he's moving but not at his top speed because he is looking to throw. Then when he decides to run, he runs hard. His 2 running TDs were both hard runs. That Goodman throw made me think of a throw he made in his HS highlight tape, the one with The Last of the Mohicans song. Kid is a sick talent, and I think he really sees the game well.

I think Martin schooled all the QB's from day 1 last spring not to turn the ball over. That may make them more deliberate, but we have a good enough defense not to have our QB's taking risks. The other factor is that Golson is still learning the mental part of the game, which Kelly alluded to before the game. That means he's still developing his ability to recognize blitzes and then call audibles to exploit them. He's also developing his ability to read coverages quicker, which will help him deliver the ball sooner. The good thing about Golson is that even if he is slower than he will be recognize where to deliver the ball, he can buy time with his feet in the meantime and make improvisational plays. Eifert dropped a catchable ball in the 1st half of the game, where Golson improvised behind the LOS to buy time. If caught, it would have moved the chains since it was a 3rd down pass.

Second watching

Second watching

Widest didn't catch a pass but he drew double coverage, a pass int 15 yard call and made a sick seal block on Golston which should be on his highlight reel. The block allowed Wood to make the fourth down run easily.

Riddick and GAIII are playing ahead of McDaniel because they are faster and more talented. That is true regardless of the type of defense we play. Atkinson is going to be a huge star by the time he is finished with his career. He is a USC caliber tailback. He needs a bit more strength to go with his elite speed, but that will come.

I think McDaniels could be very very good. Besides, he is not that slow. He might not be the fastest in a straight line, but his vision and football instincts are off the chart.

He's hardly shown anything. That 4th down play where Wood motioned into the backfield along with Riddick... even Musburger was confused as to who had the ball. Can't wait to see the offense next week. I think Michigan's D is there for the taking, and we will probably have to score a decent amount to win.

Then again, Musburger thought (a) that the Te'o fumble was interception and (b) that it was his first career INT. Nice job watching the tape on ND's game from last week, Brent.

I agree, we have an embarrassment of riches at the position (this year, at least).
