This may be posted elsewhere, but Cowherd was really high on ND today. Said they are better than FSU. Said Kelly schooled Jimbo Fisher. Said on a neutral field it's an ND win and at ND it's a bigger win than people would think. He said there would be no issue with putting them in the playoff if they win out. Really impressed with ND.

I'll echo other posters who say this loss won't really hurt us, but probably help us long term. The team will get a huge boost from this. They played incredibly. It will solidify this team big time. And most of the team is young. This team is just going to get better and better. The program is going to get better and better. Brian Kelly deserves huge kudos for building this. ND has to be super attractive to any high school player now.
Yeah the "Big Man on Campus" article on ESPN kind of ripped FSU and he put us in his playoffs and has us ranked #4.

I think this loss can have a positive effect on the team. They had kind of under performed a bit and played with fire against Stanford and UNC. This loss will hopefully piss them off and motivate them. This takes away any complacency they may have felt because their margin for error is zero now. They've won 6 in row, now they need to win 5 more and all of their goals are achievable.

I really wish you would put me on ignore. So if you aren't fellating Kelly and Golson, you can find another team to root for? Guess what, jack? You don't own this team, nor do you own me. I will root for whomever I want to. And I will be honest in my assessment of the team. If that means that I see some things that could be done better, then so be it.

For those of you who were here during the Rees post game debates, do any of you honestly think that I am being overly critical of Golson?

Yes.

I think it is pretty funny that you turn to a "homosexual putdown" with a little ass-kissing thrown in on the side. I didn't realize that you had so little class!

And I was invigorated by the fact that you had nothing to refute the points I made, just the usual clown garbage you see when someone tries to defend themselves after they made a fool of themselves!

As far as ref calls Goldman sucked canal water all night! ND's offensive middle had him so battered that he was holding on just to stand up! Seriously, I counted twenty flagrant holding calls the second time through! The only one that was called was the one that didn't matter! AND, how do you think that freshman defensive end broke his hand? Yup! He had it where it "oughtn't" be!

Our offensive line trashed their front as our defensive front crucified their offensive line! The only reason they were in the game is they have a super-sociopathic monster of a quarterback that nobody has ever stopped! ND came the closest, of anyone ever; so you want to criticize Golson's statistics were better than Winston's. Are you crazy?

And anyone who would want to criticize Kelly after building this program, in a tougher program-building environment than anywhere else in the nation; that would want to criticize Kelly after bringing Longo, Hiestand and finally VanGorder in to build one of the best most functional staffs of all time; would want to criticize Kelly after bringing a young under-dog of a team into one of the most hostile environments in America, against one of the best teams money can buy, go ahead. See how that plays for you!

I cannot even believe you would see this situation remotely analogous to any discussions related to last year's teams!

We really need to win out now though. A loss to Arizona State or USC would really damper this season. We are better than both of those teams but both will be tough games.

I just wished they called it early on in the game that way Kelly would have known they would call it late too instead of letting it happen early but when it truly counts call it. So frustrating still.

They were two different plays out of different formations but with the same intention which is to misdirect Crob's defender. The first play was an OPI and it wasn't close. The play is linked below. Procise breaks down and goes into full block mode prior to the ball being thrown. However, the last play of the game was completely different and the way it plays out is also different.

Agree.

Procise does not go into block mode. Videos provided in the 'Video of Pass Interference thread'. Several different camera angles have been provided by people at the game. We have an opposite end zone view which is very clear and represents the position of the judge who called the TD. He had the best view of the play.

In addition, we have a video posted on vines from the back end of the end zone (hi-def) literally yards from the play. You can clearly tell from both videos that CJ does not initiate contact and has his jersey tugged down (definition of defensive holding) by the DB.

Further, this video posted by a fan (obviously) diagrams how CJ was not committing offensive PI for three reasons.

a) That the DB initiated contact with is hands FIRST. Therefore, CJ cannot be help responsible for the contact throughout the play.

b) That the DB turned CJ inside with his blocking, which prevented CJ from running a route and clearly shows CJ was not successful at trying to block the DB from making a play (because the DB had no intention of making a play on the actual receiver from the second the ball was snapped).

c) That CJ was tugged downward by the DB who was in fact, holding the WR.

He is not talking about the last play of the game. He is talking about an earlier TD and yes, Prosise is in block mode on that one. Watch the linked video.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I've never been so upset by a "loss" (fvck you Pat Ryan) before. I literally couldn't sleep on Saturday night. Stayed up past midnight MST reading IE and Twitter hoping that some group catharsis would calm me down. Eventually dozed off around 1am, but I woke up 3-4 times that night, instantly thought about Ryan's bullsh!t call, and my heart started racing again...

Needless to say, I'm dragging this morning. I love Kelly and this team for making me care so much, but FVCK this one still hurts. I'm still getting worked up every time I read an "expert" claiming that Ryan's call was "clearly correct".

I have a question about the call. Most have seen the opposite endzone footage. The judge on that side had a clear view, as others have said, never threw a flag, and signaled touchdown. Why couldn't he overrule the other in the back (was it the back judge?) and say no I never saw them initiate contact. They were bumped by the defenders?

No, you're not alone. It was the same for me. I had people over to my house for the game and after they left I re-wound the DVR and watched that fateful 4th down play about 10 times searching for answers, found none; scoured the internet for them, found none again.

Evil triumphed over good on Saturday. We are far from perfect, but, along with some other high-grad-rate programs, we still represent the way to do college football right, imo. FSU right now is emblematic of college football's excesses. I wanted to win that game more than I've wanted to win any game since the NCG. To lose it the way we lost it was a huge gut punch.

Yeah I've never been this angry about a call either. Every objective analysis confirms that on some level, there was something off about that flag. I hate it because stages this big rarely occur, and we had the whole country rooting for us against the bad guys on this one. I know we played well enough to offset the negative perceptions of the loss, but one more and people forget all about this game as one we ought to have won. We'll be "another overrated ND team" again.

I acted the fool, went completely ape shit and thought my wife was gonna hold it against me ( I would have)... I mean it was bad the way I acted... my wife and I have a very strong marriage yet I went to sleep on the couch a very humbled man, and thought I'd have to fight for my marriage come sun-up, that's how bad i blew up... she woke me up around 1:00am, asked me to bed and has been super supportive ever since...

I think that aspect of it all has brought some perspective and made this easier to take for me, I'm basically completely numb to it all right now... just another ND gut punch in a long line of gut punches...

on that note, we have what, the OU win vs. how many gut punch loses?? It seems far too one sided.

This makes no sense but I had almost the opposite reaction. I didn't actually watch the game except for the last drive as I was at a wedding. Watching that, knowing we got robbed, and then seeing the positive comments about our team and the relatively insignificant drop in the polls made this feel almost like a win. It did more for our reputation than any other loss I've ever seen has.

I believe this will help us in the long run as sometimes a team has to suffer together before they can achieve their ultimate goal.

It's frustrating and I feel the same way because we crossed the goal line. If we came close I would be able to deal with it. The high that I got up after touchdown, only to come because of that penalty. I felt like we did win that game. It was so frustrating.

Completely agree, 100%. This one hurts even more than it did Saturday. Slow day at work, so I've had the game replay posted in the other thread playing on my side monitor... I didn't hear the Winston / Fisher convo while they were hugging after the game. Literally almost got sick at work.

ND won the game. They fvcking won the game. The worst part is listening to all of my a-hole friends talk shit about how it was the "correct" call.

I agree. I did the same thing on Saturday night. I am still pissed and every time I watch the video I get upset more and more. On the 4-18 I was content with playing a good game and ND coming ready to play but getting screwed really burns my ass.

I was pissed but I've been getting over it. It goes down officially as a loss but in my mind we won that game. We still have all of our goals in front of us and we can still be champions at the end of year. If we give even 3/4 of that effort moving forth we will be unstoppable.

YES. I've said that pretty much verbatim to a few people over the last two days. We scored a go-ahead TD with 17s left on the clock, only to get jobbed by an incompetent/ corrupt (leaning toward the latter) official.

Pat Ryan's calls are invalid. Tuitt did not target Savage in 2013, Fuller was not guilty of OPI against Darby, and Golson did not throw a 2nd INT on ND's final play two nights ago.

I bet Grahambo's got some connections in the NSA. Surely there's at least one disgruntled ND fan who's willing to pull Ryan's recent email and call history, right? I wouldn't at all be surprised to see communication with some prominent FSU boosters.

Personally, nobody in the South will respect ND unless we just start hammering teams from the South with regularity, instead of losing to them with regularity.

That is just a fact. And something that I think ND can and will do.

Losing to a Southern team, from the ACC or SEC, is still a loss and another reason why fans from that region will say that ND is "overrated", "so and so was not that good, that is why ND was able to stay with them", etc.
well with that being said out of the last 8 meetings that we've played FSU, THEY'VE WON 6 OF THEM.

I've learned to deal with losses better ever since embarrassing myself badly in front of friends and their extended families after the 2011 scUM game.

This game hurt, but I don't feel as bad as I normally do. It wasn't some fluke bullsh*t where ND clearly beat themselves (aka 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 scUM games), and ND didn't embarrass themselves in front the country (Bama 2012).

The call hurts, especially being made at that juncture, and the loss was indeed a soul crusher, but I guess I am reassured a bit by the overwhelmingly positive national commentary in regards to ND. I've seen several big writers already stating that ND wins that game on a neutral field, several others already begging for a rematch (the best possible news), and others saying that even if the penalty was legit, it's clear that ND is capable of competing with anyone.

As another poster stated so well in another thread earlier in the week (was that you, Greyhammer?), national perception IS reality in college football. And now the nation perceives that ND can compete on the big stage. That is huge. I wish I could find the article, but one of the big CFB writers noted that ND helped themselves just as much in the close loss as they would have with a win.
