One of my NCSU friends asked if Kelly wants to get fired ...

He could not understand play calling either.

He said State's D line poops out in the 4th quarter ...

Just keep pounding and they drop ...

Funny thing: That's kind of what happened. And then we got into the red zone and started throwing again.

I don't know why any of you guys are taking anything away from a game played in that hurricane.

It's not like North Carolina State scored a touchdown running the ball. Both offenses scored three points.

Go have a beer and take a nap or something.

I think the beer is contributing to the posting.

Both teams played in it...so what you are saying is that we are basically equal in quality to NC State, in year 7, with a vastly more talented team. Again. Year 7. Year. 7.

Watched post game press conference. As many have said Kelly looks like a defeated man.

I do not think Kelly threw Mustipher under the bus:
"I'm just extremely disappointed in the offensive execution and lack of ability to manage the snapping of the football," Kelly said, "which was atrocious."

If he said that hey lost the game because of poor snaps, that would be throwing him under the bus. But, Kelly stated a fact the the snaps were atrocious all day.

Saying that I don't know why they didn't start Harrell or Hoge at center in the second half.

Posted similar on the BK Revisited thread. I think the "throwing players under the bus" bit is being overstated here. He took plenty of blame for what happened today. To the point that going "rugby" on the punt protection might be keeping him up at night.

It's going to be an awful rough road to fire BK, talk to boosters to gather money, when we are going to be competing with LSU, Texas, and possibly USC in a head coach search. Those are great programs offering a lot. I think Jack realizes things aren't going well, and possibly trending down for the program, but it's a very risky proposition to fire BK in the current climate in CFB. Swarbrick gives some ultimatums for next year, and fires him at the end of next season if things continue to be shit. I'd like to think he's doing his research, but those are the conclusions I think he arrives at. Just my guess.

And possibly Oregon with all their Nike $$$.

I think JS would need a hard commitment from someone before he'd consider firing Kelly.

He could have also not defended the play calling, which was illogical and atrocious...

Well the punt block is the major reason they lost. Inexcusable lack of effort by Weisher and the other protectors for letting that punt get blocked when NC State setup return.

The punt block caused the loss but you know just as well as i do the offensive game plan was never set up to win this game.

Throwing any player under the bus after coaching a historically bad game is inexcusable. I don't know who is the best option to coach Notre Dame going forward but I am absolutely sure it is not Brian Kelly. He should be fired in the morning, Sanford should be interim HC and Jack should get started in his coaching search.

I said this 2 weeks ago and most got bent out of shape that these kids can take it. It's not that they can't take it it's that they aren't deserving of the criticism. You are a grown ass adult who is being paid handsomely for what you are doing (or failing to do). But you want to personally call out a student athlete for working his butt off? That's where I drew the line. And then you double down in support of your defensive coordinator who "you" later fired not less than 24 hours after showIng more support. Nope Brian Kelly, get lost and get bent

Who did Kelly throw under the bus today? Who did he criticize that didn't deserve to be?

This team sucks right now. Coaching, execution, whatever. Not fun to watch. It didn't bother me much, as the weather was almost unplayable. All I know is I AM SICK OF QB KEEPERS!

Mustipher. Go listen to his press conference. I don't think he should be fired mid season. Many have expressed concern about losing recruits. The way he is deflecting blame and calling out student athletes, who would have any their kid to come here? And saying "we need to coach better" is deflecting blame

I did listen to the press conference and I have posted repeatedly that he did not throw him under the bus.

You tell me where he is blaming Sam for the loss or throwing him under the bus.

I just don't see anywhere in that statement him calling out a player.

Please tell me what I am missing.

I was bartending today during the game, and don't think I've ever poured more shots. That game was flat out depressing. It was IMO, the culminating event in a disaster of a season. This IS rock bottom. There is literally nothing else that can happen on the field to make it worse.

Takeaways:

1. I seriously think BK is in some kind of power struggle with the admin, and is thumbing his nose at them. There is no other excuse for that game plan.

2. Nobody that determines the outcome of games seems to care anymore

3. People always say Harbaugh wears out his welcome and eventually rubs players the wrong way, but its time to look in the mirror

I mean...I'm a Kelly guy, but I can admit the play calling was ridiculous today. The kinds of shit they tried to do with the run and pass game defy logic and reason. I think you know football...and I believe you HAD to be flinging some WTFs around today. Had to be.

Compound that with Mental, execution, and effort issues on the field...and we get the kinds of things this team does to itself.

Did we learn something new today...probably not.

So my takeaway is...in a Hurricane, or a bluebird day...this team is dysfunctional, from staff to players. The result is inconsistent performances everywhere....and Ls.

There are some good teams left on the schedule...we'll see if they can regain some credibility...coaches and players alike.

Truth is, Notre Dame was 4 points away from making the playoffs last year. This year, they just seem lost. This team just does not appear " with it". Is it because they are young? Maybe. Is it coaching? Probably.

Getting a "top" coach will not happen. Not because Notre Dame is not a premium program but because ND does not let small indiscretions slide like the bigger programs do. Heck, when Aaron Hernandez was at Florida he was crazy but they brushed it under the rug to get wins. ND will not do that. Does the team have "a**holes, haha of course. I could name a lot from the last 10 years but being dicks doesn't mean much.

I will not and won't condone recruiting "thugs" but when programs have more lee way with academics and criminals. It does have an effect.

I will never dog a Student Athlete and I will always remain faithful to the team I've always rooted for. Our Lady, Notre Dame.

They will win, they will prevail.

Back to the punt block for a moment.I didnt like the blocking formation and when you do block YOU dont get knocked back into the kicker. You absolutely have to stand your ground.Basic blocking plagues this team,as does tackling.

The poor O line play made the offense one dimensional.Passing was the only option of course receivers have to catch the ball. What a frustrating day for everyone.

Weather can certainly be a great equalizer, especially on a natural surface. I'm not ready to get rid of Kelly yet, I think we can make some adjustments and improve still (Getting rid of BVG was a step in the right direction). Consider this though: ND is at least 0-3 in the BK era in poor weather games against opponents (With two of those teams having far less talent): South Florida in 2011, Clemson in 2015, NC St. in 2016. There were some other games, but those are the three worst that come to mind. In each of them we struggled with running the ball and our passing attack ultimately couldn't bail us out. Turnovers were a big culprit. Coaching has a hand in that. BK has a history with failing to come out on top in these games. When the weather gets bad you have to get physical and pound the ball, it's not always easy to throw the ball in wet/windy conditions...especially with a young receiving group. It was a bad game plan.

Interesting stat I read on 24/7. ND had 16 plays inside NCS 25. In 51 mph winds and HORRENDOUS rain, they ran designed pass plays 13 times. Kizer was sacked 3 times, and went 1 for 9 passing on those downs. Unreasonable play calling. I don't know what to say. I just don't know what to say boys....

That stat is not correct. According to the play by play from the game (Notre Dame Football :: UND.COM :: The Official Site of Notre Dame Athletics), ND had 23 plays from the NC STATE 25 or closer, and they threw it 16 times for -3 yards total, and ran it 7 times for 9 yards.

But we didn't throw it too much.
That was this week's head scratcher from the press conference.

Look at it from a coaching perspective. The coaches put together the game plan. The game plan called for 38 rushes, and only 26 pass attempts. I didn't get to see the game, but looking at the replays/highlights................. I can't believe that they played this game on that POS field. It should never have happened.

Both teams played in this crap yet we are only making excuses for one. This was a horrible game and we didn't show up with an executable or realistic game plan.

I hope everyone gets the chance to see some highlights or actually watch the Washington game from today. Talk about a fundamentally sound football team that has an agenda to kick the other teams ass. It was a great thing to watch!
