Defense played ok
Out coached AGAIN.
Kelly no longer needs to be at ND. His EGO is unbreakable. His Staff needs to go with him.
We ran the ball ok in the 4th other than that our run game is pathetic.
Bad decision making all game.
Our Oline is very overrated.
D was ok...still too many shoulder tackles. If people can't wrap up, sit their ass down...I mean whats to lose now...I see more value in a culture of accountability than a win loss record.
Punting was good...had a shank, and of course the block. Not sure if operation time was long, or what...not sure there should have been any pressure anyway, since we had enough protection...they just took the play off. Time to move to a rugby kicker who can get eyes up and move from pressure if thats the effort you can expect out of protection.
Oline is so inconsistent at run blocking...now the backs aren't pounding it up in there. Yea, yea, read option, stretch, pass happy, weather, blah blah blah...but as a back, you still put a foot in the ground lower the pad level and take what you can get on a day like today. Backs and DK looked like they were not running with commitment at times...that comes from expecting the oline to fail...that is SOOOO bad because it is a trust issue. Oline cannot be serious with the constant jumping off sides at critical moments...again nothing to lose...I see more value in a culture of accountability than a win loss record....if you've been in this program for 3-4 years, and you still jump when it is critical execution time...you are a liability, and you need to sit the fvck down...don't really care if you, or 27 talking heads think you are going to the NFL. Not if you don't get back on the field at ND you aren't. Even pass pro broke down today far too often...usually at very inopportune moments...mishaps at critical moments are a theme of the entire team, BTW.
Offense...terrible play calling. I understand throwing the ball a little, but it has got to be slant, slant, slant, slant, slant, pump to the slant, TE out or short fade back to the sideline to your 6'5" guy. But the ball has got to be out at 2. I expected to see double tights and pound , pound, pound. Maybe some unbalanced. I mean NOTHING I would expect to see on offense transpired today. I agree with an earlier poster in that what I saw today makes me wonder...is Kelly trying to get fired here? Even if they take the run game away a high tempo, short passing game from the spread is at least plausible...It just felt like I was watching someone with decision fatigue call plays...where they just shut their brain down...and did the same shit...awful.
Receivers...on a day like today the ball is going to take too long to get there for you to be running away from it...gotta come back, high point it, and take the yards. As well, I didn't like the effort on some catchable balls. Receiving is largely concentration and desire. Time to grow up receivers...because some balls hit the ground today you all had a say in...one even got intercepted. The wind and rain are brutal, but our boys left some plays on the field that should have been made. I am beginning to think our TE position...all of 'em have Leprosy....but if it were just that, they'd have more receptions...WTF is going on here?
