For reference, since USA Today declined to mention it, Jeremy McLellan is a comedian. I'm all for these suggestions though

McLellan's brand is so powerful that he's going to inadvertently meme America into an integralist monarchy.

Liz Bruenig has been on a war path about universal childcare lately, which strikes me as an odd take.

Yup. I like Breunig, but that take is indefensibly stupid. Her opinions on abortion, universal daycare, etc. are warped by the DSA creeps she keeps company with.

The 2020 implications are brilliant, especially with all five viable Dem candidates for POTUS are senators. Push them as hard to the left as possible to win the primary and then pummel them with their own records in the general election.

AOC is the greatest political gift to the Republican Party in a decade.

I honestly hadn't looked much into the Green New Deal until now. I think this is hilarious.

It calls for a 10-year plan to drastically cut carbon emissions and to replace fossil fuel with renewable energy sources such as wind and solar in the coming decades. The resolution was accompanied by a fact sheet produced by Ocasio-Cortez’s staff and posted on her congressional website that called for eliminating the need for air travel, retrofitting every house and building to green energy standards, and reforming the nation’s agricultural practices to eliminate cows.

So, we're going Oregon Trail here basically? I kid, and while I agree we need to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels, I don't see them going away in the next 10 years. For starters, we use 20 million barrels of fuel a day in this country. To replace even a quarter of that consumption you need a viable energy replacement that is easily accessible, affordable, and producible. We currently don't have the means nor the infrastructure to accomplish that task. Now, eliminating air travel? That's ridiculous and it isn't going to happen. Eliminating cows? Good luck with that too.

I will say that the AOC memes are hilarious though.

Here's a new study purporting to show that Voter ID laws are basically irrelevant. That the problem such laws seek to address doesn't exist, and that these laws (once passed) have no discernible impact on minority turnout.

Confirmed - Bezos leaker is his GF's brother.... NOT someone in the GOP, or in the gov as the Left media wanted to spitball...

keep you dick in your pants and stop blaming everyone else.

i did love the thought of one of the greatest threats (Bezos and Amazon) to privacy getting hacked himself.

i love how NY (New Green Deal HQ) Dems offered the most tax breaks to entice Amazon's HQ2, then turns around and goes socialist. AOC cheering for all those jobs to go away...

Big business will either A) move out of Blue States, or B) get hypocritical Dems to forget about raising taxes (except on individuals that is).

She says they can now invest those 3 billion dollars into the community....what 3 billion dollars? The government expenses are going up every year and the revenue in NY is literally dropping.

Florida has millions more residents than New York and spends about half as much money. You cant make that shit up lmaoooo

she might be the most clueless politician i've ever seen. while i hate that govs basically bribe businesses to come, those business do provide a lot of jobs, which in turn provides a lot of income tax.

the whole spending problem, and big gov issue is pretty much ignored by the left. it's like comparing Cali state gov to TX state gov. Cali politicians are full time and meet constantly. TX politicians are part time and only meet a couple times a year. Cali is financially a joke, has crumbling infrastructure and some of the worst schools in the nation. Why do they need full time politicians that do nothing but fail? Wonder who they're blaming the complete and utter failure of the high speed train BS on...

My thing is the money,... my area of Cali had this multi million dollar solar farm approved years ago... the idea was later scrapped but at least some of that money was spent/allocated... in any other sector people go to jail for that bs... but with big gov it’s on to the next scam.

Did you see the full clip of Ilhan Omar yesterday? She was grilling Elliott Abrams about Iran-Contra and she very clearly had no idea what Iran-Contra was. She couldn't even pronounce it.

She attended the same university as me. Please don't judge me. Minnesota press also seems to be hot on the trail of her possibly committing some sort of fraud. ALLEGEDLY married her brother for a period of time so he could move to the United States. If that proves to be true, I don't know how she stays in office. No worries though, leave it to Minneapolis to just pick another shit head cut from the same cloth.

Minnesota is a fine state...once you get out of the Twin Cities. The Dems they generally pick outside the metro are people I disagree with, but seem okay. Minneapolis/St. Paul on the other hand, are shitheads in every sense of the word.

The Bruenigs just released a new paper titled "Family Fun Pack" that proposes a comprehensive set of family welfare benefits. Glad to see these issues getting serious consideration from the left.

This would be insanely popular if it gains traction, and is likely to be endorsed by someone like Ivanka Trump.

Naturally I f*king hate it.

"To the extent that children receive resources, they do so indirectly through a family unit."

That would still be true. Benefits would still be distributed through parents, and the $300 monthly welfare check they're getting would go to drugs and alcohol, the same things that the parents who don't take care of their children spend their money on already. The only people benefiting from this policy would be drug dealers and liquor stores. Maybe state scratch ticket programs.

The only way to get benefits to kids by going around parents is through schools, but poor kids already get free lunch so this isn't anything new.

Baby box. Three months before the birth of a child, each family will receive a box that contains essential items like clothes and bottles with the box itself doubling as a bassinet.
I'm fine with this, but I'm not sure we should be encouraging bottle feeding.

(50% troll comment, 50% serious)

Parental Leave. Families will receive 36 weeks of paid leave for the birth of a child. In single-parent families, the sole parent is entitled to all 36 weeks. In two-parent families, each parent is entitled to 18 weeks but may transfer up to 14 weeks to the other parent. The paid leave benefit will be set equal to 100 percent of earnings up to the minimum wage and 66 percent of earnings beyond the minimum wage. All recipients will be entitled to benefits equal to at least the minimum wage but no more than the national average wage.
Untenable, and discriminatory against two-parent households. A single mom gets 36 weeks and a single dad gets 36 weeks but a married mom and dad have to share 36 weeks.

Also, this is an extreme burden on employers. Even if the feds are paying it (rather than a mandatory entitlement to be paid by companies), you can't just be losing employees for 36 weeks at a time. Companies can't function that way.

Free child care. After the parental leave period, children will be entitled to a spot in a free public child care center. Parents who wish to care for their children at home can opt out and receive a home child care allowance equal to the per-child wages of child care workers. For example, if public child care workers are tasked with caring for four kids at a time, then the home child care allowance would be equal to one-fourth of the pay of child care workers.
Perverse incentives. Encourages people to HAVE kids but not to RAISE their kids.

Free pre-k. From age 3 to 5, children will be entitled to spot in a free pre-k center.
See above. Encourages reproduction but not child-rearing.

Free school lunch. Public child care centers, public pre-k centers, and public k-12 will all provide free school lunches.
Already exists.

Free health care. Everyone below the age of 26 will be entitled to free health care through the Medicare system.
Already exists.

Child allowance. Parents will receive $300 per month for every child they are caring for under the age of 18. This benefit will replace the child tax credit, child and dependent care tax credit, dependent care flexible savings accounts, 529 accounts as used for elementary or secondary school, and head of household filing status. It will also mostly replace the earned income tax credit.
Does nothing to address the problem that resources intended for children funnel through parents to be mismanaged.
