Why?

Do you really think these laws are going to stop rapists/molesters from committing crimes? If someone wants to molest someone in the bathroom they are going to do it law or not. The only people affected by these laws are transgendered people.

If we changed a couple of nouns in that post, you'd sound like an NRA life member.

I almost posted that many of the people that I see supporting this law are anti gun laws because they don't stop criminals but are for these laws because it will stop criminals.

ETA: I get that you are pointing out the contradiction in my post, but the contradiction works both ways.

The men's room is already trans-gendered. If you want to sit down and piss, they are equipped to handle that.

Sound point.

But in the interest of equality and fairness shouldn't women's rooms provide urinals for choice?

How are things falling apart? Well because of this issue, now if you want to talk about the shit show that is our presidential race that is a different story.

Do you know any transgendered people?

Of course a molester or rapist will commit those heinous acts regardless but this allows easier opportunity. Rather than sneaking around and trying to slip into a restroom behind someone or a child without being seen, they can now just walk in with zero suspicion to follow.

How many more sexual assaults will follow once this law goes into effect? Let's say only 10 in the whole U.S. Wouldn't 10 still be too many? In my eyes one is too many.

For instance, females get raped in parks at night while running, unfortunately. If the government wanted to save on their electric bill and lower taxes as a result but they had to remove all the lights in the park. Would that be okay? We would all get more money in our pockets. I understand this would never happen and on the extreme side but its a parallel in the sense that females get raped in parks while running but changing one thing can easily increase the probability.

This law does not only effect transgenders, it effects everyone.

What about the transgendered people that get assaulted/raped in the bathroom? Are we suppose to ignore them? You are acting as if it only flows one way. The truth is that transgendered people have been using the "other" bathroom for years but now there is an outcry over it. Chances are that you have used the bathroom at the same time as a transgendered person.

Oh I know I have used a restroom with a couple because I know a couple. Interestingly enough, a male and female.

My point is avoiding any form of assault, completely. Will that ever happen? Obviously, no and that is sad to write. I am just stating that this law opens the door for the molesters and pedophiles.

Basically rob Peter to pay Paul. Take the "security" away from one group to appease another group.

That is the way of the world though, everyone will not be pleased with every decision and law. If it becomes nation wide, I will not boycott the law nor refuse to use the restroom. I just think there is another way to please all groups.

I like the idea that you brought up earlier of having 4-5 smaller individual bathrooms instead of 2 large ones, but I just don't see it happening unfortunately. Personally I am for now laws either way, it seems that transgendered people were using whichever bathroom they wanted without issues until a few states wanted to pass laws against it. Why not just leave it alone?

From my understanding, common sense is not a prerequisite for political office.

That is very true for both sides of the aisle. In fact I believe that having common sense usually precludes someone from running for political office.

I think anyone with common sense would avoid politics completely. I've attempted to speak to brick walls before. After a minute of one sided conversing I secede the victory to the brick wall. Simply because you can speak logically for hours but that brick wall will still be standing and won't move their position. Ineptness ensues.

That is politics in a nutshell.

How different is it from co-ed floors with mixed use bathrooms and showers?

All right, maybe the guy or girl using a mixed-use bathroom in a dorm late at night has to be cautious against being raped and pillaged by a lurking transgender.

But remember that open carry is allowed on college grounds in Texas. Elsewhere, just get your permit. You have your Second Amendment rights to protect you.

ESPN is a business and Shilling has consistently used his position there to make controversial comments.

I don't disagree with your larger point, but the big issue I have with it is; Shilling didn't make any controversial comments. "If you have a penis, you should use the men's room" is not controversial. But a bunch of people who aren't happy unless they are offended assigned a different meaning to that comment, and suddenly it is controversial. The North Carolina law says that you have to use plumbing appropriate facilities, so that sexual predators cannot use an excuse to gain easy access to areas where children might have their pants down. That's not anti-trans...... it's anti-sexual predator. Just because some overly sensitive trans dude got his feelers hurt and convinced other people to buy into it being a statement about his entire lifestyle, that doesn't mean that it is. But society seems to just instantly buy into it, without ever really thinking about it.

It is the Disneyfication of American culture: all happy-talk and no criticism of anyone's stupid decisions; instead, unqualified accession to their demands that everyone else accept these fantasies about being a different "gender" than what they were to that point.

Hey now. They were fine with Snow White the slut sleeping with the 7 dwarfs (I mean little people). That's pretty progressive.

It may have been said in the ESPN thread, but we probably do need a "?" restroom going forward.

That will definitely be shot down as offensive, because Transgender people know what they are and they are not punctuation.

To be honest bathroom laws seem crazy outside of this though. A buddy of mine was not allowed to have a "men's" restroom because there was only one stall. The women's room was fine though.

I'm going to go with ... somewhere before here. lol

Why though? Because it looks ridiculous? The pro-transgender argument is that gender is a social construction and thus even if you are born with the male anatomy, you may not accept the assigned gender roles that come with being a male in our society.

Why must this man accept that he is not 7 years old? He may been born 40 or 50 years ago, but the idea that people are expected to change their behavior simply because they get older is just a social construct created as part of organizing hierarchal societies.

You cant have your cake and eat it too.

Absolutely, and we should just get rid of gendered restrooms.

Or we can stop this nonsense and say guys use men's and gals use women's. You can pretend to be what you want once you've done your business.

I'm going to guess women don't want to give up gendered restrooms. The place where they have couches and candles would need to be where the urinals go (The Office reference).

So, you suggest carrying in the shower?

Not that I have ever heard. I lived in a mixed dorm for a year, but even then it was still split into two different wings on each floor. On top of that each wing had that sex's bathroom in it.

I know of other schools where the mixed dorms were completely mixed, no separate wings. Again, the bathrooms were still segregated.

Ours was each wing of the building was a 'hall' with each hall being male or female,.. and each having it's own facilities/showers. Two story, 6 wings in all (none in the back of the building) 3 wings for each. That was our 'mixed dorm'

Rome man arrested in women’s bathroom at Calhoun Walmart - Rome News-Tribune: News

Rome man arrested in women’s bathroom at Calhoun Walmart

Norwood Smith Burnes

Piggly Wiggly Lindale - Rome Floyd - heartbeat - rome

Posted: Wednesday, March 24, 2010 12:00 am

Calhoun Times

A Rome man was released on bond after being arrested for allegedly taking his clothes off in front of children in the women’s restroom of Walmart in Calhoun.

Norwood Smith Burnes, 51, of 2 Leland Ave., Rome was charged with public indecency, disorderly conduct, and criminal trespass on Sunday and released later that day.

According to the police report filed by the Calhoun Police Department:

According to witnesses, Burnes was found in “stages of undress while on the stone floor and would do this in the presence of several young children.”

Police officers arrived to find Burnes wearing a dark woman’s suit including a short skirt and jacket, black leather coat, black high heals, red nail polish, green eye shadow and women’s jewelry. According to the witness, Burnes had been in the women’s section of the store with his skirt “kicked up showing his white girdle and dark thong underwear.”

The witness also said that when Burnes entered the women’s bathroom, he ordered other women out as they entered. He was arrested at 7:30 Sunday morning.

Notes on the police report indicate that Burnes “has long criminal history of indecent exposure and is currently on probation for public indecency.”

Just to add to the craziness of this discussion...
