It started with that damn bubble screen idea, so predictable. I'd prefer a more traditional screen game approach. Pitt and Miami are not the teams to run the bubble against.

My 4 major takeaways/thoughts:

1.) Pat Narduzzi is every bit the bitch we thought he was, surpassed only by his players who were celebrating that garbage time TD like they just won the Super Bowl.

2.) Kicking aside, this is a GOOD football team.

3.) Sometimes it feels like Denbrock overthinks goal-to-go situations. Speaking of which:

4.) Why is it we can go under center on our own goal line, but can't do it on the opponent's goal line?

Even the headlines on ESPN piss me off:

"Notre Dame keeps playoff hopes alive with big win over Pitt"

It should read more like:

"Notre Dame dominates Pitt solidifying their place as one of the playoff favorites"

Which is a lot closer to the truth. National championship odds had ND 5th before today. They may end up as high as 3rd after today.

True story- told Christian gray after game “good game”

I was on field level most of game. Talked to a few players during early early warmups.

Carr didn’t play good but I thought denbrock called an absolutely head scratching game.

Defense is now so in tuned with what they’re doing. The late penalties were BS and freeman was so pissed.

I liked how ash protected the field by letting traore rush hard and bringing pressure from field side constantly making pitt qb look or flush to boundary or up gut.

Fields is too good to not be involved more against man instead of just say off sides plays. He’s one of the most physically dominant WRs in college. Bigger than claypool, better hands, not quite the speed though. I think he can be the reason we beat anyone and force a safety over the top of him opening up love more.

Ok well this is going to be negative as once again we leave double digit points on the field due to incompetent playcalling by Denbrock. He stinks of Brian Kelly. Outside of one magical season with 3 losses and a great QB and WR what has Denbrock done that warrants he gets this OC gig? He has he a wealth of gifts and he is squandering much of it. Freeman should rip him a new one for his shirt yardage play calls. They have run that short sprint out play multiple times in very shortage and failed often. Out both RBs back there and give your OLine a vote of confidence. Oh yeah get under center too while you’re at it you out dated shit head. We left over 20 out there today in a game where some extra style points matter.

That was enough for Denbrock who is now one of the highest overpaid coordinators coaching.

CJ Carr; this inexperienced QB needs to read the D better and not throw a 5 yard screen into a crowd. His INTs were ugly AF. He was responsible for 9 of the Pitt points all by himself. He needs to pull the ball down more often and run. He did a little bit today and it was the best part of his game. He was responsible for 19 points as Love gets credit for his long TD. Carr does not belong on any QB watch lists. His pocket awareness or lack thereof is going to create some turnovers.

Fields is becoming all star level. Pauling is not as good as Faison in the short passing game and shouldn’t be used in his place for that.

Disappointed that our D faltered to give up more style points. Not sure what this stringers were in there but they tackled like shit. We really need to wrap up the QBs as we are missing 5+ sacks a game. Traore didn’t impress but Burnham did. SEC refs are beyond awful. Phantom roughing calls all over the place and no holding calls on their Oline.

Final score should have been something like 61-3 but we can thank Denbrock and Carr for that and our D for the win. Hope freeman gets in denbrocks face over this. Replace the Ash thread with a Denbrock one.

Did you also tell him you think he regularly sucks and you always rail against him or did you pussy out? And did you tell him you're to ignorant to capitalize the G in his last name when you type it or you just too much of a puss for that as well. Just curious.

With full sincerity I think the solution is to go Buchner on short yardage / goal-to-go and just run the Riley Leonard playbook. The Carr QB draw was BY FAR the best executed red zone play of the day and you could just do that kind of crap all the time with Buchner.

Not arguing, but the only reason that play worked so well is because it was unexpected. If Buchner is in, the whole world knows what's coming like the Wildcat. I agree with short yardage, but not goal-to-go unless it's inside the 3.

I've been saying this for awhile to my ND text message threads...and getting laughed at. But it would work.

In fairness, they knew it was coming last year too.

That was a damn fine win. I predicted we lost this game at the start of the year and ironically just before the game as well.

I gladly eat my crow. 🙄

Whining about a RS Freshman QB who had never had any real reps before this season while ripping one of the most respected OCs in the nation for not being perfect would be like someone proofreading your post and pointing out the typos littering all the hyperbole.

Especially if you aren’t going to throw it very much in that spot.

Yeah but he is fully capable of making normal passes so the defense still has to play it honest same as Leonard

I think you run it in practice and judge how Buchner runs it. A big part of why QB power was so effective with Leonard was his strength but also Riley had that vibe where he was actually willing to die to get the first. Guy would put his body on the line everytime. Man I loved that team.

Objectively the INT that didn’t go for 6 was a worse throw than the one that did. Biles made a freak play on that inside screen pass.

Honestly, neither pick bothered me that much. Their safety did a really nice job on the first one, and only came across the field once Carr had made his read on that side of the field. Obviously, have to be aware of that, but that’s something I’m confident will come with time.
