MSU is by far the softest team on paper. Horrible passing defense, one trick pony on offense. Oklahoma State plays good team defense but you take it with a grain of salt because it's the Big 12 and everyone plays finesse offense. Pitt plays good offense with the best QB.

Pitt in the Peach Bowl would be a slap in the face to this team. Fiesta is a more prestigious game on New Years Day, and it would be "matchmaking" nonsense by the biased committee to put ND versus the lowest ranked ACC team that we see all of the time in the Peach Bowl.

247 Sports has the Irish vs OSU in the Fiesta... my prior post was from CBS Sportsline - Both the Fiesta and Peach are both 'At-Large' teams... of course the Sugar and Rose has commitments to Conferences.

I am not really scared of Oklahoma State, but I think there is no question they are the best of the lot. Baylor has a decent defense and the Pokes were without their main rb. Yet if you watched them play Baylor twice and Bedlam, they were dominate at times. I think it would be great bowl game, but my goal is keeping our momentum into the offseason and that means a bowl win. A result I am more comfortable assuring against Michigan State. Not to mention it’s a better win in a territory we actually recruit from (Michigan vs Oklahoma).

I wonder how opt outs would effect MSU or PItt. Would Walker opt out of the bowl? Would Pickett?

I would assume Walker is more likely than Pickett based on the fact he just came over to MSU as a mercenary. Pickett signed with Pitt out of high school.

EDIT: fixed bad facts.

My fault. I stayed away from the Baylor/Oklahoma State game, but I watched the rest last night. I figured this was Georgia's season and they would take care of business, but they couldn't shake the bad luck once I started watching.

I would like Ok.St. the most. The Big 12 is trash, but highly overrated. That win would be the easiest that would look the best. Then I would take MSU. They are not good, but a win wouldn't move the needle much. Lastly, Pitt in the Peach would be the worst. Pitt is the best of the bunch, but not as highly regarded nationally. Besides, we traditionally struggle with them, even when we are better. Add to it that the Fiesta is a new years day bowl and the peach is not, it is a no brainer. We would gain nothing by beating a good Pitt team, and lose a lot of cred by losing. Bring me the Fiesta against either OK. St or MSU.

How the f*ck do we finish in the top 6 and not make the CFP or a NY6 bowl??? That is bullshit.

If no changes are made to the 4 team playoff model, it appears ND will need an undefeated regular season most years for inclusion.

With NY6 becoming less prestigious, ND needs to reconsider yearly goals for the program. Rivalry trophies and archaic bowl trophies are fun to talk about I guess.

I think if we had had a stronger schedule and didn't lose to the best team on our schedule, we'd still have a shot at 11-1. This year we had a schedule that was basically full of 30-50 teams which, while they're strong teams, isn't as impressive as if we had had a few ranked teams. Wisconsin dropping their last game really hurt our chances.

I would be wholeheartedly against joining a conference, even if it means once in a while we'll be at #5 like this at 11-1.

What am I missing? Aren't we looking at the Fiesta most likely, which is Jan 1st?

That’s what I thought but a lot of posters are saying possibly the Peach Bowl on December 30th.

Peach Bowl is a NY6 bowl. They ‘elevated’ it when the playoff started. It still rings hollow to me, I never considered it important before, or now, frankly.

Did not know that thanks. I feel the same way. I’m really hoping for Fiesta.

I’d rather have the Fiesta bowl, but give me Pitt all day. Historical opponent, and I think they’d be easier than MSU.

We have rivalries with both, and the MSU one has a trophy so that might win lol

If it is the committee choosing the bowl game participants, is it possible they slot Oregon into the Fiesta Bowl as they're more likely to get fans to Phoenix as opposed to Atlanta for the Peach Bowl?

Yes, I think that's their mandate.

I am becoming concerned that ND will get sent to the Peach Bowl because the criteria doesn't appear to account for the fact that ND sees Pitt frequently; just whether they saw each other this year. But if the committee goes back to why they even have criteria for at-large matchups, it's to create the best attendance/viewership. Which means all these things should be factors. ND/Oregon would draw a ton of eyeballs and ND/MSU is a true rivalry not getting played.

I'm still thinking Oregon will be the third at-large.

After getting TROUNCED TWICE, let me repeat, getting TROUNCED TWICE by Utah!?! WTF! If I was an Oregon fan, I sure as hell wouldn't waste me money following them to a bowl game being 10-3 and getting TROUNCED TWICE by Utah!!

Well, now the rumor is that Cristobol is leaving. So that factor would justify ranking MSU over Oregon even if the committee was reluctant to move a team down for losing in its CCG.
