Hahaha

ND doesnt get negative recruited? What a Munson.

Sadly...
Whoever takes over after Franklin tanks another season will have some talent to work with.

Paterno used to whack on ND mercilessly...he recruited kids I played with in PA, and being an ND fan I was sensitive to the chatter...he was a dickhead about ND. So if Franklin is getting a little of what Joe dished out...shrug

McQueary: Bradley told him Schiano came into office "white as a ghost and said he just saw Jerry doing something to a boy in the shower." In the 1990's.

Serious QU, was Sandusky like an awesome coordinator or something? Family friend? Relative? Why would someone go through so much to protect such a twisted crime.

To keep the program thriving. No parent wants to happily send their kids to a school where some dude was raping kids. Even if he was a lower coach.

he was responsible for the "Linebacker U" moniker because he just had a production line of NFL level talent coming out of PSU during his tenure as LB coach and then as DC. Lavar Arrington, Jack Ham etc were some of his products.

He was a well known coordinator. I have a few ND PSU games on DVD and in just about all of them the commentators take time to talk up Sandusky and what a great coach he is (in the moment) and such... there is a real focus on him within multiple broadcasts. Think of him kind of like that era's Kirby Smart, he was well known and not some low level assistant.

My first reaction was different than most - it was sadness. Sadness for all those kids whose lives were destroyed by Sandusky, and sad that a man with such power (Paterno) had the power to stop it DECADES ago and he didn't. It's heartbreaking. I worked with under-privileged children for 15 years, kids in major need of a male role model, and it's a role that is vital for communities in need. Sundusky worked with these same kids. So for me in particular and hopefully everyone, this is and should be absolutely heart-breaking. Nobody deserves that, especially kids...especially kids yearning for some good in their lives. It kills me to even think about it.

My 2nd thought is like everyone else - fuck him. Fuck him forever, and fuck any PSU fan who continues to come to his defense.

The best thing for the Paterno family to do is just STFU. Simply because witnesses are dead doesn't mean it didn't happen. If there is proof to contradict a couple of these stories, then why hasn't it been brought forth?

IDK the details but if Schiano is guilty of something, I'd love to see OSU can him. I want their DL.

still curious how/why former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert's child molestation case didn't/doesn't get more publicity.

It seems like just about everybody knew. It's so disgusting. How many more kids were abused because no one was willing to do anything for DECADES?

People have their blindspots and their devotions that allow this to be overlooked. I am reminded of the pedophile priest scandal, but, of course, that is on a much more massive scale both on the abusers but also on those who overlooked or hid it.

As NDin LA said:

Jury awards Mike McQueary $7.3 million in defamation case against Penn State - CBSSports.com

by Robby Kalland 1h ago

A jury has found in favor of former Penn State quarterback and assistant coach Mike McQueary in his defamation and misrepresentation case against the school. McQueary was awarded $7.3 million by the jury on Thursday.
The judgment was delivered after less than four hours of deliberation, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, following a two-week trial.

In 2001, McQueary gave an eyewitness report to the Penn State administration of what he believed to be a case of sexual abuse by former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky. McQueary was placed on leave from his coaching duties in November 2011 following the arrest of Sandusky, four days before coach Joe Paterno was fired.

...

In his testimony last week, McQueary said Penn State "threw me under the bus" for cooperating with the Sandusky investigation. He also claimed the school made him out to be a scapegoat for the eventual sanctions that were placed on the program -- and later removed -- by the NCAA, and that he's been unable to find a job since because of how he was portrayed by the schoo

Feds investigating Sandusky fine Penn State a record $2.4M | Fox News

Published November 03, 2016 Associated Press

Federal officials looking into how Penn State handled complaints about Jerry Sandusky slapped the school with a record $2.4 million fine on Thursday, saying it violated requirements about reporting campus crimes and warning people if their safety is threatened.

The fine was the result of a five-year investigation that began shortly after Sandusky was arrested in 2011, raising questions about what administrators had known about the former assistant football coach, now serving decades in prison for child molestation.

The U.S. Department of Education concluded that Penn State largely ignored many of its duties under the 1990 Clery Act.

...

It's not enough.

Good for him. Judge has final say on actual award, but 7.3mil would mean he wouldn't have to worry about working again.

wasn't this the guy that walked in on Sandusky doing a kid in the shower...and he just ran off.

Yea he later told JoePA what he saw...but he left that kid, being sodomized. How exactly does that qualify you for $7M?

Didn't it have something to do with Penn State dragging his name through the mud? I'm sure this whole thing has probably affected his career. To the tune of $7M? I don't know. You'd like to see more of this cash going towards the victims, but at the end of the day Paterno and the big wigs at Ped State were denying everything for a long time or keeping it under the rug. McQueary later said he made sure that Sanduskty backed away from the kid. The guy's life has been ruined as part of this trial. He's living with his parents, wife left him, and pretty sure he's unemployed. He said he also notified authorities. Don't know what all is true and what may have been added to his story later, but at least he was willing to be a witness and make sure the charges stuck. It's too bad the NCAA lost their balls and nearly removed all the sanctions in the end. Those wins should have remained removed.

I don't recall hearing he broke it up, or later notified authorities...I'll take your word for it.

I'm still concerned he didn't take the kid out of Sandusky's presence, and call the cops on the spot. I'd like to think I would have done more had I been in his shoes. Still...no one knows how they'd react if they saw that I guess....and he did indeed see it through. I'll cut him some slack.

$7M is a ton...if Art Briles hires him at his next stop...does he give any of that money back?

Yeah, I don't think they said anything about that in the beginning, but in the trial Wiki it says: "McQueary later said he made sure the observed assault stopped before he left, and that he discussed the incident with police." Whether he added that part later after questions arose, I don't know. I think it's important that he testified though, even if it took so long for the the truth to come out, when so much of the Penn State brass were trying to keep things quiet and hide the facts. I'm sure McQueary realized it was going to jeopardize his job and furthermore his career by testifying, he opted to do the right thing I think. It would be nice to see him put some of that money toward a victim fund. I agree that $7M is quite a bit here, even if no one hires him in the future.
