Everyone really should be cheering for Wazzu and Oregon State, right? For obvious reasons.
I, for one, am glad to see this conference break up so that we get more of *checks notes*:

+ UCLA - Rutgers
+ Stanford - Virginia
+ Oregon - Maryland
+ Arizona State - Cincinnati

Interesting conversation on The College Football Enquirer. Ross Dellinger was talking about the different options that the PAC 2 have and are tossing around. One of the options that is being seriously considered is a merger with The Mountain West and them developing a relegation concept. Introducing that into college sports would be pretty crazy but he made a point that they need to do something pretty crazy/unique to survive as a conference.

I picked Washington to win the PAC 12 and I still think they're the best team. I don't know how real Oregon is. SC has Caleb so they're going to have a chance so long as the defense shows some progress and improves.

I continue to hope for Wazzu and Oregon State to do the most damage. If it means keeping someone out of a bowl game, ruining playoff chances, keeping someone from winning the conference along with their own success than so be it.

Said it in the prime thread, but UCLA DC D'Anton Lynn has the Bruins playing top end defense this year. First year DC. Anthony Lynn's son.

He's probably going to be back in The League before too long. Very good hire by Chip Kelly.

We will see. I have a feeling Oregon State is going to put up 50 on them this Saturday. He might get fired after the game. That crowd at Reser Stadium is crazy and the Beavers defense will likely look better than UCLA's. Oregon State is looking like a powerhouse this year and I sure hope we don't get matched up against them in a bowl game. Even their backup QB is a stud.

I'll be honest, the chances of me coming up with anything clever were out the window when I was reading up on these conferences this year.

I'm glad there isn't an AAC thread.

Need to be at 8 teams, they're surely going to want 10-12.

Other than the Big Sky Conference, the FCS doesn't have much of a West Coast presence.

Washington State and Oregon State sticking to their guns is gonna be the domino that puts ND in the B1G

There's a thought.

New Pac12 has to steal at least two more from somewhere. Maybe the two random ACC defectors lawyer their way back to local pastures. Maybe FSU and Clemson are so mad at the league that they use the Pac resurgence as leverage to go elsewhere.

Either way, this puts the ACC on notice.

The ACC on notice puts ND on notice.

ND on notice joins the B1G with one more big shift, imo

It's certainly possible. I don't know that FSU and Clemson go to the PAC 12 out of spite, but at this point, you can never say never.

FSU and Clemson would rather pay Fresno and Boise State more money and deal with all that travel over shouldering the burden for UNC, UVA etc? I don't think so

Didn't mean they would join the resurgent Pac12, just that another round of realignment might push them over the edge to try and get elsewhere.

If that happens, and they're expanding the B1G or SEC again, and the ACC loses their non-ND marquee programs, ND has no reason to honor their ACC deal, and imo would join the B1G to avoid getting left behind in what would be the "final" landscape [for now].

Not a prediction as much as a thought experiment... and it's just funny to me that the landscape is shifting again because the Cougars and Beavers maintained enough pettiness (and monetary interest).

Huge for North and South Dakota State. Probably our last shot at moving up (into MWC)

Yeah, they'll want to get to at least 12 for stability.

Gotta think the old G5 teams will have to be ripe pickings. Tulsa could be a good contender. North Texas, Rice, UTSA may be targets. New Mexico State could be up there. UTEP and Sam Houston are also CUSA possibilities. Maybe a Texas State. I'm assuming no other Mountain West schools are targets at this time since all new PAC-12 members are from there, I'd think if more were on board they would have announced them with the other 4.

During Pac-12 media days in Las Vegas in July, Gould hosted media members, administrators, coaches and players for a gathering to celebrate the conference, projecting a bright future and suggesting a potential rebuild.

“There’s a lot of interest in having a high-level conference rooted on the West Coast,” she told Yahoo Sports then. “There’s a lot of interest in our communities and fan bases. A lot of people care deeply about the Pac-12 and Pac-12 brand. There is a lot of nostalgia about the possibility of a rebuild.”

Again, geography doesn't matter, but if they really want it to be West Coast based they don't have a ton of options.

Memphis, Tulane, South Florida and UTSA have reaffirmed their commitment to the American Athletic Conference, the universities and conference announced Monday, spurning interest from the Pac-12 to join that rebuilding conference.
