Before Feb. 1st. that good enough answer?

Way to step out on that ledge..... Freaking hilarious. I could make the claim the sun is gonna come up before Feb. 1st and I'm pretty sure it'll happen. You kill me brah.... lol Would it be any different than your proclamation? Um....no.

Moving on.

The "great news" is that Bruce Heggie is now 8'6" and weighs 589 pounds, all this while running a 3.8 40 and shirking his weight-lifting duties to bench press SUVs.

That's just, well............ridiculous(no pun intended). Everyone knows, at that size, his best 40 time would be 3.9!

GB has had some pretty good insight on everything. He can't be certain when a recruit might commit or whatever though. He might know the basic timeline though.

I haven't seen this board this irate since the Michigan game.... well maybe the Tulsa game...

But seriously, this is recruiting. Do any of you claim to know more about football than Brian Kelly?

If so, gtfo or chill out..

I have faith in Kelly, and I personally believe this is good news with regards to Jarron Jones.

Excellent post Turning Point... I wish people would just appreciate your rationale more..

hahaha....That's fine by me beau. Quite frankly, I could care less. I'm of old school thinking quite frankly. I wish it was like days past where come fall ball, tell me who shows up new and we roll with them. I think the internet ruins a lot of that quite frankly... The need for information 24/7/365 has put these kids on a pedestal and they run with it in grandstanding fashion.

That said.... Give me 85 kids that want to work and live the ND lifestyle and I'm in... I don't need any "insider" information as to what 17-18 kids are thinking/saying. It's almost as creepy as following the kids on facebook/myspace.

100% agree.. It's tiring arguing over un-proven kids.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of a college football team (just like the draft is for the NFL). You have to build a championship team they don't magically apear out of thin air. You may not enjoy this particular aspect of college football but many here do and thus it gets followed rather voraciously.

You made a key point here.... lifeblood of A College Football Team. I don't recall seeing your name or any other poster's names here on the roster or coaching staff. I agree that "the process" is a part of the lifeblood of each program, but do we as fans necessarily have to be a part of it??? I think not. We don't get a vote on who comes and who doesn't.... Teams do what they do without our input quite frankly, so why get all worked up over it. That said, I find it even creepier that people find it necessary to send these kids messages via social media, thus thrusting themselves into the process to come to their school. Should this be part of the lifeblood of recruiting?

while I was playing football for a small naia school, which is nothing compared to this of course, but still the same it's still college ball our coach would always sit us down after the season and every year he would tell us we will become a great team with the 70 guys we have in here now, sure there might be a few that come in and start from day one but in reality that's rare, so while we can sit here and hype up these kids i'm going out on a limb and saying the guys sitting in the nd locker room are the ones who are going to bring us to the top, not the kids sitting in a high school class room worrying about which abercrombie shirt to wear or which backwards hat they want to put on. these kids might be important for our future, but I prefer to live in the now and with the guys we currently have actually on our roster.

I agree with the bolded parts. But I disagree that we shouldn't care about recruiting. But there is a major flaw in the rest of your arguement. We don't have say in the games (well to the best of my knowledge no players or coaches are on here) but we still care about and watch the games. We still get upset about bad plays and bad losses (please tell me I wasn't the only one screaming at the TV when we played Michigan, Michigan St, and Tulsa, well and Navy too). What is the difference? I can't control either but I still care about both. I am not saying that I know more than Coach Kelly or any other coach, just that as fans we are allowed to be passionate about ND football, be that recruiting or the games.

Recruiting is important. But is it really that important, that people are already arguing about NEXT YEAR'S recruits, with the CURRENT season just about a month away? How about we spend our time discussing THIS COMING season?

I like Brian Kelly, and I think he is the right man for the job; BUT, his riverboat gambling style sometimes drives me nuts. Like the throw to Floyd, in the Tulsa game. If he wants to take a shot, fine. I don't agree with it, when you are playing a true freshman QB, but calling the play is a gamble I can live with. What drove me absolutely nuts about it, was Kelly's comments after the game. Rees had very clear instructions, when the play was called: if Floyd draws man coverage, chuck it up there and let him go get it. An egomaniacal risk, if you ask me. So, having thrown that out there:

What's the over/under on the number of games that Kelly blows, by taking completely unnecessary risks, this year? 1.5?

I see where you're coming from. But these posters and the fans do get a vote-- every time they open their checkbooks and wallets to buy ND apparel, tickets, donations, and tune in on the TV to watch. This wouldn't be a billion dollar industry it weren't for the "voters." Obviously I don't mean to imply that because the overwhelming members on here and across ND Nation wanted Tommy Schutt...then by damn, we should get him. But I think you see my point.

As far as the people sending messages to high school kids they want to go to a certain school...well yeah-- these people are quite creepy and have WAY too much time on their hands,

The social media thing is creepy, no question, on everything else I disagree. Saying "Why should we care about recruiting? We have no part in it as fans" is much the same as saying "why care about who your NFL team drafts? We have no part in it!". Beyond that point though (and much more importantly), is the fact that I like it. It is something football related that I enjoy following and talking about. It makes the off season go by much faster and is the reason I enjoy college ball more than the NFL.

Out of curiosity, anybody know the record on this site for most one day traffic and/or posts in a day (excluding signing day)?! I wonder where these last 24 hours would fit in? Ha!

A $30 dollar t-shirt doesn't give you a vote on who coach Kelly recruits to ND

Nobody said it did. You missed the point.

No, I understand what you're saying... I just respectfully disagree

We're fans, or "voters" as you stated, it's just...

I trust Brian Kelly, he has FORGOTTEN more about CFB coaching than I know, so while it may have pissed me off we didn't take Schutt...

I'm not going to sit here and tell you that I could make a difference.

I buy the ND apparel because I'm a fan, a supporter of all things ND.

I don't expect a "say", or a "vote" in the matter

1. Damn I guess I missed a good thread before stuff got deleted lol..

2. To the responses to my original post....im trying to go in order so sorry if its confusing haha..

Woolybug25 said "I would rather have Schutt than another WR..... any WR other than DGB. You take a kid like this and worry about the details later. That's just my opinion... but I would be willing to bet that it is also the opinion of almost every consistent program. Saban, Stoops, Meyer, etc would have all found a place for a top 10 DT."

---yeah you take a top 10 DT...I feel you and i was speechless when i got the news saying we took Schutts verbal away. But look at it this way...Like I said before Day can play inside and outside. Dominated The Opening. Schutt plays inside only and didnt want to play Guard. Schutt had PLENTY of time and opportunities to verbal way before Day even got an offer and started to do well on the camp circuit. Trust me, I would love to see Schutt/Day/Jarron or Armstead be added in this class. Also, with Michigan turning away.....there might be a little more to it?? Martin graduates from Michigan this year...they def need a NG/DT....Somethings up if MICHIGAN doesnt want the #29/top 10 Dline guy....Am I not right? lol.

As far as Chris Brown and the WRs...its a need. Floyd is gone. GA3/DaVaris yet to prove anything. TJ had a nice start to the season, but disappeared at the end and has a lot to work through just on his personal life coming into this. (thoughts and prayers still going out to the Jones family. Theo showed flashes and was damn good but.....can he stay healthy??? Toma unproven. Daniel Smith unproven. Goodman?? Smith/DD/GA3 and TJ to a point are all made for the outside. TJ I can see working the slot but he showed he is a legit deep threat. But they all play outside. Greenberry/Ferguson are made for the outside. We need to start getting some quality depth at the slot. To build forward. Right now we got a lot of athletes playing the slot/wr. I am with you though Chris Brown wouldnt be my first choice, but there is no denying has a lot of talent.

Scott Daly---- Yeah who needs a longsnapper right? Yeah till that extra point snap shoots over the holders head and we lose by one. Or snap shoots over Kyle/Turks head for a safety....no one knows Jordan Cowarts name...Im sure some have never even heard it...but I bet you he has a nice NFL career. Kid has been probably the most consistent player on the team for the last 2 years including Michael Floyd. So yeah Scott Daly is VITAL to this class.

4 kickers--- I like you GBDomer but Tausch was solid till Ruffer happened. Then why wouldnt you sign a kid from Michigan who WANTED to go to ND...who lived and breathed ND football with one of the strongest legs to come out of high school in a long time?? Everyone b*tches about Turks punts 75% of the time...so I ask again why wouldnt you sign someone who can hit field goals/add competition to the punt game and most importantly add to the kickoff game. All of which ND has lacked greatly for quite sometime. I dont think I need to remind people of Syracuse a few years ago....sure that was a long as hell FG attempt but Id love to have someone who has a legit chance to make it rather on relying on pure luck of a kid you know doesnt have distance.

IrishLax--thanks for the post....i can tell you DID think it through and it was def well educated. Here my counter...

--they are requirements like you said for those positions....but you list all the players I listed and agreed that you would like to have them over Schutt at the end. Yes we have Ishaq/Councell/Niklas/Perkins and possibly Okwara all slated at OLB. (I think Okware ends up at DE) But, how do you think Bama/Ohio St/Fla/Sc have great Ds year in and out....They can shelf a 4-5 star kid for 2 years...then when kids leave/graduate they reload. This is what is different now....Kelly is building a team for the FUTURE as well as the present. Prime example...Louis Nix....he could have def been used last yr and in all honesty he could have played quality mins last year even with his weight. Yet, we sat him, let him change his body/mindset/outlook...and hes gonna be a hell of a player for it. Now look at Ian Williams. VERY good DT for us...yet he wasnt ready his frosh year and debatable his soph year. Imagine if we had depth where we could have sat Ian for a year....let him get his body to where he was capable of playing at a high D1 level.

Ifeadi is a talent. Size and Speed. Yet hes 215...imagine getting him...and with Ishaq/Councell/Spond/Shembo all infront of him...Hes not forced to play early...he gets up to a healthy 230-235 in 2 to 3 years...Ishaq leaves early, and Councell doesnt pan out....we got a possibility of a bigtime player in Ifeadi where hes NOT overwhelmed when starts his first game. I would take that over having a Schutt type player where if he doesnt pan out at DT he is another Stockon...where you cant really move him and hope the light turns on. Ifeadi doesnt pan out at OLB, he can be used as a pass rusher, or aka Steve Filer in a sp teams role where he just fits.

That leads me to the Turner situation. Championship teams are built through 4-5stars who turn into superstars and first round picks....but they also have the Scott Dalys and the "bennett jackson" guy on sp teams. You get kids who want to be at ND bc they understand it as well as will do anything just to get on the field reguardless of snaps. Turner has the skill set to be a sp teams nightmare as well as a formidable safety with time. ND has had the Mike Anellos/David Brutons/Bennett Jacksons/Steve Filers on sp teams. Sure we give up a big one but at the sametime we get TOs on sp teams.

All in all Kelly is building a team. Weis was building NFL players which leads to winning games in some cases or it leads to what got him the door out. I love Weis, and I loved following recruiting when he was here. But his downfall was he got the elite kids to come, or at least listen...but then when he didnt get them we were falling back on kids that you knew werent going to play or couldnt find home anywhere. Kelly is finding kids at worst can impact the game on sp teams. We are getting QUALITY depth. QUALITY athletes that can play multiple positions. Which leads to elite talent NOT having to be thrown into the fire their freshmen year. Its NOT a bad thing to not have to play a 5 star kid right off the bat. In fact itd be a nice change to get a 4-5star kid and see him grown for a year or two. I mean Kelly has proven over and over he can develop. aka Brian Smith/Harrison Smith....I mean imagine them in 4/5 years of Kelly and Co. Not being switched around constantly and being taught 1 defense, 1 scheme, 1 position, 1 technique....i think theyd be pretty damn good like we saw glimpses of.

I went out before this thread started. When I read it when I got home it made me want to set myself on fire.

Can we relax a little? We're not through the first week of August and our 2012 class is nearly 2/3 full. We're in good shape. Breathe easy.
