The golden generation in swimming is done now. We are still great, but the days of getting 16 gold medals in the pool with the next closest nation having 3 or 4 is done.
Only until the next Phelps comes around

All of his records have already been beaten. How crazy does that seem?

Bonkers - watching him medal that French kid when he beat his record was pretty awesome. Looks like Frenchie has a lot of room to get stronger and faster too.

Crazy, yes. But every year they make pools faster from ripple proof barriers, better spring boards at the start and better water chemistry which makes it faster and there suits and goggles have improved. Training techniques have changed a lot as well.
That's why you see more broken records in swimming then any other sport.

Which is why it's surprising that this pool is so slow. No WRs at this Olympics (yet?) and, Pat Forde pointing out the below (0 for 9, now).

This was really an in depth column.

2 things...

1. We need to make Olympic sports a bigger deal in college sports

2. Stop letting all these foreigners come over and train in our world class facilities only to complete against the US

Edit- we can let women's volleyball players come

Agree on both points. What the heck are foreign athletes doing at Colorado Springs?

Crying about scholarships to foreigners will end the millisecond another Claypool is getting recruited out of Canada.

College football and basketball probably do more to support Olympic sports than anybody.

Can't wait to lose FB scholarships because we added synchronized swimming or BMX dancing. :p

Katie Ledecky is a stone cold killer. Second place was 10 seconds behind her.

I'm wondering if this or next summer games will be the last where USA dominates as an affect of these scholarship changes coming.

An Algerian boxer who was born male and was banned from women's boxing last year due to having XY chromosomes and a high testosterone level was allowed to compete as a woman in Paris. His Italian opponent took two brutal punches, the first breaking the chin strap on her head gear and the second breaking her nose, and was forced to quit. She said she'd never been hit that hard before. Is this what you on the left really want in women's sports? Biological males, with all the attendant bone structure and muscle mass, injuring women? Sports if supposed to be about fair competition. We segregate contestants into size or experience or other categories to prevent such overmatches. This allowing of males into women's sports has to end. It's blatantly unfair to women athletes and it's going to end up getting someone seriously injured.

Yeah, this dude is competing as a female boxer. He must be so proud of his win.

Agree with your point. This is a sports ethics question, not a political discussion though.

Or, you could take a second to understand the issue so you don't come off as an uninformed moron who just parrots hateful messages because he's too ignorant to actually think before he posts. Do you think that someone born in rural Algeria who competes for Algeria who allows for no such transgender treatments or identification on government ID's is going to "trans" themselves to compete?

She was born with a genetic disorder that causes her to produce testosterone at level's similar to those of biological males. But, you didn't actually care to read into it before coming off as a bigot. If you wanted to sound like a person who actually cares about "women's sports" you would say that the IOC should revise their testosterone testing procedures instead of being transphobic)

(This is a prime example of someone posting their hateful messages, this is the time for those that want to bemoan both sides to step in and actually call out the bad faith poster - will that happen?)

As usual, you're wrong. He has tested positive for having an XY chromosome makeup. This isn't just a hormone imbalance issue. He was born male. He's a dude. Period.

It already happened with respect and class. I know you hate the poster but it appears you are calling for the mob to derail the whole thread again to appease you.

I echo InKellyWeTrust.

Can you tell me what her birth certificate says?

Respect and class lmao Bishop misgendered on purpose and made it political the second he said "those on the left".

Take away the crux of the issue being his ignorance. He doesn't even respect this forum if he's posting shit trying to stir up a political discussion on a non-political thread, but yeah I'm the bad guy FOH.

The problem with Americans is we view everything from the prism of our own political landscape. There are quite a few cases of world class athletes whose genders don’t fit easily into either male or female. The runner Caster Semenya comes to mind. According to Wiki:

Although Semenya was assigned female at birth,[18][19] she has the intersex condition 5α-Reductase 2 deficiency (5-ARD).[10][11][18] This condition only affects genetic males with XY chromosomes. Individuals with 5-ARD have normal male internal structures that are not fully masculinised during the development of the reproductive system in utero, due to low levels of the hormone dihydrotestosterone(DHT). As a result, the external genitalia may appear ambiguous or female at birth.

The International organizations have tried to come up with some standards for these types of individuals and I really don’t know what the right answer is but I do know these individuals aren’t a bunch of left leaning liberals and they have nothing to do with people like Lia Thompson.

That said, I have know idea about the boxer in question.

I don't have access to his birth certificate. Given that genetic testing shows he has XY chromosomes, we can safely assume it probably says male. Whether it does or doesn't is irrelevant. If I own a dog but list it as a cat, does that make it a cat? Of course not. It's a dog regardless of what I or anyone else calls it. The Algerian boxer has XY chromosomes. He's a biological male. You can call him a girl, a pine tree, a rock, or a lightbulb for all I care. That just makes you as deluded as he is.

Fake news

You better check your sources. The following is from The Guardian, a rather left leaning British news source. You can also use Google and see that he was indeed tested last year and had XY chromosomes.

Imane Khelif of Algeria and Lin Yu‑ting of Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) were disqualified from the 2023 women’s world championships with the International Boxing Association president, Umar Kremlev, saying DNA tests had “proved they had XY chromosomes and were thus excluded”.

BTW, your source for that bit is just an X user, not any sort of news source with any credentials whatsoever. He's just posting his opinion without any evidence. Numerous legit news outlets and the IBA say actual DNA tests confirm he's an XY male.
