Can't believe that guy is still in that position. He has a nose for landmines and big feet.

Gordon Gee is the man. This is such a non-story.

I used to hate Gee and generally think of him as a buffoon, but after reading some of the stuff Buster said, and actually having to stay in Columbus for two weeks (work), he is very good at his job.

Football sanctions aside, the sheer amount of growth of OSU under his tenure is impressive. Not only should OSU feel fortunate to have him as an AD, but the city of Columbus owe that man a great deal of gratitude.

I like the one where they asked him if Tressell would be terminated and this ensued, "Wearing a scarlet-and-gray-striped bow tie, Gee, typically a flamboyant speaker, flatly praised Tressel's "superb integrity." As Gee backed away from the mic, a reporter started to ask whether dismissing Tressel had ever crossed his mind.

"No -- are you kidding?" Gee interrupted. He sputtered for a second, searching for a one-liner to break the tension. "Let me be very clear," he said. "I'm just hoping the coach doesn't dismiss me."

Yeah...the man!

Funny non-story. What cracks me up is he uses Twitter.

Well I doubt he sends out 90% of his tweets. He's got people for that. I took this tweet differently than people who haven't met him would, the response showed his affability and unique humility he have, even if it's another person representing his brand. He's a really awesome guy to talk to.

When it comes to sports, Gee is all about pumping up the "Buckeye Pride" factor and then monetizing the hell out of it, to then spend on construction. Twitter is part of that Pride portfolio.

Again... a man's actions mean more than their words. He says some dumb stuff, no doubt, but that city owes a great deal of their growth (the new health facility is impressive by any city's standards) to Gee. His fundraising, networking and general business knowledge outweighs any of these small blunders in lead.

Yeah people who know Gee's life can easily see that he only sees the football program as a source of revenue (back to that pride thing). So he's just constant worship. I'm obviously not the biggest fan of it, but you can't argue with the monetary results. He's a university President who's genuinely in it for the students and school, not the football team.

Unfortunately on this one all I know are his words, I'll defer to those of you who know him better and keep an open mind.

oh no
please dont get Buster Bluth going again on this guy :)...not around NSD...no matter what you say about Gordon Gee, Buster will have a response, defense, article link, you tube link, meme, gif, tweet in Gees defense.
its not pretty, and sometimes exhausting:) he will always get the last word in his defense of him and his fundraising acumen and how he singlehandedly saved the ohio state university from extinction.
i give him credit for the zeal in which he defends this guy, not sure why he does it but he does and he will.

It's getting rather massive. It's going to put Columbus on the medical world map. >$1.2 billion spent in just this project tends to do that haha

Ah the classic "well Buster will just defend him regardless" argument. Never mind that I am first in line to rip the football program, I couldn't possibly be unbiased on anything else huh?

Why do we care about OSU's president or its campus? This argument comes up every time OSU's president says something dumb. The thread becomes a debate as to his ability as a President.

It's weird. We talk about a non-rivals President more than our rival's Athletic Director. Because of this site, I know Gordon Gee's name but I had to look up David Brandon's name. (Probably because when I see the term "Michigan's AD" the name next to it turns into Douchey Mcdouche.)

I don't know about you all, but I didn't bother reading the article when I saw the link about halfway down the page on the right, where it has two sexy ladies in bikinis and it's titled:

Paulina Gretzky, daughter of Wayne, winner of Instagram

I don't know guys, but it was hard not clicking on that article. But I was rewarded with more pictures...Ahh

Ummm... yeah

hahah seriously

It goes both ways. Sooooo many people are willing to immediately throw out the endless accounts of people saying that Manti Te'o is an absolute mensch in favor of him being a lying scumbag/closet homosexual/pathological liar, and yet here we are hatin' on a guy who says stupid things about something most people on the planet would consider stupid anyway--sports. We get so bent out of shape over the little things.

Sports these days, I don't even know. I was never a fan of the "sportsmanship" malarkey people tried to instill in you as a youngster (I was a dirty player and quite mean), so I'm not going on that tangent, but sports commercialization has really dumbed down society lately. Maybe I'm just becoming cognizant of it, but it's all pretty trivial in the end and it's turned us into a nation of mindless haters.

Bill Maher had a great take on American Masculinity a few days ago:

Red-blooded American males whose mood on Saturdays is dependent on how well a 20-year-old kid tackles a 19-year-old kid. Middle-aged guys who wear replica jerseys with the name and number of their favorite boyfriend — I mean, player. Guys who get in fights with other guys in other replica jerseys over whose 20-year-old is better.

Is the relationship American men have with their sports heroes really any less weird than the one Manti had with his "girlfriend"? Guys sitting on the couch all day, watching some figures on a screen toss around a dot?

You're not a fan; you're a cat!

While I don't even care enough to touch that Maher quote...

I will say that sportsmanship is important, always has been, always will be, and just because you view it as "malarkey" doesn't mean it's unimportant or wrong at all.
