Let's be critical of everyone, players, referees, coaches, crowd noise, after one game.

My feelings for the defensive coaches were like that last year and they did nothing to change those feelings. However (and I posted this earlier in the Nevada thread) I'm ready to move forward and see this team excel for the rest of the season. I know they have it in them. Go Irish!

Trumbetti gets worse every year it seems, or at least not better. Tillery looks the same as last year after one game, Rochelle the same. Day looked good, Jones looked worse. I just don't see improvement. Love to be wrong though if they change it around!

...Wut?

Koon you have to be drunk.

1. I agree about Trumbetti. Mind boggling with all his talent.

2. Rochelle the same? You are drunk. Rochelle had a near dominant game. NFL scouts raved about his performance and according to NFL.com his stock is up after the first week. He forced the poor throw on the int by getting pressure. IMO he was our best defender.

3. Day looked good? I'm sorry I have no idea, I didn't watch the Jaguars game, please tell how he played.

4. Jones looked worse? It was his first full game back in over a year. He also blocked the extra point that ND scores 2 points on.

The only defender that had a NFL performance was Malik Jefferson. How many plays did Rochelle make? I meant Cage, not Day. Jarron Jones looked worse than he did in 2014, yes. I'm watching now and stand by that more than I did when I said it initially above.

Not drunk, just not wearing the same colored glasses as you.

Classic Koon trolling. How many plays did Rochelle make? Tons. He graded out VERY high and multiple outlets wrote glowing things about him. One draft scout singled him out with a handful of guys from across CFB for "stock up."

If you're going by that standard than there were only a handful of NFL performances across the NCAA last weekend. He may be the best college linebacker I've ever seen.

Lol Koon.

Rochelle was a beast Sunday. 9 tackles, a bunch of hurries that led to the only turnover.

Jarron Jones looks worst than 2014. Can we give him a few games to get back into game shape and a rhythm.

Thanks for the kind words.

How many TFL and sacks did Rochelle have? Serious question - I cannot find any individual defensive stats.

I don't really care how many tackles happend 5 yards down the field. Since the NFL is apparently all over him after week 1, I imagine he was fairly disruptive against a freshman/sophomore OL and registered sacks and/or TFL's.

No sacks, but again it's hard to get pressure on a AB when the ball is out in under 2 seconds.

He did disrupt the QB which led to the INT. That's a huge play.

Rochell had 2.5 TFL, that's a solid day of work. I'd argue he had another 2-3 right at the LOS for no gain to 1-2 yards.

You act like great defenders have to make all their stops behind the LOS, haave 2 sacks, and for a fumble every game. Rochell had an amazing game. The stats, scouts, and many other football fans all support this idea, but once again Koon (and his untrained eye) disagrees.

He had 2.5 TFLs? Can you post a link to that? That's actually really good and I'd take that every game out of him if I could. If that's true I'll eat my words.

Thanks Guys. Rochelle played good then, I take it back. The DL as a whole, though, I'm not yet ready to annoint Gilmore. Overall they were pushed around by underclassmen, and we're supposed to have some significant talent among Rochelle, Tillery, Trumbetti, and Jarron Jones. Rochelle played well, the rest were I won't say it.

Maybe Rochell should be moved to RG? Colin was sub par and then all the Rochell talk would belong here.

Geez Koon, Day? Alford? The frustration is showing. Step away from the keyboard, get in that crawlspace for a couple of minutes then come back.

Why do our lines always get pushed around

I said a long time ago that our run blocking is up and down under Heistand. Pass blocking is second to none as is his recruiting. We're definitely getting beaten in the trenches here though, and it's really hurting our running game. It's forcing us to put the entire game on the QB position.

I'd say the reason for this is Kelly likes having a pass first offense. I'd be shocked if we spend as much time and energy working on the run game as we do the passing game.

Sorry but that's a stupid comment.

With that said the OL is not playing well today.

his seat should be getting very warm

Can't blame Harry for a part of the offense that doesn't exist under Kelly. Kelly likes to throw the ball down the field. The wet field and the wet footballs have made it more difficult to throw deep. Kelly doesn't like to run the ball for 4-5 yards at a time. It isn't in his DNA. Right now that stubbornness has us behind by 3 with a big goose egg on the scoreboard.
