Really wanted 40, disappointed. Oh well.

Imagine if I told you immediately after last season that next year you would be disappointed because we only beat North Carolina on the road by 23 and only won 33-10.

We're in a good place halfway through the season. I can rest easy through the bye week.

Edit: Want to be clear I'm not talking to you individually, but in the broader sense. I found myself a little disappointed too at first.. just amazing how quickly expectations can change (and that's a good thing!)

I asked before but got nothing...

Anything happen to Adams that he didn't play the second half? I didn't see the first half so I didn't see anything.

It was always the dumbest, worst opinion and the funny thing is most of those people probably won't even man up and eat their crow.

Book is the better passer, by far. He's not the running threat that Wimbush is, but Wimbush has a long way to go in developing into a complete QB. Having Book as a viable QB option will present issues for USC.

Book's passing game is almost identical to Sam Darnold. Darnold's completions are mostly short outs, crosses, and dump offs. USC sees what happens when an offense can pick defenses apart with running and short passes.

What crow is there to eat?

Damn near every runner for the Irish has an ankle injury.

Probably just resting him.

Nothing that I saw. Think they're probably just trying to be conservative keeping everyone healthy for usc

Didn't have audio but yeah, they were looking at him. Didn't look serious.

So Quentin Nelson, Adams, and Nyles Morgan all got hurt. Any updates on whether they're injured? Nyles looked like it could be a collar bone, which would be awful

I don't know. Book is a fine back-up but don't see how he really presents any more of a problem for USC in the pass game than Wimbush. 4.7 yards per attempt is terrible.

It is 4.7 per attempt not per completion (it was about 8.6 per completion).

I think that Book looked decent for his first game.

On the other hand I can say that the WRs aren't very good. Mack seems to fight the ball when catching it and ESB isn't aggressive enough when the ball is in the air. He waits for the ball to get to him instead of attacking it. In fact our WRs in most if not all of the games this year have struggled to get separation against man coverage.

USC lost to WSU, had trouble (for one half) against Cal, and struggled against WMU and Texas. Their D has great athletes, but in the games I watched, they struggled against good short-passing games.

Yeah, fixed it. Dang typo. 4.7 per attempt is awful. Only 3 teams in the country are worse. We weren't exactly great statistically before today (6 yards per pass attempt vs. 7.14 per rush). Not really trying to back on Ian, as he did some nice things. All in all, think he could do enough to win games if Wimbush is out any more.

STL was a little harsh. Book is definitely a better passer than BW, but the Darnold comparison goes a bit far i think lol. He's got zip, was able to successfully throw into double coverage, and against his body back across the field accurately. Pretty good to have a backup that can do that on the road in his first start. He did have a few bad ones too. But for a first game, I'll take it.

BW is a better overall threat, and I believe he will come along in the passing game. But again, extremely happy to have a backup of his caliber.

I guess we have a different view of our passing game, just don't see us with a "good short-passing game" at this time. No matter who has lined up under center.

To those saying that book is a better passer:

I didnt see the first half, but looking at the stats would say that this is just not true. Talkign to a few people watching the game, it seemed that he locked in on one guy and that was it. 17/31 isnt great at all and his yards are very unimpressive. Not to mention the guy threw 2 picks including one in the red zone.

If Wimbush had this game, no way you guys would be saying he was a better passer than Book, I dont care what you say.

He had one good drive. Any other success today was our run game, per usual.

He throws with more confidence than Wimbush, other than that I don’t see the discernible edge to call him a better passer.

A win is a win. Surpassed last year’s win total so that’s a positive

FWIW, I don't like Darnold. I think he's great in short-to-medium passing, but horrible going long. He has superior athletes to throw to, however, and they bail him out a lot.

It is nice having a good back-up. I just hope that BW doesn't start to look over his shoulder, as that can really hurt his development. Kelly will have to handle this situation more delicately than with Kiser and Zaire.

No, you're right. We have a "serviceable" short-passing game. It can get good, though.

Hopefully.
