Sagarin ranks MIA's opponents:

WINS

1AA FA&M #236

FAU #150

APP St #63

GT#45

LOSSES

FSU #13

UNC #34

VT #21

NEXT GAME

ND #42

This week's Sagarin Predictor would have MIA -4 in South Bend.

So since the home team always get's +3, then Miami is really a touchdown and and PAT favorite.

VT QB Evans threw for 259 yds and ran for 98.

MIA QB threw for 323 yds and was -55 yds rushing getting sacked 8 times.

Matchup MIA VT
1st Downs 15 28
3rd efficiency 3-15 4-13
4th efficiency 0-2 0-0
Total Yards 365 523
Passing 323 272
Comp-Att 23-38 22-34
Yards per pass 8.5 8.0
Interceptions thrown 1 0
Rushing 42 251
Rushing Attempts 29 44
Yards per rush 1.4 5.7
Penalties 6-62 2-25
Turnovers 1 0
Fumbles lost 0 0
Interceptions thrown 1 0
Possession 29:28 30:32

Adding to Miami's injuries (noted above and mostly on their D), starting CB Sheldon Redwine (not listed on injury report) did not make the trip due to injury. As noted above, FS Rayshawn Jenkins went down with an injury during the game.

Miami's Rushing D gives up 211 yds per game (against P5 opponents) after giving up 292 yds against Virginia Tech (5.7 yds/carry). Their defense did have 8 TFLs and 3 sacks against the Hokies.

Offensively, (against P5 opponents (4)), Miami's Rushing Offense now averages 89 yds per game (102nd), 2.98 yds per carry (99th). Their RZ TD conversion rate is 36% (102nd nationally). They gave up 8 sacks against Va Tech. Their Time of Possession (v. P5 teams) is 24.54 mins/gm. (111th nationally)

From Miami Hurricanes’ postscripts, thoughts, reaction after 37-16 loss (Miami Herald):
Depleted by injury, UM (1-3 in the ACC) played its worst defensive game of the season, blitzed for 523 yards, including 251 on the ground (53 carries, 5.7 per carry) and 272 through the air. The tackling was poor, uncharacteristic of this team but reminiscent of the problems we witnessed for years under previous defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio.

More disconcerting was Virginia Tech’s sack parade – eight – and there was plenty of blame to go around.

Guard Danny Isidora, UM’s best offensive lineman, was beaten for two of them. Trevor Darling, the beleaguered left tackle, was whipped for at least one. On two sacks, running back Mark Walton failed to step up in pass protection.

Right tackle Tyree St. Louis had two foolish false start penalties and allowed a sack. Center Nick Linder had a holding penalty. And guard Kc McDermott – who should be much better than this -- also was beaten in pass protection, irritating coaches to the point that he was replaced by Alex Gall in the second quarter.

From The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: Virginia Tech Edition (State of the U):
Offensive line gave up 8 sacks (VT had one late to up their total). That DOUBLES themost he’s ever been sacked in a game. Yeah, some of them were on Brad running into them, but the vast majority? OL just got whipped. Over and over. This sucks. SUCKS!

Yikes.

At this point it doesn't matter what troubles ND's opponents are having. Each opponent seemed to have a weakness(s) that we pointed out and the outcome was still dismal.

I'll take this as a blip of optimism but ND needs to take advantage of those circumstances.

So then, Miami will surrender 0 sacks and will rush for 200+ after laying an egg in both regards against VT.

Our team is getting some rest and hopefully some good practices in. I think this bye weak came at the right time.

We just need to find a way to get this Hurricanes fan to the game, I think she might be good luck.

2 weeks in a row, ESPN's cameras found the same sad Miami Hurricanes fan - SBNation.com

I almost fell out of my chair when DK went under center in the first half against Stanford, but if there was ever a time to go under center and run the ball (except in hurricanes) this would be it.

Today's Sagarin Predictor makes ND a 3 point dog to Miami

(ND 76.18 + 2.42 HFA = 78.60) - (Miami 81.70) = Miami -3.10

I hope we end up a 7 point dog at home, completely crapped on by Vegas. Maybe the guys will show up with an extra edge.

Hey, look who it is, our old Miami friend from the 2012 game! We were going to get beaten down by "Da U" in that one....whew, we really dodged a bullet.

He's much more reserved these days, although he was predicting that Miami was going to win their division and play for the ACC championship at the start of the season. Maybe not so much now. Unfortunately it looks like he took down the old videos from previous seasons where he talks shit (He did it before Nebraska smacked them around a few years ago too)

I haven't watched Miami play all but 3 plays this year vs VT. However, it's going to be tough to get up for this game as a fan. Urgh, this year has been a dread for football.

With ND and Sparty down I thankfully have my HS team and the fricken Lions at least.

If our offense continues the two-game skid, we'll get boat raced. Our defense has stepped up but I'm still not sure if it's opponent or improvement.

This week should tell us a lot.
