There will be a frustrating big pass play or two when guys get drawn up by the run game. I’ve seen Army 3 times this year, incredibly boring to watch. Seems they’re doing same as Navy, running triple option out of shotgun. Awful to sit through. Should win by 3 touchdowns.
Can live with that as long as our defense generally gets them off the field and our offense takes care of business.
When we did against Ga. Tech, their one big pass play didn't matter.
When we failed to against NIU, their one big pass play was the difference in the game.

Navy has a pretty bad defense I believe. Statistically, Army is much better in both sides. I know the QB is pretty good, but this is one we should physically overmatch them. They don’t have a Cross, Love, Bowen, Watts, etc. out there.

ND 37
Navy 17

is it weird that these triple option offenses scare me more than other offenses with Golden? Seems like time with NFL helped him with so many schemes...except these

We're going to roll again. Navy will score on their first drive, then Golden will shut them down. 35-14 ish again.

Why does it feel like every week ND is disrespected, including by their own fans? And every week they beat the spread.

Don’t think a decent segment of ND fans will move on from NIU until they go 11-1. 5-2 ATS though, and I’d take them again this week. The last two weeks have been perfect warm up for what Navy does.

Teamrankings.com Strength of Schedule (134 teams listed) thru this past weekend games ...

Irish #20
Navy #113
Army #121

Navy and Army are putting up some big scores, but they're NOT actually playing top level teams! I'm glad that they are both undefeated and ranked in top 25 in order to keep the "team focus" in line.

NIU is ranked #83 FWIW!

IDK, but unless ND comes in like walking zombies and having fumble fingers, I can't see Navy holding down the Irish offense. The NIU game comes up a lot on how inept ND played offensively that game in particular (which I agree), but keeping it in perspective here are some Defensive Team stat comparisons to consider ...

Rushing D: Passing D:
NIU #13 NIU #8
ND #30 ND #12
Navy #95 Navy #82

And keeping the SOS in mind:
ND #20
NIU #83
Navy #113

Navy is 93rd in total defense.

ND is tied for 64th in total offense with Colorado, of all teams. Go figure.

It's interesting. With the way they shorten games/possessions, you'd expect their defense to "appear" better. So it may be even worse than that.

The SOS thing is funny because you still get the ESPNs of the world talking about how absolutely horrendous the SOS is for us... they even talked about it multiple times during the game. I get it's a lighter-than-average ND schedule but the way it's discussed you'd think our schedule was in the 100s.

Cool, I'll keep waiting on that then. In the meantime, I'll enjoy watching them win.

No need to get bitchy. You asked a question and I gave you a sound answer. We've play 7 games so far. We lost one. Oddly enough, the one game we lost was to a team that statistically has the best "rushing defense" to date. That's why people are skeptical to Notre Dame and it's warranted. That's all it takes (a good rushing defense) and then we're in dogfight with the opponent.

Even though I only mentioned a "stout rushing defense," I'll provide stats for both rushing defense and total defense.

Rushing Defense Total Defense
Texas A&M #36 #31
NIU #13 #3
Purdue #125 #123
Miami (OH) #85 #68
Louisville #55 #72
Stanford #46 #98
Georgia Tech #27 #42

Hey man, you've been missed on this board. A bunch of guys have been asking their wives permission for video games etc since you've been gone. Glad to see you back!

I liked the confidence Freeman had in his voice when the reporter asked about the youth at linebacker. He said you have to read and then use your god given ability to make the play and they will.

That group gives me confidence.

Really?
Hadn’t heard.
Next you are going to tell me that:
A) Beating GT gives ND a 63% chance of making the CFP.
B) Losing lowers it to 20%.
C) ND is NOT in a Conference.
Arguing with the wrong person. Just pointing out the obvious. I'm the guy that generally posts meaningless shit and the word "neat" a lot.

Navy's offense has put up a ton of points....

But they played Bucknell, Temple, Charlotte, UAB, Memphis, and Air Force.

Their QB is good, and their offense is tricky. It is no longer a traditional triple option out of the wing T or flex. They have a lot of looks and can legitimately throw the ball sometimes....

But the 11 starters on ND will be the best 11 defensive players they have faced this year. It is going to be a massive step up for them.

I'm sure they will be ready, because it is Navy-ND. But I am still taking ND to cover.

There's a segment that won't move on from NIU until they are living in a cemetery.

This defense is far better than any ND D Navy has seen in the past and Golden knows how to scheme them.

I wouldn't touch the spread personally. I know Navy hasn't played anybody, but this isn't the Navy teams of old. They haven't had much in the way of quality opponents but they won't be shy of the fight that's coming on Saturday. I'm expecting a close game.
