Not being able to run the ball != not being able to run the ball against eight in the box. The plans Air Force et al have played against Notre Dame (constantly loading the box) should tell you two things. 1) Notre Dame's running game is stronger than you might think, and/or 2) lack of faith in Tommy Rees. Air Force loaded the box and Tommy made them pay again and again. And again. And again. And technically, again once more.

This shouldn't even be up for discussion, your opinion is still rather ignorant. If you would have said "Notre Dame won't be able to run the ball because they will load the box" you'd be onto something. But you didn't, you compared retarded rankings and compared them nationally, like I'd expect an NFL fan to do.

P.S. if I remember correctly, and I'll have to rewatch to confirm, the two drives where Air Force played with two safeties back and didn't put so many defenders in the box Cam McDaniel and Folston gashed them for like 8ypc.

Excuses (I saw that coming too)......I was told, by numerous people, that we'd have no problem rushing for 250 yards against AFA. Nobody threw in the "except if they have 8 in the box" on the end of that. It was a forgone conclusion from IE that 250 yards was in the bank.

Reggie Brooks level. I've seen Taylor commentate and do studio and he is always terrible. Covering MWC games though would make you lose interest pretty quick

I just watched the replay of the terrible incomplete pass call that took away Jaylon's fumble return for a TD.

The only ref that was signaling incomplete was the line judge on the far side of the field that was completely shielded from the play by most of the linemen. I have no clue what this guy was thinking blowing the play dead when he couldn't even see the play.

Conor Hanratty comes in for Watt and nobody said a goddamn word. There were multiple times he had no clue the down and distance. Makes you appreciate Tom Hammond, LOL.

Not sure if anyone caught it or not, but BK was really pissed at Cam, I think it was in the 3rd quarter. They showed Kelly after a run and you could read his lips screaming for Cam to come to the sideline after one carry. If memory serves, he didn't see the massive hole and missed out on 5 to 10 yards. I was hoping the USC game, with the two long runs coming from nice vision and cuts would have carried over to AFA. Looks like it didn't. However, with Folston, his ability to see the holes and cut and make the first guy miss is unmatched at this point.

And also, the terrible angles they were using often missed the action of the play because they didn't switch back to a "normal" angle fast enough.

I can't believe ND would allow this outrage to occur when they own their own network!

especially when they would show an advertisement, line up etc it made it like picture in picture but as you said they were sooooo slow to turn back you missed several plays...plus i hated the audio...i really felt like i was watching some late night friday game from the mountain west...that was the vibe...even w/ our td's it seemed soooo lame

Just now getting a chance to watch the game....no reason GA III should be in the two-deep at RB at this point. Hell, even TJ hits the hole harder than he does on his lone carry.

Cutting the defense some slack for the first quarter (just because I know they clamped down the rest of the game).

But I agree, nothing will change with him. It was never a good position for him. I'm not giving up on Amir just yet, but I'd say Cam and Folston should be getting 70% of the carries.

I would like to see what he could do with some of the carries GAIII gets. I bet he would be a bit more successful; he's got the natural RB "wiggle" that GAIII lacks, and more than enough speed to make a difference on the outside/stretch carries once he gets to the edge.

That, and he's seems to pumped up to make a play that he just goes 100% speed forward. There's nothing wrong with that if you hit the hole and it's blocked like it's supposed to be, but that's rarely the case. You see Folston go through at 80%, make the cut and then churn out yards.

They need to get Amir on the outside, maybe use that quick pitch they did like the first play of the year.

Cam's been my #1 since game 1, but I wouldn't be surprised if by season's end everyone's on board with Folston being our #1 between the tackles. He's the total package.

That's the issue with GAIII though; getting him into space hasn't been the problem at all. His inability to make defenders miss when he has them one-on-one in the open field is the issue. He isn't showing the power to run through their tackles and he doesn't have the necessary "wiggle" to juke them out.

I would like to see Amir get the playcalls that the staff usually reserves for GAIII.

EDIT: And I'm not trying to bash GAIII. He is more than serviceable at RB. He just isn't as consistent as he should be considering his freakish size/speed combo.

Take a look back to when GAIII first started at kick return. He exploded into the open lanes...which is why he had some great returns (and some he took to the house). Fast forward, and now you see a kid who gets stood up by an AF opponent, half his size. Ask Danny Spond how it felt to try and tackle Eddie Lacey last year. THAT's the kind of running style this staff needs. If GAIII won't do it, then someone else will. You could make a case, like others have above, that a package with certain guys (GA/Amir) run certain plays (and preferably with a mobile QB).

To sum up, I support GAIII...but only if/when he runs with power and confidence. If he goes back to that upright running style and looks afraid to hit someone (or be hit), then he's better off on the bench. Just my opinion.

Really? You don't think there's a place for either of them as a Riddick-style hybrid (maybe a little more towards the slot reciever side than TR was though)??

I think that Carlisle is ideally suited to be motioned back into an empty backfield out of a 5-wide set, like we did with Theo last year. That exact play that we saw so often has mysteriously disappeared, which I don't understand. Spread them out and you immediately put Carlisle into space, where he's extremely dangerous. And even if you run him up the middle out of that formation, he's got much better numbers in the box and many fewer guys to beat to get to daylight. AND it breaks tendencies, which we need desperately.
