Is Florida state's run defense any good? The game day crew seems to think ND won't be able to run at all tonight.
I had a few conversations with others lately that inspired some "creative" thinking on my part.
Go back in time to when rumors were swirling that Bob Diaco might take a head coaching job. Brian, looking to simplify his job asks himself who he can call to take over, and move the program ahead in an even more sympathetic cooperative manner.
The same person keeps coming up BVG. But will he jump back to the college game? Well his youngster Montgomery, is going to enter college in the fall. And BVG has been filling a placeholder position with the Jets since his unfortunate experience with the Tigers . . .
BK puts together a package with the best pay of any assistant coach and lines things up for BVG to consider. In putting together his pitch BK has all his "i's" dotted and his "t's" crossed! And philosophically, BK has all his points rehearsed, and polished.
He gets VanG on the line as says, "Brian, how would you like to come here to South Bend and run the defensive side of the ball?"
BVG replies with a few questions of his own, and they chat for a while. Then they get down to serious business. That was the day Brian Kelly and Brian VanGorder outlined the plan, and agreed on its execution, the plan to beat Jameis Winston and FSU!
Think about it. Human nature. This staff. I bet it was one of the first conversations they ever had!
The plan to beat FSU and Jameis Winston is simple: you shut down their inside running game by starting Joe Greene, Reggie White, Alan Page, and Deacon Jones on the Defensive Line. You contain their outside running game by starting James Harrison and Lawrence Taylor at Outside Linebacker. Then I use my MLB, Dick Butkus, to spy Jameis Winston. I take away their wideouts by playing man coverage with my CBs; Deion Sanders and Rod Woodson. That leaves my safeties, Ronnie Lott and Troy Polamalu, to just roam the field and maybe cover the TE.
The point being... I am sure that the first conversations all revolved around the talent AT Notre Dame, before any discussion of game planning for specific opponents started.

I can't believe you'd leave Warren Sap on the bench. SMDH.
Imagine that everyone on gameday picked FSU. I can't wait to shut them all up tonight!
I know CW's name is taboo around here, but one of my favorite memories of his early years was the 2005 game at Michigan when we opened no-huddle and went 5-wide every play with a scripted drive. Would love to see that to open the game.
I really want to see a lot of C Rob tonight. He is such a mismatch.
FLDomer and I are at the bar and met Golson's high school coaches. We also saw Kyle McCarthy
I rather see what ND did to FSU in '02 in Doak Campbell when that schematic genius Ty Willingham had Holiday hit Battle out of the gate for a long TD turning the Warchant into a Whisper.
ND never trailed in the game.

No one in the media does anything to dispel these narratives... instead they just perpetuate them.
I will disappointed if BVG does not have our defense flying out of the gate
Might have some good luck today. I am supposed to go to a wedding tonight, but my wife is stuck at work on overtime and may not get off in time to make it. Not a really close friend, but someone she knows from high school. Anyway, might be a bit of good luck if I get to see the game.
I wept for only a bit, but found a way to pull myself together. You are probably crushed that you might be missing the wedding!
