Oh Jesus get over it. Why don't you say the same thing to every poster that predicts that we win?
I don't care if people think we're going to lose, hell I'm not sure we'll win. It's just annoying to see to see about 1/3 or so of our fanbase assume the fetal position as soon as we play someone more talented than Rice. The bedwetting on this forum is unreal at times, people just talk about Stanford/FSU/ASU(!) like they're these demigods . "We won't be able to score on FSU because they're so mighty and powerful and we won't be able to stop them because their offense has descended from Mt. Olympus."

We talk up these teams like they'll just be able to do whatever they want to us without giving a single iota of credit or thought to what ND might be able to do. FSU struggling this year is a mirage that will suddenly be cured just by playing ND whereas any sign of struggle from us means that we're undefeated via smoke and mirrors and we'll get exposed. My god our fanbase whines incessantly about "disrespect" from ESPN and the media and then we faint at the sight of any highly ranked opponent. We can't have it both ways.

I've never seen Dodger complain about being disrespected by ESPN, so its pretty unfair to attribute a group's victim-mentality to one poster. And I think his opinion is extremely valuable as an opposing view against the "we beat Michigan by 31, NCG here we come" crowd that permeates this site. Besides that, even if that is what you wanted to call him on you did a terrible job of it. You essentially just said that if had an opinion that he shouldn't even bother watching the game. No, he just has an opinion on how the game will go, and he put it out there very respectfully in an intelligently written, non-trollbait post. If you think we're going to win, then you might as well not watch the game either.

Well shit the sunshine pumpers are a necessary balance on this site to balance out "oh my god we only beat Purdue/Syracuse by 16...we might not win another game this season" that permeates almost the entire fanbase. Just assuming we're going to get blown out because FSU is ranked highly is disrespectful to the players and to the progress that BK has made in 5 years. We just assume that all these other teams will be able to do whatever they want on on offense and defense and we'll be lucky to stop them once or twice and maybe get a field goal or two.

Yeah we got blown out by Alabama but guess what, no team in the country was beating that Alabama team in the NCG. They were way too good after coming off of 5 weeks to prep. FSU 2014 is not Alabama 2012.

Well I imagine you won't be watching since you already know the outcome.

Actually I watch every game...even the blowouts...to the bitter end. I just try to make my pick w/o emotion. You obviously do not. That's cool. If I'm wrong (which I'd love to be), I'll gladly acknowledge such after the fact. You must not have been a big Lou Holtz fan since he basically talked up every opponent we ever faced from Rice to Navy to Rutgers like they were the 2nd coming of the '85 Bears. I'll never be a fan who blindly picks Notre Dame to win or even compete against every single opponent...that's Dr. Lou's job. That being said, I can assure you the fetal position isn't an option either. Look at it this way, if you were a gambler w/ no emotional attachment; do you put your money on FSU to cover or ND to cover? I think FSU covers easily. But I'll be rooting like hell for ND & if it is 28-0 at half, guess what? I'll still be there to watch the 2nd half and I won't even be close to the fetal position. How about you?

I'm not involved in this debate, but I'll definitely be depressed and getting as drunk as possible in the fetal position if we're down 28-0 at half.

I honestly don't know which way I would bet. We're 4-2 ATS and FSU is 1-5. But that kind of gets thrown out the window I think in a game like this. The spread was 13.5 before it got pulled? In Kelly's last 32 games, we have only lost by 14+ on two occasions.

I like to think that this program is beyond the point of folding after getting punched in the mouth. We put up 365 yards against Stanford (who hasn't allowed more than 291 all year) in a monsoon. I think we'll be able to move the ball fine, and it will really just come down to turnovers. I know it was a while ago, but Golson had 0 turnovers in 4 road games in 2012. If he plays a clean game, there is no way we are losing by two scores.

I have struggled with this one. My mindset has always been as follows - no matter who we play, we aren't good enough to win unless we play clean. Yes, that is the Charlie Weiss Effect. Looking at this one -

I think EG plays to his emotions and competition. He has a tendency to relax when the pressure is "off". I think we saw that in the Syracuse game early, the UNC game early, and the beginning of the Purdue game. That being said, kid has been money when it counted. I think he realized the enormity of this one and will play to that level.

On D, they have issues at offensive line, we have a strength of stopping the run. That leaves a very efficient passing game to contend with. They have a shit ton of weapons, and a tight end that will test our LB corps. That being said, if we can force third and long (like we did against Stanford), that changes the dynamic of their play calls.

Offensively, we have to create in space, try to establish a running game, and play clean. Systematic drives will be key.

In the end, if this match-up was at home, I would really like our chances. I don't think we win, but I don't think we get run out of the stadium either. If this was the '13 version of FSU that blew everyone out, then I would be more prone to think that would happen. But, we if we get it to the 4th, I like our resolve in pressure situations.

I agree with this. Like I said above I don't think this team is going to get blown out because we have too many athletes to get embarrassed by this Florida State team. (Although I would be lying if I said the fear of a Clemson/Florida State game last year hadn't crossed my mind.) I think we'll likely come up short because we're just so so so young, but I wouldn't at all be surprised if it came down to a final drive.

Having watched us closely and FSU passively I think our team is better than 2012 and FSU is nowhere close to that Bama team (who has in the last decade for that matter).

Offensively we are dramatically improved. Defensively we are probably not as good but definitely more dynamic and a great fit for the style of offense now being played.

For FSU, they are kind of crappy on defense. Mediocre is more like it. Offensively, they are pretty good but very much untested at this point and rarely forced to be one dimensional.

I think we put up at least 30 points for our 6th game and the 3rd time FSU gives up that many. If it is a shootout, I give them a slight advantage. If defense is actually played, I give us the edge. Being that I think our defense last week was an anomaly, I think we hold the FSU offense under 30 for a win.

Is Darby expected to play? I saw that he needed to be helped off the field against Syracuse. Also, the announcers were saying that he's had health issues over the last year.

We bring our A game, we win. We bring our B game we still have a shot at winning as long as we don't completely screw ourselves with some bad (time and location) turnovers, probably lose by 3-7. Play like last week and we will need Winston to turn it over four times to have a chance.

No, I believe that FSU has the more talented & more experienced roster right now. ND has been decimated on defense by injuries & suspensions. It's a very young squad that has yet to face an elite offense. We just have different opinions.

As far as the Bama game comparison, please recall that I was not comparing the two rosters (you're right, that was a semi-pro team). I was comparing the outcome and the blowback that ND got for being a fraud. I think we'll hear the same thing for the following week after the FSU game. The thing is even most ND fans didn't predict a 6-0 record going into this game. This team should be special next season if everything plays out (no more suspensions or career ending injuries). In my mind, we're playing w/ house money. In the media's (& the uninformed haters') mind, it's another overhyped ND team that lacks "SEC speed" to truly compete. NOTE: I'm not saying that...but that will be the narrative next week...bank on it.

The world does not rise and set on the SEC mentality.

ND is not decimated anywhere.

Semi-pro is what someone says when they don't want to get laughed at for the usual mindset that any of those teams could play an NFL schedule and not get pulverized. The fact is that the SEC schools have gotten to a point where they can cheat as well as anyone, and put together the best college teams money can buy. But that doesn't speak to their overall ability beyond the college level. Most semi-pro teams I have seen are not as good as the local college team.

Which just points out the silliness of deifying the SEC contenders.

And don't get started on the game two years ago. Please.

Kelly strongly thinks we match up better on both sides of the ball, than we did against North Carolina.

And that is pretty close to my position. I don't blindly predict ND wins all the time I just hate the "we're going to get killed" mindset before the game even starts just because a team is ranked. I think this game is a toss up and either side could win but I think it will be close.

I would take ND gambling 7 days a week and twice on Saturday at -10.5. Hell yeah no doubt. That doesn't mean that I think we're 100% to win but I'm not spotting FSU almost 11 points.

I 'm one of the most pessimistic people when it comes to ND winning (I predicted UNC game to be 35-32 final and Purdue to be close) and I think we win by 10-14 points. Don’t know why but there it is…
