Pitt generally plays us pretty tough.

Everyone plays ND tough. Especially when they are ranked/winning. After all, who doesn't get amped to beat a team most college football fans hate, as they have the NBC contract on national tv, and the whole lack of conference bs. It's annoying as hell as an ND fan, but we never "sneak up" on anyone.

This game doesn't scare me...... And that scares me.

Was really surprised they beat cuse yesterday though

Syracuse should have been undefeated going into that matchup. They had the ND-FSU syndrome going after we should have won in 14'

I don’t think we’ll struggle in this game, but I think it’s not quite true that the blue bloods don’t seem to struggle ever with teams they should easily beat. Look at Clemson/Syracuse or last year with OSU getting creamed by a pretty average Iowa team. There are other examples, even the all powerful Bama has struggled (not as much as other teams admittedly) when they are expected to dominate. The best you can hope for with 18-23 yr olds is that they stay focused and take nobody lightly. If they do that, crazy things can happen.

For the record I believe this’ll be a pretty easy win. If forced to wager, I’d lay the points

It's not the play on the field that makes them hate us like it once was ….or the NBC contract...or even the lack of conference.

I think we cover the spread here. If we didn't have a bye the following week, I might be a bit more cautious. Get to them early and take control of the game and I think we see a lot less of Dexter, Boykin, Alize and perhaps even Book.

If we are gearing for a playoff run, we are going to need our players healthy and at their best. Coming off the bye and playing Navy is always a concern for injuries.

Both Pitt and Navy have given us fits in the past. Hopefully, we put up the big points, give our starters a much needed break and most importantly, get through these next two games with no injuries.

I sense the final 4 games on tap could be much more difficult (all winnable), but on any given Saturday.

Cheers and Go Irish!!

Obviously, this is my hope. And more than rest heading into the bye week, I really want all of our backups to get valuable PT. I wish we could go up big and put in Wimbush/PJ and the entire 2nd group on offense and defense.

A number of these guys will be called upon. Houston Griffith needs to continue getting exposure. Kevin Austin is due for a big game. Our backup OL need to get out there and mix it up.

My hope is that Tillery and Kareem dont play after the 1st quarter and that we suffer no more injuries.

First quarter? Holy cow. It'd have be 28-0 minimum and we'd have to be on offense in Pitt territory starting the second quarter

I don't think so. Maybe 1st quarter is optimistic, and somewhere in 2nd quarter is better. But if we're up 14-0 after 1 and it's looking easy, no reason to risk our 1st round DT or NFL DE who's playing with a bad ankle when we can win while giving others experience/reps.

I have never been of the belief that the game has to be in hand for the 2nd/3rd stringers to start playing. I firmly believe you sprinkle them in while the game is still being determined if you are confident you can pull away later. Those are the most meaningful reps.

Elston and Lea have been doing this with the DL, and a little bit with the secondary.

Micah Dew-Treadway was playing early and pretty often against Stanford, and Ade O. has been getting a lot of reps in all situations. I think Jayson A. has officially had the redshirt idea thrown out the window, as well, based on how he played in the second half against VT, and considering that they might be careful with Daelin for the next month.

Sprinkling them in is fine. Wholesale line shifts are another matter. Maybe it is a better idea to continually substitute while the game is still undecided and work your way to the entire 2nd team manning the field.

After 1st Q: put in 2-3 2nd teamers and add 1-2 more through the quarter. If your team takes a 3+ score lead. Add 3-4 more 2nd teamers in the 3rd and continue adding until you have your entire 2nd team playing competently.

I hope ND can secure a strong win and avoid injury. Then glide into the off week and get healed up for the back half of that schedule.

There are 4 teams that are capable of disrupting our season: NW, FSU, Syr, USC - two of those teams have plenty of talent and two of them are punching above their weight class.

Pitt does play us tough all the time. If this was a road game I would be more worried about Pitt, but I like that we're at home. Each week is a new test in the mental toughness of this team as each game presents it's own challenges (scUM how good are we? Stanford always tough, VT big challenge against ranked team on the road). If we roll Pitt, then we should feel really good about the mental aspect of this team.

Admittedly, I haven’t paid much attn to PITT thus far but my one impression is they lean on the run game. If so, maybe it’s perfect timing to rest Daelin and let Jamir Jones plug holes for the LB.

Never mind. I found the webpage on NDs website. Does anyone know when they release tickets from the visiting team during the week?

If you’re on twitter, I would suggest following @ndtix and turning their post notifications on. They are the first to announce fresh allotments dropping

If you just go by our numbers since Book came in I bet we're a lot higher on those offensive lists.

If Book and Dex both had full years, I'd bet we'd be top 25ish.
I thought the same while I was pulling the numbers. I almost went through the trouble of normalizing, but with Book drama, coach talk with the moms, stupid TV, and medication (beer for the Book drama) got in the away.
